Is Roy up there in the pantheon of true Heavyweight champs or do you think his title there deserves to be put off to the side in its own corner?

calling RJJ a JMW/SWW is like calling Canelo a WW. RJJ only had about 4-5 fights at 154.
I'm trying to show a timeline of achievement here. Jones started at JMW and thats that. Not sure why anybody is trying to reshape that.
Canelo started at SLW and had about 10* fights at SLW and definitely had about 20 fights at WW. If he ever moved upo to HW I would say he fought from SLW to HW becuase that's what happened.
A bit disingenuous to call Roy a JMW. He was at LHW most of his career. MW title to HW title is a huge accomplishment, let's leave it at that and not stretch the truth.
Stretching the truth?
I'm not making shít up, go have a look at Boxrec, he's got plenty of fights at JMW. Make sure you're signed into Boxrec so you can see weights. Jones started there so it gets mentioned.
I mean in this day and age we're calling Canelo a three division champion based on winning the WBA reguar belt (not the "super" which is the real one) off of Fielding. So yes compared to the fighters of today Roys championhip definitely counts.
Isn't Broner considered a 4 division champ or something? Nuff said

I thought you were on here representing them...
No, I'm on here to explain why they do what they do. Most fans don't understand how the sanctioning bodies operate, how you move fighters through the ratings, how obsessed the networks are with the titles, etc.
Doesn't mean I'm pro-sanctioning body. I want them to all go out of business. At least in the US. I've been hoping for decades the US would eventually have a dominant league that had its own championship, ala UFC.
PBC is the best chance of that happening. I'll be thrilled if they get rid of the sanctioning bodies eventually.
Jones fought for and won the WBA title so to remove this accolade one would have to remove the prestige of the WBA title for everyone else. Thus, every HW that only held the WBA would not be considered a TRUE HW champ.
Doesn't make much sense does it?
Roy Jones Jr was a TRUE HW Champ, it's set in stone. He'll probably be the last JMW EVER to move up to HW and win a title too.
I don't know why people got to try and knock Jones down so much. Leave it be.

I stopped recognizing the WBA as a world championship in 2001, so no, I don't consider Roy Jones to have been a true world heavyweight champion since he won the WBA title in 2003.
However, the boxing world continues to recognize the WBA, so Roy Jones gets credit as a world heavyweight champion.

when you have one third of the title, its slim pickings but you are still ONE of the champions. People shouldnt knock on a middleweight taking a HW title, jealousy isnt good. Better to say he fought a very weak champ. "Titlist" is a better word.
Its the same amount of being a HW champ as Deontay Wilder, but with a better win.
Same time if you are holding a grudge against a MW for not making a defence....well..take a look at yourself.

Jones was a heavyweight champion but I did not consider him the best heavyweight in the world at that time. I doubt anyone else considered him the best heavyweight in the world.
Yes he was a heavyweight champ in this time of often four different heavyweight champions having a title at the same time. He was a lousy champion and Jones pick him to fight rather than a better champion.
It's easy to take the Mickey out of him now but that doesn't takeaway what he achieved. Just because he didn't retire when he should have.
He's probably top .15
In that case Duran, DLH and Leonard are garbage since both took major L's after their primes.
10 plus years spent being a bum and laughingstock. he's very far from top ten. or 20. he ruined his legacy.

He probably is top 10 probably, even with all the losses

of course he was. he should've retired after the Ruiz fight and he would've been top 5 all time great.

Yes it’s official he won the WBA belt. It will be on the history books so there’s no debate. I’d like to see canelo charlo bros or any other middleweight to try to go up to light heavyweight at least and win a title
I could understand it being queried if he beat a fellow small heavyweight in the division, but Ruiz was a true heavyweight and legitimately held a portion of the belts.
I just wouldn't go giving it massive credence in terms of multi weight champions. He knew he could beat Ruiz and stepped up one time to do it. He didn't campaign at heavyweight.
