Canelo weighed in at 152lbs in 2013.
We are now in 2018, and Canelo is doing what Golovkin has said he was going to do since 2014 "Anyone from 160 to 168."
It's been four years now, Golovkin will be 37 by the next time he fights, and is still at 160. Canelo is 28 years old.
Golovkin has shown interest in fighting Callum Smith recently, but apparently he's leaning more toward staying at 160. Now after Saturday's performance, Canelo's people were so impressed with how he looked at the weight, they're considering going after Smith themselves in the near future.
This is the difference between a fighter who is all talk, or as Errol Spence Jr. put very well "smoke and mirrors" and a fighter who speaks with his actions and makes things happen.
Look at Canelo's resume and his accomplishments at 28, consider his star power and taking the eye test into consideration as well - tell me how in the ***** is he not the #1 P4P fighter in the world at the moment after running through these facts?
How is a fighter with arguably the worst resume in the top 10 p4p list, Terrence Crawford ranked #1? How and why are guys who have been laying out ground work for years fighting top guys and also the top NAMES in the sport while carrying equal to if not better skills also being bigger attractions - ranked below him? Multiple fighters. Do your research. Something is not right in this sport....it doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever.
Black american fighters have always been favoured in p4p lists. Now that's not racist, in fact its the opposite because looking back in history they have been the best fighters usually. So now all they have to do is have an 0 and beat some half decent competition and they go to the top because people are programmed to think they are the best fighters. When the reality is nowadays they aren't
this post was made by the most racist poster on here so give no credibility to anything this racist scumbag posts
TS makes a good argument.
I think we all have to see what he does next year though because you shouldn't forget he got caught doping and only just eeked out a win against GGG this year.
It's up to him how much he wants it.
Well see.
For p4p, Crawford, Spence and Jacobs are all the rage right now with African Americans. Even though these dudes haven't fought jack shiiit with the exception of Jacobs.
I agree pretty much, especially about the Crawford part. Even Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia have better resumes than this cat but nobody would even joke about putting them in the top 10 P4P list, yet Crawford is #1 in some lists for passing the idiotic "eye test."
Canelo has a great career for such a young guy.
Canelo is #1 p4p.
Crawford and Loma are arguably more skilled, but they need to face multiple top-level opponents before we can truly judge their talent. That's my argument pretty much. They're all very skilled...but who has faced the best opponents over an extended period of time?
Canelo's only loss is to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Being undefeated goes out the window when that is your only loss, as Mayweather is the reigning best fighter of this entire era. Loma has a loss too....to a much worse opponent.
Something just doesn't add up when these p4p rankings are put out. It's more favoritism then anything else.
Canelo is #1 p4p.
Crawford and Loma are arguably more skilled, but they need to face multiple top-level opponents before we can truly judge their talent.
Well put! But this sport is all about tribalism. The Blk and white opinion is a majority, while the Mexican is mule who makes it all happen with they’re willingness to pay and watch every fighter regardless of race. If Mexicans were more active in the politics of boxing then Canelo would get his fair shake. But since they are not inclined to stick up for each other and voice their opinions and be more active then we have to sit in the back of the bus. That’s just how it is IMO
