It's fine to respect and miss past fighters. But a lot of people automatically pick past fighters over the newest generation of fighters today, which is extremely stupid and disturbing.
Reality is, boxing's just like any other sport, its athletes are constantly evolving and getting better. The fastest runner in the world 20 years ago won't even make the top 10 today. Training, nutrition, genetics, and coaching are constantly improving in every sport.
Prime Cotto is not beating Crawford or Spence. Prime Ali or Holmes is not beating Anthony Joshua, lol. A lot of Ali and Hagler "fans" have never even watched any of their fights in its entirety.
A LOT can change in the sport in just 10 years. The old timers have had their time. We need to embrace the future, appreciate and respect the NOW. Active fighters today like Crawford, Spence, Canelo, and Joshua are the best there has ever been.

Please tell me you think Canelo would beat Hagler.
The reason people glorify the fighters of the past is because the best fought the best, not so today. Today you have alot of fighters being built up by media and just trying to make the most money possible the least difficult way possible out of their made up hype. Not all of today's fighters are like that but a lot of them and there are good ones but its hard to tell who and how good they are.
Thanks for the laughs, clearly a youngster if u think Spence, Canelo and AJ are the best ever.
Another fool who ignores science, facts, and physics, and prefers to talk with nostalgia.

Dude, you are ignorant. You've completely lost your mind if you think AJ beats Ali. Protein shakes do not make you a superior fighter.
Lol stop it. You're a dumb ass who ignores simple sports science and physics and you call me ignorant?
Boxing in the 1960s was a primitive joke compared to today. Ali would lose badly to modern Cruiseweights like Usyk.
Giant Heavys today like Wilder, Fury and Joshua make Foreman and Frazier look tiny. Ali was great in his time, which was 50 years ago. He stands no chance today.
You are the exact kind of nostalgia based idiot that I’m referring to. Joshua has 2019 modern training, nutrition, and 40lbs of muscle over Ali. Ali would get tossed around like a little kid. No athlete from 50 years ago in any sport is gonna beat a top 10 athlete today. You ignore basic science and physics and call me ignorant, lmfao.

Comparatively, training and nutrition (especially) in boxing have not evolved to the degree as in other sports IMO. And disregarding Ali's skill set and mental toughness is no less questionable than a blind allegiance to "nostalgia."
You mean, athletes and their steroids today ?
Please. Pele' would still be as good as Ronaldo and Messi today.
Talk about the person, not the training or any of that sh8.
If Pele was 25 years old today, he wouldn't be as good as the top 10 soccer players today ? Please.
Duran in the 70's would still dominate the 135 today.
Jung Koo Chang would still go through the jr fly's today.
Ruben Olivares would still be knocking out bantams and feathers today.
I agree with everything except the Pelé comment. Watch video of that era in football and today's. It really has evolved. The speed of play and physicality is much higher. I mostly get bored when I see old Pele videos. That's not to say that there were not great players from the past who could still dominate, but Pele is not one. Maradona, on the other hand, had other-worldly skill and athleticism that would still shine in today's game.
Azumah and Sal would win belts at 126-130 today EASILY.
Duran would easily beat the snot out of Lopez at 135. Easily.
Duran would go through 135 today like he'd go through a buffet plate.
I love Loma but , Duran would really get dirty on him for 15 rounds and beat him.
Lord, Tommy Hearns would make these 147'rs today pee in their pants.
Michael Spinks would beat Kovalev and Ward.
Canelo would get dizzy with Hagler's movements and combinations .
One great point after another. I almost piss myself imagining a Duran v Lomachenko lightweight matchup though. God, what a treat to be able to see that fight. I love Duran, but I really do think Loma is a special fighter who will retire as a consensus ATG.

Im far from overrating spence but cotto was good at one thing and that was losing big fights. He was one of pacquiaos easiest fights, mayweather played with him, trout and ali boxed rings around him, canelo beat him easily, margarito made him quit, he arguably lost to clotttey aswell. He had one good win squeaking past mosley who wasnt exactly invincible himself but more often than not he lost badly at world class level.
Thanks for laying out Cotto's career. Now compare that to Spence's thus far...
You're talking smack about the old time greats while having a gif of fu.cking Kovalev posted in your sig. :dunno:
Fighters a good while back were in tremendous shape. Just to be a champion, for starters, you needed to have the endurance to go 15 rounds. Lots of those guys would be giddy to be fighting 10 and 12 round fights.

Pretty much.
Cotto is the most overrated fighter of his era.
I have and no way in hell does Joshua beat prime Ali or Holmes. My guess is that you know very little about either one. Both were far more skilled than Joshua and if you're using size as a reason that speaks for itself.
Claiming, Canelo,Spence,Crawford, as the best there has ever been is extremely ignorant.

Boxing has not evolved much.
Boxers today do not have to train for 15 round fights.
Gloves are larger, rings are bigger and the talent pool isn't like it used to be.
Boxing used to be the highest paying sport .
Not anymore.
In Mexico, drugs are taking away from the talent pool.
Paulie Malignaggi and Adrien Broner are former world champions. Broner has had 3 belts.
Both are marginally talented.
I'll take the greats of the 70's and 80's over the greats today.

How would cotto beat the **** out of spence when margarito made him quit? He had lots of other losses and poor performances too but let me guess he was 'past prime' lol
Margarito would have busted up Spence's head too with plaster fists. Spence's most notable win is over a fat lightweight. You are showing your age by being overly exuberant about a guy who hasn't actually proven anything yet. Long ago, when he was a lightweight, I thought that Shane Mosley could not ever be beaten. Seriously.
