I'm not sure exactly how good Callum Smith is yet. He seems to be competent at everything without being elite at anything. Decent power, solid jab, does his fundamentals but he ain't somebody who excites me. I don't see this one happening, but if he's ready to cash out with the GGG fight already then good luck to him.
You literally just described ggg at 168. Decent power, solid jab, does his fundamentals but he ain't somebody who excited me.
Anyway, ggg is out til March or April 2019 at the earliest. I will bet he might only fight 1 time in 2019 if Canelo tells him fight charlo to secure a 3rd fight. And my estimate is he fights a bum. Either a fast, feather fisted boxer or slow, powerful brawler he can know out easily.
I would love to see it. I think Golovkin will actually do better against 168 lbs not named Canelo. They are not as quick or as athletic as the 160 pounders, plus with GGG new jab first style he can box more to set up power shots. I think it is a good fight for both fighters.
New jab first style? He was always a jab first style. He just was fighting smaller fighters and b level talent. A bigger fighter with much longer reach normally will out jab him. Ggg would need to fight in the inside to close the distance.
Ducked ward comments incoming if true .NO... first of all Ward was hurt and dealing with legal issues. when he came back he said he was moving up due to the struggle to make 168. all these Ward nutt garglers need to get them out of their mouths.:bottle:

I bet he gets paid more for this fight then any other fight but canelo at this point.
They really wanted that Japan fight
But this one is way more dangerous. Smith is about 6'3" and probably walks into the ring a CW on fight night. GGG's best asset is his power, which will be negated at that weight. I can see big problems for GGG going up against Smith, even if Smith isn't the most skilled fighter around. I have to wonder if it's worth the $5-10M he can make on this one.
Fight the guy who stopped Fielding. Not a bad move, but I don’t see the risk versus reward here. Likely not a big money fight and a loss would pretty much seal his fate of blowing his chances at a Canelo trilogy.

GGG wins this fight fairly easily. Smith dosen't have a quarter of the skills that canelo does. He's right there in front of you to be hit. Great style match up for ggg. Won't be surprised if smith passes on the fight.
Yeah, Smith doesn't have the quickness and footwork to avoid GGG's hammer, GGG would have some success getting him in the ropes.
That being said, Smith has himself a big punch and a long reach.
Interesting fight.

It's not the worst move he could make, (potentially) win the real title at 168 and then after Canelo wins the fake title easily, take him on in a super middleweight "unification fight". If I were Golovkin I wouldn't want to take on Canelo at 168 he was already ****ing him up at 160.
I think GGG won the first fight, the second one was close, could have gone either way, but ultimately GGG took more damage from Canelo's power punches, it's a good money fight but I would not want to do it if I were him.
I think 160 has been getting more difficult to make so fair play to him if he thinks 168 might suit him better. Smith is a tall order though, no pun intended
only from the uninformed and misinformed. wards offer was not legit and was contingent on ggg preemptively delaying his fight against cotto/canelo in a 2 fight deal. it was great PR for ward but nothing more. ward had the chance to fight ggg when both were available but for some reason made that offer and needed more tune ups oh well
gtfoh. ggg didnt fight canelo for another 2 years. he could have easily moved up and became a urban legend if he would have beat ward.
and ward was coming off of a 2 year layoff, so ggg may have pulled off a win.
now 160 loaded and he thinking about moving up? nah 160 or bust.
Ggg 168
GGG is not going to 168. Nobody said anything about GGG at 168. This is complete nonsense. He'll probably fight Rob Brant in a one off on ESPN and joing DAZN for a Canelo rematch. He may wait until Canelo - Fielding and try to secure the Canelo rematch. Either way there is no indication of GGG moving to 168.
I like it, it is far more dangerous than Rocky Fielding though, Callum probably beats GGG at 168. Callum is a BIG 168, but forget size, Callum actually have some SKILLS
Of course he is going to get backlash for not going up for Ward but going up for Callum but that was YEARS AGO also UnAbel Sanchez was the one who created that situation by running his mouth

That's a bad fight for Golovkin. He probably loses. Maybe even gets stopped. He might have a granite chin at 160, but this is a fighter who packs a big punch and is a very large guy himself.
Dude is 6'3" with 78" reach and made George Groves look small/walked right over him.
I don't see a way for Golovkin to win this fight, especially when he is past his prime.

From a legacy stands point, it would be GGG's best win and the lineal 168 title + a ABC belt are at stakes.
Regarding the money, a brit stadium + DAZN platform might bring a nice paycheck.
