"a lineal descendant"
It is literally impossible to be stripped of a lineal title, retirement means nothing. The lineal champ is back and fighting next Saturday. The lineal championship is on the line.
98% of Boxingscene. Everyone thinks they're an expert and none or them have actually partaken in the sport.
It's like being obese and living in your moms basement bragging online about how many 10s you bang daily.
But it's the internet. It gives these people power they would have never had regardless especially because they can remain anonymous
Exactly my friend.
If you were the "Duke of shinola" and a minister who held that distinction and was now the Duke of Shengala" how would you handle that situation? It so happens with this type of title, vis a vis the claim to this title, that under some circumstances, you can have two title holders in the same room and, unlike time travel for example (under certain theories at least) you will not create an event! so to speak. Tunney will always be a Lineal as well as the guy before and after him, you can call him "former" if you like, but no need to do so!
The former, present distinction is actually more formal a distinction than necessary. Two guys are in a room, one is dead the other is alive and fighting tomorrow... First off, one guy can make a claim, the other cannot. So Tunney is resolved, but in walks 45 year old, pudgy Lewis lets say! Well you ask Lewis, are you fighting? lets say he says he is fighting and that he is claiming the lineal again...Well you have two guys claiming the lineal and?
People act as though this somehow destroys the claim? Would you say the same if your rich uncle left a home and several family members claimed the home? would that destroy the title to the home? would the administrator say "fvk it, the title to this home is destroyed because of claims to it." Hardly. You establish the next owner and 'quiet title.' What stops the process of two claimants, establishing the present holder by fighting the best guy?
Someone who gets it.
I think things can change very quickly too. There's a lot of money invested in Crawford and ESPN is pushing him so I think matches can happen even without having to strike a deal with the PBC.
I think Jose Ramirez will likely fight Maurice Hooker soon so if he wins that he's a huge 140 pounder that's a justifiable fight and a potential ticket seller in Vegas or Cali. Ramirez (if he wins) would have excellent credentials. Would be easy to make. Then there's the winner of the 140 WBSS which is likely to be Regis Prograis or Josh Taylor both will be at 140 soon enough (Taylor is huge there) I think if they can't get into the PBC guys then Crawford and TR will welcome that with open arms. Carlos Adames if he keeps looking good could be a good option in 18 months or so if he can get a title and Crawford wants a fight outside of 147.
Those aren't Crawford-Spence but if Crawford fights (for example) Ramirez, Taylor, Adames in the next two years at the rate they are improving and looking so good I wouldn't be hugely disappointed. If that happens and Crawford is still the man and Spence has unified Thurman's and Porter's titles then I think the fight will be so big that the fight will happen.
i wouldnt disagree with that
fights will materialize for "stars"...which crawford is
i think spence has a better road by virtue of his affiliation...but whatever....i dont favor either guy...i like them both...and would lovvvveee to see them fight......crawford can get by and fight some decent guys
Tunney is dead. You can't make a claim when you are dead.
Lennox has made no claim. Lennox's old fat ass can come out of retirement and make a claim if he likes.
Claim is not a difficult concept. Why do y'all act like you struggle to understand it?
Hey man, op didn't mention anything about death stripping a man of the title.
i like crawford alot...i really do...you dont see me anywhere bashing him....and to a certain degree i agree with you...im not really aruging against what youre saying
im talking more about the guys bashing al and the pbc for their WW fights vs what crawford is/has been doing at WW and what the landscape looks like for him there in the near future
al has already made some good WW fights....and he still has a few he can make in the near future once thurman gets back into the swing of things...he still has thurman, porter, mikey/spence.....and hes already made the list of fights at WW i already listed
some of these pbc/al haters act like he needs to pit danny, porter, thurman, spence and mikey against each other every time out or else hes making crap/bum fights...as if bob would do that if he had als WW roster...no promoter would.....
i dont have a problem with crawford...ill just say his WW near future looks bleak....but ive always maintained that fights with materialize for "stars" of the sport...which crawford certainly is....
theres just no need to bash what haymon has been doing and is doing with his WW fighters...hes put on some good fights already and has plenty he can do going forward......i think youre missing my point and the reality of the situation....im not here to bash crawford...i like him

It's sad. I get being a fan of someone, but when it makes you delusional to the entire sport one must take a step back.

I'm going to bump these threads after DW beats fury and you all have to swallow your pride and say Deontay Wilder is the lineal heavyweight champion. But of course that's why you'll conveniently say...nut uh fury wasn't lineal because blah blah
So gene tunney is still champ then.

Well... Now you are understanding the issue from a more realistic perspective. Alcohol can dull and be used in later amounts of a fight to help one endure...SO it has an effect on performance, as do many different ways that performance enhancers do so, all acting differently upon the individual.
What about drugs that help heal an injury and have steroidal components? Do we deny an old athlete the chance to heal? because of archiac drug laws? even when a younger athlete would not even benefit from the drug?
These are some complications that arise with a Pat response to the use of performance enhacers.
So championships won under a drugs ban remain valid?
How many championships do you know about with respect to drugs taken, influences, etc? And I mean with certainty, like "this amount of a substance was taken with this result attributed to it, etc. A certain amount of that is part of boxing, therefore it is an issue onto itself... So maybe fighters who packed the hands in the old days get a pass, maybe if the next guy takes a new drug that turns you into a savage berzerker is told he is cheating.... There is no definite answer to this question because we don't really even know the extent that different performance enhancers were taken.
I don't have a collective belief about this issue, just prefer to sort it out in a case by case basis. Its stupid to deny someone for an antihistimine, or who needed a treatment for an injury, for example. An other issue is when someone is caught. For example, Holyfield obviously juiced, whether he is caught during a training with a drug test, or not. We have legal proof...so what do you do? Case by case...
:lol1: Yes, why on earth would you assume drugs would have any bearing on the old title?
You could win drunk off your ass and shout about how drunk as **** you are.

Good point.
Cyberzone and Transnational boxing which seem to be a yard-stick for people had Pacquiao as lineal after beating Bradley. He retired after the fight, but 7 months later was in the ring with Vargas.
He lost his lineal status when he 'retired' between Bradley and Vargas fights. There was no #1 vs #2 fight while he was gone, and he wasn't seen as lineal upon his return, If he was Crawford would now hold that trinket.
Crawford won every title in quick time at 140 and basically cleaned at 135 first going in the road and then the Gamboa fight at the time was a big deal. Crawford has gotten so good and dominant his last achievement doesn’t look as impressive as it is.
He’s the most accomplished American fighter currently active by some distance.
