So let’s rewind back 4 months and on here criticism was very high of DAZN and it’s fair to say the majority of Americans on here were skeptical.
Now, after a couple of months of fights, new deals and signings - has the perception changed? What’s your views?
So that stopping in the middle of time-slipping and jumping to the live stream only happens on the PS4? I hate that crap!
Yeah it was smooth on the roku tried it wired and wireless no problems the same with hbogo app
Originally I was disappointed with it after trying it on my ps4 and smart tv there was bad video quality and frame rate issues with a wired connection but when I tried viewing it on a roku ultra the difference was night and day it was cable quality stream same with hbogo

i was all in and signed up when dazn announced they were carrying wbss...so far im liking it./..esp with the mma stuff too...now with golden boy and hopefully loeffler in the mix 2019 is a breakout year for them
Did Usyk's value skyrocket one bit in the states? Honestly, very little if any.
Advisor isn't going to let one of his marquee names go to another network for four fights. Advisor needs that name and others like him to get network deals for his product...Likewise for promoters.
Agree wirh that, particularly since WBSS is now aligned to DAZN at the moment- previously they weren’t committed to a potential rival. That changes he dynamics somewhat
Well that particular tournament was almost entirely based in Europe, and his profile did indeed skyrocket here and he gets way more attention in the global boxing media now than he did before it. If a tournament contained more American fighters and took place mostly on American soil, then winning it would absolutely be a big boost in the States
My point about the advisor was just a jab at the conflict of interests in Haymon's dual role of advisor/PBC CEO. The WBSS is a maximum of three fights, for what it's worth. Don't know why you keep saying four. Usyk was occupied from September 2017 until July 2018. PBC fighters routinely stay on the shelf for longer than that
Three or four fights same difference.
That's the difference right there. Lomachenko and Garcia are strictly US fighters. That's where they fight and that's where their value is.
Not going to be a big boost if it takes place on DAZN, a new streaming service. Maybe after Canelo fights a time or two. Not now though.
Either way, those big names aren't fighting in no tournaments and definitely not outside of their network that they fight on.

Well, strictly speaking an advisor should let the fighter do what's in their best interest, which the WBSS would be if it had the lion's share of the DAZN boxing budget. It's reported that currently the WBSS winners get $8m in total. If you doubled that to $16m that would be a cool $3.2m to the promoter assuming their cut is about 20%, without even having to do any work or assume any risk. Plus if their fighter wins the tournament then his value skyrockets for the future (look at Usyk as an example)

And again, what makes you think Arum will let Lomachenko enter the tournament and fight on another network for three or four fights, and same with Mikey Garcia? Their advisors/promoters aren't going to allow that to happen. Top Rank's two biggest stars are Crawford and Lomachenko, and you think they just let Lomachenko fight on DAZN for four fights? No f'n way.

Because the WBSS is not a regular promotion and doesn't have a stable. It's not in direct competition with other promotions so its relationship with them is not so adversarial. With a big enough budget it could steadily build its prestige until it reached a point where marquee fighters like Lomachenko and Mikey would demand to participate, because it's the most effective way to secure a legacy and it would be paying no less than their regular promoters anyway

What difference is that from Hearn having all this money? The money Sauerland would have would be the same as what Hearn has right now. And how did that work out for him? Again, those fighters from the popular weight classes wouldn't enter the tournament. Giving all that budget to a non-American promoter was always going to be hard. You literally have to build up your stable opposed to giving money to someone already with a big stable.

Did the free month in Sept. caught some fights but they were pretty much garbage. Never even caught a whole fight on DAZN. WBSS is okay but nothing really special to want me to continue to pay on a monthly basis. Canelo/Fielding is another garbage fight, I will re subscribe when they have a big meaningful fight and then cancel till the next one. The problem is that Hearn came off talking all this stuff, claiming to be the money man and ****ting on other promoters cards, instead of doing all that he should be using all that effort in promoting his fighters and making good fights. His cards have been garbage and no better than anything else out there.
That's with their current budget. With Hearn's budget they could outbid anyone. At some point it becomes bad business sense not to let your fighters participate when you get 10% (or whatever) from their purses and they're only away from you for a year at most. The WBSS model steps on fewer toes than a regular promotion like Matchroom USA

Golden Boy and Matchroom USA aren't going to deliver content worth paying for 12 months a year. People will jump on/off, which will make it even more difficult for DAZN to recoup what they're putting into boxing.
Yea I think GBP will do better with getting fans amped then Matchroom has. If DAZN is smart it wouldn't be a bad deal to just give Hearn all the non-US parts of DAZN & have GBP be the main player on the US side. Thats how I feel like its gonna end up anyway cuz Oscar knows what people in the US want better than Eddie.
They should split it up that way, I agree.
I like Eddie, but the vibe is all wrong and foreign.
I feel Golden Boy understands how to present a boxing match to Americans. Looking forward to their shows.
In the end, my desire to watch boxing surpasses my need to nitpick so I'll be keeping DAZN and ESPN+. Really enjoyed watching Miller and Gabe Rosado this past week or so.
In the end, it's nice to know that there will be some boxing for me on a consistent basis each month as I usually would go months without any action. That feeling is worth the $15 bucks for me.
You just said it, cruiserweights and bantaweights. Again, two non-money divisions. Are they getting the MWs? Or HWs? Or WWs? No, and there is reason for that. They aren't even going to target those weight classes because they know it is a waste of time. Try getting the LW division when Mikey was there with Lomachenko to see if those two enter the tournament. Spoiler alert, they wouldn't enter the tournament. Why? Because their promoters/advisors already have TV deals and wouldn't send them away for the tournament. Hence why TR didn't let Jose Ramirez join the 140 tournament.

You forgot one- My opinion changed after they made Canelo the $365 million dollar man. I signed up shortly after.
Was not going to sign previously before that.
They were pretty successful at securing the best fighters at cruiserweight and bantamweight simply because they could pay the fighters more than they could get elsewhere. With a ridiculous budget like Hearn's they could extend that to the more glamorous divisions. They won't get everyone at first but as long as it stays funded it will gain prestige with time and maybe one day it could realise Sauerland's dream of becoming the Champion's League of boxing. Say what you will about him but he's the only man in boxing sincerely trying to make the best fight the best

Just on your point re triple G.
The point of this thread was about DAZN not Eddie Hearn. So if triple G signs with DAZN rather than Eddie Hearn the net effect should Be similar, potentially even more beneficial if event if even more dates? YOur response does seem quite typical though in that some Americans have a relationship issue with Eddie and allow them to cloud their judgement on whether they want DAZN or not? Now that is something to consider re the marketing’s of course going forward - should Eddie allow someone else to be the front man for matchroom USA and lead it from the social media aspect for instance ?
Typical of what exactly? I figured you were talking about what Hearn needed to do.
As for DAZN? Of course, the more bigger names the better. This is the short-term market they have to kill until they go after bigger sports rights.
And I don't let anything cloud my judgement. I already mentioned I subscribed to DAZN the day it was made available. I already stated I am satisfied with the product. The stream quality is great and much smoother than ESPN+, and the WBSS is awesome.
There is really no need to let anyone else lead Matchroom USA. For what? If he isn't able to attract the bigger names, then DAZN will just eventually adjust the budget and give some of Hearn's budget to GBP and/or Loeffler.
Hearn just has to be careful that he isn't taking too much on too soon. Dude is supposed to be the front man for DAZN-Italy, DAZN-Canada, DAZN-Germany etc. When you are doing so many things at once, your product tends to decline. I mean how can we put as much to the UK and USA ventures when he has so many other dates/countries to worry about? Seems like DAZN is very comfortable with Hearn and they have a built in relationship already being in London and having their headquarters close to each other I believe. Doesn't mean that is always the best for business though.
WBSS is great for the HARDCORES. But make no mistake, the WBSS isn't adding many casual subscribers. Even if they were given the type of money HEARN was, what makes you think they would have signed the big names? Do the big names even want to participate in a tourney? That's why weight classes with lesser names are the ones in it. None of the "glamour" divisions are participating in it.

He's not signing GGG though. Loeffler has made it clear he wants his own deal like the one GBP got. GBP didn't go through Hearn and he doesn't want to either. But there is a difference as Canelo is the biggest name stateside and GBP still has a bigger/deeper stable than Loeffler. Still, I think DAZN eventually gives in and signs GGG separate and gives Loeffler life four dates a year.
Jacobs is already his fighter and he can bring him to DAZN now that the HBO deal is up.
Since he wasn't able to sign the bigger American names he was after, I have a feeling he will have to start putting Joshua stateside once a year. So one fight in the UK, and the other in America. Only so many Big Baby headliner cards you could put on. Simply doesn't have the stable for the amount of dates he has. Will have to mix in some UK fighters fighting stateside like Joshua, Khan, etc.
