Claressa Shields tossed one championship belt around her neck, fastened another around her waist and draped one more over a shoulder. She had about run out of room for all her titles. At least the ones she can use as accessories. Click Here To Read More]
You can't really blame the women for that silly rule. I guess someone thought that was a good idea back in the days. I'm sure they would love to fight 3 minutes round. Boxing need to change that rule as soon as possible.
Strange, it's the same thing in tennis. The guys can go to five sets, but the women only can go to three sets.
What IS the deal? Consider that the NYC Marathon, for example, is 26 miles for BOTH sexes. Nobody's saying a woman can't run the same distance as a man. In fact the finishing times for the best men and women aren't that far apart.
Shields IS big. Consider the MMA stars are not at 154. Cris Cyborg, Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes are all featherweights (144 pounds).
I was thinking maybe Holly Holm could come back over to the boxing side, and deal with Shields, but she'd be giving away ten pounds.
Shields against a male!
It's been almost 46 years ago that Bobby Riggs and Billy Jean King had their Battle of the Sexes. I'd pay PPV money to see Shields against a male boxer, wouldn't have to be a champion. How far down in weight should the male fighter be for it to be competitive?
I'd never heard of her before. Boxrec shows she is 5-0 but fighting against nobodies - makes no sense unless there's bad blood and hard to think how that could be the case. I suppose as long as you are still active even at 38 years old you have a target on your back just like people called out Hopkins when he was in his 40s
I think she beat Shields in the amateurs which is why she wants her.
1. Women's boxing has not evolved enough to even slightly compare with men's boxing. That's why it still looks armature-ish. 2. Women do not work just as hard as men. Why are they only fighting two minute rounds? Why are they still two minutes? After all, it's not like they are fighting males! Whenever a fighter get some momentum, the round is over. There would be more KOs if round didn't end any time a fighter gets in trouble. Also, TEN already short rounds for a CHAMPIONSHIP fight? Are you kidding me? A men's fight is almost twice as long! That's why it doesn't compare and doesn't warrant the same pay!
It's not about the work put in , it's generating the income to pay the girls.. would you invest your money in a business if it does not generateb a profit for you ?
Shields is just starting to scratch the surface of how good she can be under the tutelage of John David Jackson.
If Braekhus won't go to 154 then Claressa can just hold on to all the belts and make title defense after title defense. Don't see her losing any time soon.
Maybe she can achieve the women's equivalent of Joe Louis' record of 25 title defenses in one division.
I hope she will be making some good money as well...

It's not about how hard you work but if people are interested in your product. If nobody is interested they will never be paid close to what males are getting
That. Beat me to it:)
Shields is a magnificent talent!
She has speed, power, aggressive, tough and can box or bang!
Can’t see her losing to anyone from 168-154 no time soon, sad that the talent pool albeit better than its ever been but still not that good in women’s boxing!
Most of the best female fighters are in the much lower weights and Shields is in the divisions where the best are spread very thin!
I commend what she’s doing and trying to get people to watch women box more and she’s done great for herself without a big name promoter!
Congratulations to her on a great win and I look
Forward to see what’s next
... I like Claressa Shields as well... (but I don't think beating Hammer was a "great win"... the Russian is but an underwear model...)

I was puzzled myself til I found this:

Hopefully not only Shields but also all female boxers start making the type of money they deserve for the amount of work they put in. These females work no less than any of the males.
Good for Shields and for female's boxing that she managed to bring some attention to the game, she really deserves credit for that, and skillwise she's the best I've seen since Laila Ali probably even better.
If she trains just as hard as the men she should be able to fight men, then. Then she'll have equal pay.

Agreed but she is doing a great job of increasing interest with her trash talk
I can understand her wanting Breakhus but Cecilia is a career WW and 38 in few months. Shields is a natural SMW who is able to boil down cos she's still young. If Shields can make '54 though.. well, who knows? Be by far the best retirement package the First Lady will see (though I don't think she's struggling for money) and JMW Gabriels was able to drop Shields...
Savannah Marshall is big girl and was a solid amateur... green as grass in the pro ranks, but then with only 21 women registered at SMW... well, she's already fought a quarter of em.. :lol1:
