What was the deal with his first retirement in 2008? He was only 31 at the time and still well within his prime.
I read him saying he was looking "beyond money" in his decision at the time, which doesn't sound like Floyd at all. So was there a real reason?
You are a fool
The last time Floyd was an underdog was against Diego Corrales at 130. Diego was taller, with greater range, and a KO machine. Floyd was underdog in that fight.
For the remainder of Floyds career he would never be underdog again.
And that doesnt change the fact that floyd did say he wasnt trying to fight no welterweights and retired when Tony and Paul were waiting.
Everyone knows why Floyd retired. The whole my body was breaking down excuse was bs and I love how floyd fans can use medical excuses but anyone else does it they are full of crap.
Fact is the welterweight division Was hot and all those guys beat each other. When mayweather fans talk about his undefeated record it’s the only damn thing they cling too because his overall record after the hatton fight were carefully picked money fights. Who first talked about A side and B side Floyd did because unless he had full control over the situation he wouldn’t fight. Against maidana he complained about his gloves to get into maidanas head.. there was nothing wrong with the gloves but to Floyd he wanted him in grant pillows. With manny he wanted random blood testing but it had to be his own handpicked drug testing company usada that he pays way more then what vada asks for and vada actually catches cheaters. When manny agreed to everything floyd cried about 50/50 this was in 2012 and hbo has him on tape saying “50/50 you don’t want a fight then” he wanted to send manny 20 before and 20 after the fight with no ppv of course manny will say no to that bs.
But he’s tbe flashing his money his hoes his jets all you guys get pulled into that gloss but in reality pretty boy Floyd was a fighter money mayweather was an opportunist who knew how to work the system let all the other guys beat themselves up and we all bought into the gloss.
Now he’s fighting exhibitions against guys that are way smaller then him jeez.

Cotto, Margarito, Williams and Mosley.
Tough fights, Floyd had to fight one of them.
Retirement was a plan to duck all of them, let them fight each other and knock lumps out of each other and Floyd could comeback and beat the damaged one fighter instead of face 3 or 4 of them.
Also gave him a large window with zero testing to to run a few PED cycles and put on natural size.
Remember all through this retirement and the 2nd retirement when he ducked Pacquiao he was still in the gym every day training hard.
--- TUE 50-0 fought the lightweight leftovers of what manny knocked down 5x.
He never fought the BALCO Juan that manny fought 2x more.
Get over it, TUE is light in the loafers as he proved in his disasterous Japanese debut against a Banty!!!
another peon upset cause pac got knocked and arguably beaten several times by a guy floyd whitewashed lol
yes i was watching boxing back then.....because i was at quintana williams 2 which was the co headliner with vernon(RIP)vs mora
and floyd didnt stop for over 2 years...it was actually 3 months shy of 2 years...
when he did come back he fought a top p4p guy who would go on to knock out pac in the same weight class(after floyd whitewashed marquez the pac fans said it only happened because jmm couldnt effectively move up in weight...only to have their hero laid out cold by that marquez)....he then fought shane who had embarrassed the boogeyman margarito......he then fought cotto two fights at after that at a weight more comfortable for cotto at the time.....
again....you seem to think that if floyd had been active during that span he was out that he needed to fight cotto, shane, margarito and williams along with a couple others in order to justify his career....that was NEVER going to happen
again...thats like expecting spence to fight brook, porter, danny, khan, crawford and thurman within two years......you keep acting like its different but thats essentially what you are saying...he took a break....alot of fighters have taken breaks....and still come back to do amazing things
with floyd its always the guy he didnt fight.....hes the most criticized fighter since the invention of the internet.....people wanted things out of him they wouldnt dare ask out of their favorite current fighters
floyd let a few of them sort themselves out.....what if floyd said he wasnt burnt out and had inuries that were nagging and needed to heal? is that fair?
of course i dont think a fight with williams is easy....a guy like that is never really easy...it takes a world class performer to beat him...but thats what floyd has proven...its more likely than not that floyd figures him out.....if someone like quintana can than floyd likely can...yes quintana was ko'd in 1 but still over the 13 rounds they did fight he won more of them and outboxed williams for more rounds....

Curt,
No need to back anything up, he stopped boxing for over 2 years! that's what this discussion is about. But thanks for the correction 1st round TKO even better for my argument. Regardless of Williams style, yeah he fought dumb giving away his advantages in height & reach. But if it was that easy & reckless then why not fight him your make it seem like it's that easy, i disagree. If he sucks, then fight him! Curt, was you watching boxing back then? Cause I sure was. I was effing disappointed when Floyd left the game case closed...
i'm out gotta go to my second job...training fighters
Don't get me wrong Floyd is great he be whipping A$$!

dude...you cant keep going around just saying stuff like that without any evidence or logic to back it up.....you cant just keep issuing the same tired line without anything to back it up man
and p will avenged the quintana loss in the 1st round...not the 4th...i know cause i was there
the guy already told u the fight couldnt have materialized because floyd was trying to get an oscar rematch and p will moved u
furthermore as tough as williams was...he only trained to throw a bunch of punches...no defense..no real movement...he even gave away his height/reach advantage with his style......ive watched williams tape of him in the gym...he literally just trained to put punches together and have the stamina to keep throwing them....thats really all he trained for....he never watched tape on guy......a guy like that eventually would have been figured out by floyd once floyd figured out how to neutralize p wills length/height advantage.....once floyd did that it actually would have been a schooling....prob would have taken floyd 5-6 to figure out and been a whitewash by floyd the last 6 rounds

Son,
It's history now, you can't change history, He quit when the division was at it's best! He quit, get over it...I did.

--- Retired in 2007 saying he was becoming a billionaire and wouldn't work for HBO and Oscar slave wages offered for their rematch.
Comes crawling back to HBO and Oscar for Hatton and retires again. Returned for the preBALCO Juan so his purse could be siezed by the IRS to partially satisfy his tax lien and so onward thru his selfcreated billionaire fog...
What billionaires do today,
What about read though?

You're confused about that. He was on a radio show. And if he messed up, he had to start all over. On top of that, he's a fighter, not a reader.
You can't speak in front of thousands of people. You can't perform in an athletic even in front of thousands of people. You can't conduct interviews the way he can... Answer questions the way he can.
You can't do any of that. But it's fun to post links about people and change subjects.
Look at Shane Mosley speaking now. You'll understand what I'm saying.
Margarito had lil floyd shook. Mexican Volume punchers with rock solid chins that dont get tired are floyds kryptonite.
It is amazing to read some of the stuff like this people write about Margs from this period. They post as if he was a HOF level boxer yet he was just a Top Rank plodder whose best win during the era (when he wasn't cheating) is stalking Floyd at a press conference.
So when were they supposed to fight? PWill moved up in weight his next fight and Floyd was retired.
And no, they couldn't have fought before he retired because negotiations were already ongoing for the Hoya rematch and that would have been the next one for Floyd.
Son,
It's history now, you can't change history, He quit when the division was at it's best! He quit, get over it...I did.
My assumption is that Floyd thought he had enough money to be set for life, which was a dumb move considering how he would have had a stronger chance to win fighter of the decade if he was active from 2008-09, which coincidentally happened to be some of Pac's best years. And he would have missed out on some record paydays if he never came back at all.
I highly doubt he retired to duck anyone, even though that was my initial reaction to him retiring.
Why bring up PWill?
2007: Floyd beats De La Hoya
2 Months later: PWill beats Margarito (That's when he first becomes noteworthy)
Floyd's next fight: Ricky Hatton
2 months later: PWill's next fight? Loss to Carlos Quintana
which 4 months later he avenged by 4th round TKO!
Stopped reading there. You have no idea what you're talking about
....And you think you know what your talking about....
Bottom line is Floyd for as great as he is quit the game while the division was boiling hot with many optional opponents, challengers & other champions.
You try to diminish Paul Williams, and i think that's wrong, here is a brother that fought all on comers never ducked anyone & you have the nerve to say he wasn't that good? come on, you have to be good to get inthe ring against the likes of;
Sergio Martinez, Winky Wright, Margarito, Erislandy Lara, Cintron, Vernon Philips, . So what he lost to Quintana, he avenged that performance in a rematch with a 4th round tko!
