Remind me of Maidana-Mayweather, Lopez was content, happy just to have given Thurman a tough fight or at least some tough moments. There ain't nothing wrong with competing hard, every fighter should but moral victories seem to be applied only to certain fighters. There is a type of fan (like many on this site) that will give certain fighters a pass just for going the distance or having a few good rounds.
One fighter in particular I suspect only requires a moral victory to get a "pass" is Mikey Garcia. Just doing decent against Spence is good enough, he won't have to actually win to get credit, his "fans" are already prepared to transform it into a win regardless. If he wins 3 rounds they'll stretch it to six, if he lands a good shot they'll turn it into a near knockout. If I'm Spence I take no chances and knock Garcia out in two rounds, some of the judges are just like the fans on this site, they'll give Mikey rounds just for looking competitive.
I suggest Spence do what Floyd did to that kid in Japan...No moral victory for you son!
I think people are just making too much of a big deal about it all.
One fighter is coming off a two year layoff with injuries/surgeries and fought a solid enough B/C level fighter for his comeback fight, looked rusty and got shook up for a bit.
I bet most fighters would've taken a much easier fight after such a layoff and the surgeries.
It was competitive and Lopez had his moments but a clear win for Thurman.

18-1 underdog vs a undefeated world champion, almost knocked Thurman out in the 8th, went the distance.
