He's one of those guys that is fun to watch when he's in with another elite guy. He's boring when he's fighting clearly lesser opposition because he doesn't have the power to put a lot of guys away, so it becomes a fight where Leo is throwing 100 punches a round and the other dude is completely lost
He's a nice guy and comes across well but is a largely uninteresting fighter these days. I think at 126 he's gotten more boring. I was very impressed seeing him up close when he beat Terrazas the night Mares got KO'd by Gonzalez. He looked like a terror that night.
The Frampton fights were good and meaningful but it just seems he's so insistent on endless meaningless tune-ups. He's too often tuning up for tune-ups and the fights and monotonous and uninteresting because the competition is so bad, he does the same things over and over and doesn't possess power at 126 and his style whilst skilled isn't pretty.
I hope he fights Russell next otherwise it may not be worth watching. I think that's an interesting fight and perhaps a 50/50.
I wouldn't call him boring, but he needs to be in there with opponents who can press him harder. Russell Jr., Rigo, etc. Not his fault since the top fighters in his division aren't in any big hurry to fight him or anyone else for that matter. I also feel that his humble nice guy image probably lends to the "boring" label, but he's a good fighter who throws a lot of punches, doesn't run, and doesn't clinch. He just doesn't have that one punch power or blazing speed that typically makes a fighter more fan-friendly.
Because of his style (quite repetitive, etc) when not in a tough fight (pretty much just Frampton 1 and 2 for me, although Mares 1 and 2 okay as well) he's so dull to watch.
I like him and his style. Not the best power but he does have more finishes than decisions. There can be some potentially real entertaining bouts with him when facing a certain fighter, I believe him vs Warrington for example should be a fun one, would it happen
Not a big fan of his, like some already pointed out he is quite boring and repetitive. He is lucky he is latino. If he was black he would be like Rigo.
first he use to shake his fist now he touches his belt line...that's the only thing i can remember because all the rounds start to run into each other.
He just needs a good dance partner, for instance when he fought Frampton when Frampton was still at the top of his game they were really exciting, the guy he fought over the weekend, not so much. He spent too long on the bench before that too, I don't like it when a guy who's supposed to be one of the top fighters in his division spends so long inactive unless he's got a good excuse. Hopefully he can get some good fights made quickly this time.
I enjoyed the last PBC show, watching the super tall lanky dude was funny, Fig Molina was a slugfest. Half way through the main event, I turned it off. Every round was basically the same thing, with Santa Cruz cruising to an easy decision, no drama.
I don't get how you could you have a gripe with lomachenko dude's second pro fight was against salido after that he's faced either a world title holder or former champ and has gone up in weight twice. he has had couple of fights against scrubs in between but even those are better than the scrubs santa cruz always fights.
I don't have a problem with Lomachenko's opposition or his style. But when he was on his stretch of fighting guys like Sosa, his fights got redundant and boring to me. Just him turning the guy over and over and hitting him at will but not putting them out.
He would be more exciting if he hit harder but I think he is fun to watch. To me grabbers who wrestle, clinch and maul like Ward, Broner, Berto and Horn are boring. Santa Cruz is always throwing punches and rarely holds. I like that.
Can Xu would whoop his ass and I think Valdez has a good chance too.
Frankly his cancer stricken father angle is getting old too. Nothing but the best for the father but they need to stop milking the story.
He's entertaining, but his bouts vs overmatched opposition can get redundant. I used to have the same gripe with Lomachenko.
