MICHAEL HUNTER is waiting by the phone for the call to face Anthony Joshua and insists he can dethrone the WBA, IBF, IBO and WBO heavyweight king. The American believes he is the only fighter on Joshua's shortlist who is really ready to step up and face the British star. Unbeaten Anthony Joshua has been left without an opponent for his June 1 date with Jarrell Miller at Madison Square Garden in New York after Big Baby' failed THREE drug tests. At this moment all options for Hearn are poor. He should cancel his latest PPV . He is becoming ridiculous, no back up plan with a
fighter top of the bill and a drug cheating history......pure stupidity ,nativity .....but still trying the con! Save the greedy one for another day.
Well yea lol.
I mean I'll never be a guy that says someone has absolutely 0% chance to win a fight, but yea this will be like a 90/10, 95/5 Joshua fight. But yea unless Hunter has the greatest day of his life & Joshua has one of the worst days of his life on June 1 Joshua is gonna win.
If it is Hunter, or whoever it is, I hope they give a good account of themselves. It’s good for the division and will only help both fighters improve.
I'm with you on this. When I saw Hunter fight Usyk and make it a very competitive affair, I wondered if it said more about Usyk or Hunter. In the fights involving both men since then, it confirms that Hunter is legit. He has some impressive wins in impressive fashion and Usyk has dispatched his opposition.
I'm not saying Hunter would win but I think he's a much tougher out for alot of the top tier HWs than he's given credit for
I didn't watch Usyk vs Hunter till last year, when I already knew how good Usyk was.
With people that already booked airfare and expensive hotel, in very expensive NYC, parking that cost $100 for the whole day and $50 bridge tolls, no one to trying to hear the name of Micheal Hunter, this when Skipper has to step in and put a halt to it
Hunter is no easy touch for anybody.
When I watched the film of his fight with Usyk, saw him landing plenty of punches and keeping it close right up to the championship rounds, I put that down to Usyk being a slow starter and having an off night.
When I watched him dominate and KO the huge and highly touted Martin Bakole, I wrote Bakole off as a hype job, but then he rebounded with a stoppage win over Wach and looked as good, if not better, than Jarrell Miller against that same opponent.
So now I'm giving Hunter his due respect. A small, fast guy like him, with boxing skills, chin, stamina, and a lot of determination, could turn out to be a banana skin type opponent for AJ.

Hunter has looked good so far at both CW and HW, but this is too soon really. His best scalps at HW are; Ustinov who is huge but ancient, and Bakolie who although a regular sparring partner of Joshua is an inexperienced prospect. Fighting Hunter at this stage is low-reward for Joshua so ideally, he needs someone more tested at the weight. Bearing in mind the opponent needs to be at least USA based if not a genuine American - ideally a New Yorker, the order of preference should be; 1)Ortiz, 2)Kownacki, 3)Ruiz, 4)Bryan, 5)Hunter, 6)Pulev - who although decent is only on the list because he's signed to a US promoter so has some exposure over there.
I understand some of the above have turned down the fight already saying there's not enough time to prepare or they want more money, etc.
What are we building Hunter into exactly? He's bout to turn 31 & has two live opponent W's on his record & is a tiny HW in today's era with okay power who's unlikely to get far even if he can be built into something cuz he'll be fighting guys who got 20lbs-30lbs+ on him on a regular basis. His biggest claim to fame is maybe being the guy to give Usyk his 2nd biggest challenge by winning 3 rounds. Best thing that could happen for Hunter is he gets a Joshua fight & regardless if he sinks or swims his Q score just shot up drastically & he's got some name value off of an L worse case.
Matchroom doesn't work like most US promotions. They don't give a f#ck if you catch an L or two. They'll keep using you & putting you in fun &/or interesting fights. F#ck man Matchroom keeps David Price around still ffs. And hell yea keep him around he's fun to watch win or lose.
I tend to think its the fight that makes more sense since Ruiz does have that close fight with Parker in his only L that makes him a more viable guy to be getting a title shot. But lotsa mfers seem to be saying its Hunter & not Ruiz so idk.
Hunter as an american would only get bigger in terms of name, he already looks the part, and can speak well. So am expecting them to build him as a future opponent.
Everyone is doing it now, PBC/Showtime are doing it, Matchroom USA/DAZN are trying to do the same thing, Top rank/ESPN are trying to do the same thing.
Wilder already said he has enough opponents at PBC to freeze Whyte or anyone out for two years, and with the whole blocking of Ortiz from fighting Joshua that makes sense.
So what does DAZN do? Throw Hunter in now or build him for a later date. Give the fight over to Ruiz as a replacement and then they have more options down the line in Hunter, Usyk and others.
“They have to pick the right opponent and that is what I am. Some of these guys don’t want to fight. I’m a rising star, I work with Matchroom and DAZN, so I’m a better fit than the others anyways.”
That's what I'm talking about! MAN UP! That's how you do it! I hope he gets the call! Way better boxer than Miller! HW has been good to him b/c he's more athletic than most of the HW, and he has a better pedigree than Wilder! He just doesn't have a lot of power, but he's good! Definitely Top 15!
This is the exact reason i don't see him getting the Joshua fight. They want to build him as a future opponent just like they would build Usyk, Hunter more so because he is american.
I really do believe Andy Ruiz would get the fight, he sounds like he knows he has that fight in the bag, and he has already sign his part of the deal.
Very true:boxing:
I think Ortiz would love to fight AJ, he just can´t pass VADA on such short notice..
This is another reason why you have to respect fighters who will step up on short notice. It proves they have nothing to hide.
