Why Spence didn't open up more is hard to say. Maybe he was just carrying Garcia out of respect. Maybe he just wasn't good enough. Maybe because Haymon didnt want either of them to get hurt/damaged because he has more money to make off them?

Nothing Spence and Garcia have done indicates that they're heading for the hall. You need a deep resume of good fighters or better and neither are even close to that. Josh Warrington is closer but you don't see us Brits making silly comments on that do you? No need to be having these talks when it isn't worthy to do so.

Neither Spence nor Mikey are HOF yet. Also, moving up and losing in a close hard fought contest is one thing but that is not at all what happened. The fight was a big disappointment Yeah, but is it any worst than the younger, bigger, stronger Canelo losing every round against the older Mayweather? That loss didn't seem Canelo as much as it's hurting Mikey.

My post was in response to the criticism of Spence for not knocking Garcia out. My point being that Spence gave Garcia no chance to win because HE never opened up on Garcia. Spence, as you noted, relied heavily on the jab which took away any chance Garcia might have had. Spence was technically better than Garcia had previously thought, I believe. its a shame that everyone turned on this legend. he moved up 2 classes and lost to a hall of famer. mikey will be a hall of famer too.He was already a 140 pound champion so he moved up only one weigh class not two. Yes he made 135 for Easter but he had outgrown 135 and I am sure he will never fight at 135 again. Spence only outweighed him a few pounds in the ring and he isn't that small. I expect to see him at 140 next fight and will be surprised if he ever fights at 135 again.

Then after a few rounds he fought like a complete pos. He fought like a cur just to go the 12 rounds. He just fought defensively and made no effort to win. That is why everybody turned on him. He deserved it. He may have been a legend going into the fight but he fought very poorly and not like a legend. He hurt his reputation and has no one to blame but himself. If he had fought hard everyone would still admire him even if he had been KOed.Good post!

I don't know. Mikey Garcia's resume has a lot to be desired. He avoided Gamboa and Lomachenko for a fight that he refused to win. He just showed up to collect an easy paycheck.

Garcia had no chance to win by opening up. No one who knows boxing even a little, thinks that would have worked or that Garcia would have used that plan going in. His only an was being better technically and obviously winning by points. Spence's jab ended that idea. Going the distance was a battle won for Garcia. True but Spence was winning nearly every round easily, it's on Garcia to take a chance and try to win. The fight wasn't as bad as Wlad/Ibragimov but it was similar, I think, in principle. Ibragimov waited the whole fight for Wlad to open up and give him some hope of landing a big counter. Wlad never did and neither did Spence. Garcia had no chance to win by opening up.
