Canelo, whose first professional title came at junior middleweight, went into his first fight at 168lbs as the favourite, despite the fact he was fighting 14-pounds and two divisions above where he first established himself. The 28-year-old Mexican wasted no time in giving his opponent a taste of what was to come, bruising Fielding's ribs with a huge body shot and sending him to the mat in the first round. Step up to the plate again after having fought GGG twice, it's time for Canelo vs Charlo.
Charlo has done absolutely nothing for that fight to happen. Charlo has not beat anybody of real value at 154 and damn has not at 160.
Charlo is all talk.
Canelo learned from that first Golovkin fight, he pressures so much better since then. He even pressures with just his presence without throwing shots, much like prime G did. Fielding admitted as much in the post-fight presser. It's a fine quality when a fighter continuously learns. Maybe one or two more experiences versus bigger men, and he could be ready for the best at 168.
lara arguably beat canelo, trout fight was very close and could have been a draw, ggg easily beat canelo 1st fight and arguably won again in 2nd fight. and of course floyd completely pwned him. so what does canelo have???? what top fighter has canelo beaten without controversy or without being super close????? none. he is completely without a doubt overrated.
Lara lost by running and not doing anything, Trout was knocked down like a rag doll, GGG lost both times and he was supposed to be a killer and is bigger, Mayweather just slapped him more times and ran, didn´t hurt him and Canelo was not used to that style, he would kill him now....let´s talk about your Boy Floyd; he lost vs Castillo, De La Hoya, Maidana, a draw vs an injured Pacman, was almost knocked down by Mosley, Judah, Maidana....what does he have left?? So STFU ydiot...
Amazing, since a few years ago 160 was too big for him and 152 drained him.
It was too big for him until Cotto took a strap off Martinez, then it wasn't, then when he had to fight GGG, it was too big for him again, until GGG had some more age on him that is, then suddenly 160 is fine, and now 168 is perfectly fine too.
I like Canelo as a fighter, but fights like this crap against feilding, don't do him any favors.
They don't do DAZN any favors either, and I am pretty sure they want subscribers.
Who is going to subscribe to see more fights of that quality? I understand its an 11 fight deal, and they dont want Canelo to lose on his first out on their platform, but atleast put someone with a pulse infront of him.
Canelo's last 20 opponents (over 8 years):
Rocky Fielding - c-level domestic UK fighter
GGG (back to back) - great opponent
Chavez Jr - c-level bum fighter(has a name)
Liam Smith - c-level domestic UK fighter
Amir Khan - 147 lbs ko'd multiple times (has a name)
Miguel Cotto - shot old fighter(has a name) (good fighter at his prime)
James Kirkland - c-level fighter
Erislandy Lara - good opponent
Alfredo Angulo - c-level fighter
Floyd Mayweather Jr. - great opponent
Austin Trout - solid opponent
Josesito López - c-level fighter
Shane Mosley - shot old fighter (has a name) (great fighter at his prime)
Kermit Cintrón - shot fighter
Alfonso Gómez - c-level fighter
Ryan Rhodes - c-level fighter
Matthew Hatton - c-level fighter
Lovemore N'dou - c-level fighter
Carlos Baldomir - c-level fighter
As you can see, there are a lot of c-level & shot old fighters on the list dating back to 2010! Floyd, Lara, Trout, & GGG are the only credible opponents! Moseley & Cotto were great in their primes but shot, old, & used for their names when Canelo faced them. It's crazy how many would lead you to believe Canelo's resume is top notch but it's the farthest from the truth! The weird thing about Canelo's resume is it's actually better than most because the top fighters refuse to fight one another. I believe Canelo is a top five p4p fighter & if I was a betting man, I would pick Canelo to beat Charlo & Jacobs! I just wanted to show how Canelo gets credit for beating a lot of c-level & shot old fighters but I will admit he's not the only one.
Thanks that was informative. When you see the list of who he fought it opens your eyes.

Not sure if I completely agree with your C-level ratings. A few of those dudes are tough. I do agree that if he fights at 160 and ducks Jacobs, Andrade, and Charlo then his title rings hollow. The May fight will probably be a Sulecki, lemieux, or even a Derevyanchenko. After that he should fight the division's best or move up! Perhaps a catchweight fight with a top 168 pounder.
Seems to me that you can argue other than an old-small, washed up Cotto - Canelo has lost to every good opponent or better. -shrugs-
Only in your imagination he lost again them.
He beat all them
And there is not a fighter with better names on his resume. Only an old Pacquiao
Boxing is still a circus. Who's next to the champ? Charley Z at the T-Mobile center Las V? I mean come on can we see the guy fight or was the taste of reality G gave him to bitter. Ginger man is still on the juice they just found a more efficient process of beating the golden snitch.
Hahahahaha look at this clown
His best wins on this 8 year list are questionable and he got schooled by Floyd not to mention he used PEDs to accomplish this making it that less impressive.
Questionable only for haters like you.
He beat them, and that sh.it about peds only an idiot can believes. That.
Canelo naturally is a very strong fighter and he fu.cked up your idol GGG
Unbelievable

I think Canelo will unify 160 by 2020. He has the pull to make it happen. I don't see Miracle Man or Boo Boo stopping him. Also, fighting at 160 with rehydration limit is going to be hard on Danny Jacobs.
It will be even harder for canelo bro. To make weight with a rehydration limit. Dude always fought as light heavyweight as a middle weight. With his mystery pill before both GGG fights.

great post! But I think Charlo beats him.
