How many times has he let the fight go on longer than it should have?
Pacquiao vs Margarito
Pacquiao vs Rios
Now you can add Spence vs Garcia to the list. He's the most selfish trainer in the history of the sport. It's obvious he wants the glory of being a great trainer in these big events but when your fighter is getting *****ed up, you need to recognize that and throw in the damn towel. Your fighter is never going to say that he doesn't want to continue so don't even bother asking him that question. It's your job to make that decision.
He's the reason why Margarito now has a glass eye, he's the reason why Rios is punch drunk and we will soon see how this fight will affect Mikey Garcia in the future.
Robert Garcia should be charged with negligence and should receive a permanent ban as a boxing trainer. The referee was also should've stopped the fight. What's worst is that he allowed his own brother to continue to receive unnecessary punishment. Disgraceful.
Wow, that's many, many DECADES ago and I have to admit, I am not qualified to speak on times or the mind frames of such individuals. I can ask someone's grandfather.
But the corner stopped the fight more so because Frazier was blind out if that eye and taking server punishment because of it. Not really the same circumstances
In today's age, mikey would be called a quitter. He has been called a quitter by critics and peers for stopping the salido fight.
You get called a quitter if yo quit.
Frazier wanted to continue to fight but Futch said no and quit for him. Ali told Dundee to cut his gloves off because he was done, Dundee told him no.
Ali won the fight but suffered for it, Frazier still had his brains intact.
Is Joe Frazier considered a quitter when his trainer stopped the fight against Ali?

My man, it has everything to do with mikey. It all falls on mikey. It would be mikey's reputation that takes the hit.

Again, nothing to with Mikey, the trainer's job is to protect his fighter and not damage his career by taking unnecessary punishment.

It would have been quiting. Just like mikey did with salido. Robert called that fight over a broken nose. There was not enough damage for him to throw in the towel. He was losing a fight he begged for. He had to ride it out

Spence dominated Mikey in points but I don't think it was a beatdown a la Pac-on-Margarito type and so there was no physical-damage and danger posed on Mikey to stop the fight. Mikey was totally outclassed though. He couldn't do anything against a southpaw and the only thing he does was initially block some punches and step-back - no attempts at all to counter in combinations or move laterally and so his timing is way off.
Credit due where it should be given - Spence's jabs were on point the whole night and pestering Mikey to a point where Mikey does not know how to counter him at all.
Mikey asked and begged for this fight so much that he personally went to Haymon’s office to show how serious he was of fighting and thinking he can beat Spence!
I think Schaefer mentioned that Haymon was doing everything he could to try and discourage Mikey from taking the fight but Garcia was supremely adamant to everyone’s surprise including Haymon who’s seen nearly everything in the sport!
This was Mikey’s fault, he’s supremely fortunate he’s earned Spence’s respect for even getting in the ring with him after Thurman and Porter ducked him and that Spence chosed to box him instead of mauling him!
If Spence started mauling him earlier than the 11th round, the ref would’ve stopped it before it even got to the 11th!
you guys are missing the point. mikey garcia was was down big on the card plus he was getting a beating. it was clear that he had no chance of winning the fight so why did robert let the fight continue? because he was hoping for that one punch ko. he wants to win a big fight so bad that he's willing to risk his own fighters careers. purely a selfish move.
his own brother! blood!
That is why you have your trainer in your corner.
Your job is to fight, Your trainer's job is to give your advice, motivate you and protect your health.
Robert did none.

Can you imagine the backlash had mikey QUIT after picking this fight? Mikey could Absolutely not QUIT

I don't think it was quite that bad last night, but it was dangerously close. Mikey wanted to continue; and although he was essentially getting beat up, it wasn’t a massacre or anything. In a perfect world, the fight would’ve been stopped; but I’ve seen so much worse. The other two you mentioned come to mind.
