I don't get why these fights upset so many fans. Like why? It would be one thing if he was holding up a division hostage while taking on McGregor or Tenshin, but he's made it pretty clear he isn't interested in taking on any more legitimate fights. How does this bug people more than when he had the WBC/WBA 154 pound titles and defended them against NO ONE. Like he was fighting Maidana and the 154 pound titles were on the line. Getting upset at Floyd for that is perfectly reasonable.
All he's doing now is making easy money and clearly still drumming up a lot of interest from the casuals. This was a mega event in Japan and then obviously the McGregor fight was the 2nd biggest PPV event of all time.
cause hes the fighter who is the most famous boxer in recent years and youve got him fighting athletes who dont even compete in boxing. hes a laughing stock now if you read mainstream comments and unfortunately because hes synonymous with boxing as a whole, his antics reflect badly on boxing which has enough bad press as it is. his comedy fights just make the sport look like even more of a joke.
He's actually well received by the casuals and most mainstream media. People came away happy with the McGregor fight. Casuals loved it and you had sports shows the next morning calling Floyd the greatest ever for beating Conor f'n McGregor.
Ironically, the most vocal people against him here are……boxing fans. He's not ruining the sport any more than Ali during his exhibitions or any other fighter. Stop taking the events so serious and you yourself will take these fights for what they are.
Ffs you got actual MMA greats tweeting this:
Mayweather = 🐐— Demetrious Johnson (@MightyMouse) December 31, 2018
LOL, joke fight that's all this was.
There’s no passing of the torch now. Not one single NBA player is bragging about outplaying Washington Wizards, Michael Jordan. They’d get ridiculed for doing it and rightfully so. Beating a 41 year Floyd at this point would give his doubters/haters something to cheer about, but it wouldn’t put a dent on his legacy the same way his fights against Berto, Connor, etc don’t do **** for his legacy.
I think for a lot of fans, it hurts to see Mayweather fighting non-boxers, when many would have been hoping for Mayweather to have one last top opponent to pass the torch to.
It doesn't help boxing to have the profile of McGregor/UFC or Tenshin/Rizin raised, when the likes of Spence, Crawford and Thurman are relatively anonymous.
Imagine how worse off the sport would be if De La Hoya hadn't fought Mayweather and Pacquiao.
The passing of the torch fight was against, Canelo. Canelo had a chance to capitalized on it, but he fell short, but he still went on to became a big star in boxing, but still doesn’t have the aura of invincibility that he could’ve had if he had beaten Floyd back then.

He's done as a serious boxer, glad that he knows it. He's a big enough celebrity that he can cash in on his name and carry the mantel for boxing as well.
Frankly, if Pacquaio or GGG fight MMA guys in a couple years I'll be rooting for them to smoke them too. Would love to see GGG put McGregor to sleep boxing, or Pacquaio KO some young punk who talks **** about boxing.
People hate Floyd, they really want him to box again vs a serious contender because they know Floyd is a shadow of his former self and will get beat eventually.
That’s the main source of their bitterness.
Hes embarrassing the sport
Embarrassing the sport in what way? This was a damn exhibition in Japan. Who exactly is being embarrassed by this and why are they being embarrassed by this?
Floyd is still the biggest name in combat sports. and there's tons of idiots still waiting for him to lose. and trust me if Tenshin was to beat him these idiots would mark that as a loss on Floyd's official record even though this wasn't sanctioned. they are THAT thirsty to see Floyd defeated.
Because the negative publicity just goes on and on for the sport...

Last night in Tokyo, Floyd Mayweather fought 20-year-old kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in an altogether embarrassing sham “exhibition” boxing match which was announced in early November, then unannounced two days later, and finally un-unannounced after that, with a strange set of rules and no convincing reason why the fight was even happening in the first place. If this sounds like a whole bunch of stupid and suspicious bull****, well it was.
Here is the farcical first knockdown, in which Nasukawa flops around a bunch after getting hit by, uh, a jumping left hand that didn’t land clean. The right that Mayweather zips in there doesn’t connect, though it didn’t need to to get Nasukawa sprawling and gasping like a fish.

Here is Nasukawa, a man who has never been knocked out in his pro career, jerking his head around a bunch after getting hit with the fight-ending punch.
I’d make fun of anyone who paid for this crap, but RIZIN blocked it in North America, which probably tells you all you need to know about how seriously to take this fight.

People pay for these exhibitions and don’t buy fights with guys that NSB loves-namely non American power punchers. So their fans make threads hating on Floyd because they hate the fact he remains the face of the sport in the country that matters most in the sport.
Hes embarrassing the sport
When Joshua ducks wilder and ggg refuses to fight charlo that embarrasses the sport.
Getting millions of people to watch him fight mma and kickboxers in boxing matches doesn’t hurt anyone or anything.
Why did Joe Louis keep boxing ? Right needed the money so does Mayweather but health comes first so let’s fight MMA guys or Karate people who can’t box. Hey Mayweather I’ll box you or you can pick them from this forum we all need a payday
Floyd is now undefeated against
- World class pro boxers
- World class pro wrestlers
- World class pro MMA fighters
- World class pro kickboxers
Guy's only ever lost in four places: Casinos, Bitcoin, Amateur boxing and Dancing With The Stars.
You forgot his bookie
Thought I’d throw that in
Because it gets way more attention than the big match ups in boxing which I'm sure is very frustrating to promoters and fighters because they're unable to "Move The Needle" like Mayweather is still able to do despite being "RETIRED" :dunno:
It took a long time for him to build up his brand and he can do whatever the hell he wants with it at this point :dunno:
Haven't seen anyone talking about this fight.
Why don't you name them?
All I've seen is an NSB article about Berto criticizing Mayweather for the fight.
Berto is obviously bothered by it, but he's boxer.
Idiotic thread.
Haven't seen anyone talking about this fight? Are you f'n kidding me? Damn near the entire board was flooded about threads of this fight, especially right after it happened.

Floyd says he wants to fight an MMA guy and when he does they fight under boxing rules. Now you might say, "it's their fault and they made that decision". That still bothers people. The fight that I just saw with the Japanese fighter was down right pathetic.
