Who wins in this clash of titans, a current champion, and the HW GOAT, in a war of attrition, a war of fists, a bloody fight to near death?
H2H right now at this point in his career is unfair. Marciano shows Wilder what Wilder's trying to do done as perfectly as a human can do it and Deontay ends up kissing canvas. The boy is too green to compare. Like a pre-crouch Marciano. If he doesn't find new tricks he might even end up beaten by Fury.
It should be clear by my name and avatar I am a Marciano fan. I like Wilder, obviously, and I was happy to see him break Marciano's record because I felt like he was worthy. It's been a long time since we've see a sword and shield fighter like Marciano in the HW division. I don't mean that colloquially either, I mean to say Wilder isn't totally bull****ing when he says he's a gladiator in a gladiator's sport. He is, the other guy isn't, but Wilder is.
Of the two of them Marciano is way more ancient. You can see it in pretty much everything he does but I think most relatable is his crouch in the filmed fights. Just picture a shield in his left and a sword in his right as he crouches down. Cliche dragon slaying stance right? That's because he was trained to slay dragons.
They're drastically different body types so of course the same theories are applied differently. The only real difference is from time to time Wilder reckons himself a boxing and fights a bit like Wlad. Direct in and out jabbing just to control distance. Outside of that posture and baits are posture and baits, it doesn't matter what it looks like as long as it works.
Of the two Marciano already has some really crazy stats over Wilder. He absolutely dominated his era.
Wilder put a man into a seizure. That is shocking and terrible, but, cute when compared to Marciano knocking a man into a goddamn coma.
13 men retired directly after facing Marciano. 25 five fights or less.
Rocky's record power, 925ft-lbs, is more than enough power to seriously injure any man. He does carry death in his right.
Roland LaStarza was very popular because of his elbow and rope defense. Ali did not invent taking punches on the elbows and bouncing off ropes, he popularized it. Roland and his team would be the first HWs to make it central to their fight plan. Marciano broke his elbows for it.
Kid Mathews was on a 50+ win streak when he earn the title eliminator against Marciano. Imagine any HW with a 50+ win streak on Wilder's resume.
Whooped the former champion twice, the champion before him, the champion himself twice, the British champion, the European champion, and the LHW champion.
That's domination. No one else ever dominated boxing like Marciano dominated. He absolutely destroyed this sport and knows nothing about draws.
That said, Wilder is just getting into the big fights portion of his career. His KO% is ****ing amazing. Let's let the boy finish before we judge.
And, I don't subscribe to the superior modern HW nonsense, but, I do believe this is the first era of true world champions. I mean Ali said being champion meant he was the baddest man in the world and since china's in the world china too but there was no chinese HWs to contend with. Today the rankings and champions are more international than ever. When Wilder becomes undisputed I think it's fair to say he's the first real undisputed world champion. I don't think even Lennox can claim that.
So for as great as I think Marciano is I think he was a big fish in a small pond and I'd say the same is true for any of the greats from the past. Globalization is happening now. So maybe we give Wilder his due time to conquer the world and then we compare him to the most dominant champion the old ones ever saw.

its a reason i put it in my sig. but you aint privy to that info so you werent meant to understand
marciano was a certified BUM. great white hype & hope.
anybody who takes an OBJECTIVE look at his resume can CLEARLY see this.
not to mention marciano only had a '68 in reach.
**** i think middleweights couldve beat him i think Marvin Hagler would've beat marciano.
bum with NO HEAD MOVEMENT
PRIME Joe Louis would've KO'd him in the first 6 rounds
let me say it again. rocky marciano was a BUM
these clown ass biased ass fans criticize mayweather but put marciano on a pedestal when he had like the same resume as george groves technically but he had 50 fights.

Wilder is just too big. Easy KO win.
That said, if they both had the same height and reach, Marciano by annihilation. He was freakish animal in his time. Ridiculous power and was relentless.
Unlike many of these, this one is more interesting because we're dealing with a non-modern boxer. The Rock wouldn't come close to fighting at HW today. He routinely fought at 185 and would probably be fighting at 175 today - he was always in shape and I don't think he could cut to 168 with his muscle mass. He was 5'11" and a paltry 68" reach.
So frankly in the modern era I don't think there's even a fight to be made against Wilder. That's my real answer - this fight never happens.
----------
With that said, if they're in the ring together we have a revertible David and Goliath situation. Against a refined modern HW Rock would have problems even though he fights dirty and has a hammer for fists. They're just too big and he's going to have a tremendous problem getting into the body. But Wilder doesn't have great technique. Marciano is going to put his head down and bore in. If Wilder starts throwing wide Rock will kill him. But for all of Marciano's fame, he could be put on the canvas. If Wilder catches him coming in that's all she wrote. Who wins? Who knows.
But I wouldn't bet the winner. My money would be that it doesn't go the distance.
Marciano was an all time great. Wilder isn't even an all time good. Rocky threw 100 hard punches a round. Wilder barely averages 30 punches a round. Rocky knocks the sloppy wide open Wilder out early in my opinion.
Wilder wins.
It's possible for Marciano to be the 'greater' fighter - as in his time he was a beast - while at the same time losing to many modern HWs that never held a belt.
Nostalgia blinds many
I agree. I don't even think prime mike could hold a candle to these HWs.
