I have had much criticism of Mikey for calling out -- Cotto, Bud, Loma, etc etc - and fighting B level fighters. But this whole thread is dumb. Spence is a bigger test for Mikey than Loma, when you consider the size. I give credit where credit is due, and while Mikey's past 3 years were more noise than substance, his next fight is real.

OP, win or lose against Spence, do you feel like Loma should/would fight Mikey at 140lbs? Granted, the Linares fight showed us that 140lbs might be a tad too big for Loma especially against a skilled fighter. Stop it Lima’s showed he tops out at 135 and isn’t able to blitz through opponents like he can at lower weights Mikey proven he can bang at 135/140 , He would probably jump all over a Loma fight if it was presented If Arum actually wanted the fight which I doubt Mikey wouldn’t get a fair shake for Mikey to get Loma it’d have to be on ESPN ( Lomas network) it’ll be a TR card so the announcers will be favouring Loma distorting public opinion , Judges probably would sway towards Loma If the fight was presented I’m sure Mikey would take it you don’t duck the guy at 135 who’s shown he can’t go higher to fight the boogeyman at WW that no one wants to fight. I think it's plain clear that Mikey just doesn't want to do business with Bob Arum. Whether you call that a duck, I disagree, although it's still ridiculous to blame Lomachenko instead ("He needs to move from Top Rank, yatta yatta"). Mikey could have also fought Crawford, and I believe Crawford called him out, but he didn't. Yet he's willing to face Spence who he's probably going to lose to? It's clear cut he just doesn't want to deal with Bob Arum, even if Arum offers him a reasonable offer. I don't think it's reasonable to blame Mikey, who has his pride and remembers his layoff and probably hates Arum because of it. I also don't think it's reasonable to blame Lomachenko, who is loyal to Top Rank probably because they have treated him so well and given him many of the fights he desired (title shot 2nd and 3rd fight, Walters fight, Rigondeaux fight, Linares fight, etc.). I don't care what OP said. If Mikey loses to Loma the fight with Spence is gone. If Mikey loses to Spence the fight with Loma is still there. It's not any more complicated than that. Mikey is a prize fighter and he's fighting to maximine his prize. Unfortunately I don't see Mikey moving back down to 135 from 147, and I don't see Loma fighting above 135. Robert Garcia already said Mikey doesn't like putting in road work and prefers to just spar. The only hope as fans we have is that Loma agrees to a CW above 140.

An L from Spence is more acceptable. Makes Mikey appear courageous for taking a fight in the first place with the most avoided and probably best welter right now. Risking his health and his '0'. He earns a moral victory for even taking the fight. If he loses to Loma, his stock takes a greater hit even though Loma is an elite fighter but he is the smaller fighter and there is a good chance he could be humiliated. Loses to Spence today, shows heart in a brave losing effort, and earns a career high payday and exposure on PPV for the first time. This builds towards a Loma fight down the road.
