I keep thinking about any flaws, I'm no boxing expert, and I can't think of a single one. Apart from physical injuries (brittle hands) later in his career, did he ever make mistakes in the ring? Any fights where he lost focus and slipped up?
Why does McGregor count?
Err, a boxer whose hands are down after a hug and looking at the ref after he was hit then hit again counts as sucker punch.
Yeah agreed on both accounts. I was responding to the other post saying that McGregor does not count, and that Ortiz does not count as well...I the other post had counted Ortiz as a Knockout and said that McGregor managed to go the distance with Floyd, so I made the point that McGregor was carried by Floyd and that Ortiz was not a legitimate KO. So I think we are on the same page.
He NEVER lost a fight...he barely lost more than 3 rounds each fight....he fought some really good fighters like Chico, Hoya, Judah, Cotto, Mosley, Pac, Nelo, and JMM and some dogs with dangerous bites like Castillo, Gatti, Maidana, Hatton and few more...if he did have ANY SIGNIFICANT FLAWS those dudes would have did better than they did against him...they’re good enough and knowledgeable enough to do so but you can’t expose flaws that are not there
The read title says FLAWS. Not significant flaws.
Power and killer instincts are not quite there when you keep wining 9 rounds out of 12 and your opponents aren't knocked down or even wearing glasses after the fights.
In all fairness, Floyd carried Conner so that is not valid. But neither was the Ortiz sucker punch!

Exactly, when you beat the guys he beat over 20yrs you gotta be special in terms of adaption to what they bring, its tough at the top of boxing and the fights are 12 rounds if you add up the numbers he won it was something like 500 rounds and lost about 40 rounds.
Floyds numbers and I mean all numbers from dollars to punch stats, nobody in the history of boxing comes close to his numbers and stats .
Fellas you can hate on this man all you want, you can try and belittle everything he did all you want, but to deny his ability inside a boxing ring is just straight up denial of a great fighter.
Floyds greatest asset is his control of distance and his spacial awareness, that awareness was never more evident than when he got clobbered by Mosley, that punch would have dropped so many fighters its not funny, some of them would have not got up, Floyd was in such control of the situation for being so hurt it really showed me what he has on the inside when looking at that dark place fighters go too.
His distance setting is a joy to watch, the jab to the belly was his main distance setter and it also stopped a fighters rhythm in their tracks, it fkd Hattons game completely, Floyd could fight very long for his size or in a phone booth and was just a master of upsetting a fighters rhythm he could do it from near any position, a master boxer! The trainers and fighters know it because they can see the master in his boxing, most fans dont see half of it.
Floyd was complete, his inside game was as good as his outside game, he was a great body puncher, he was great at tying guys up and he was great at punching short with uppercuts and rips, this why Hatton and Maidana smothered their own punches, because they were being caught every time they allowed punching room, they fcked their own game because Floyd was adapting to them and making them work while he is getting ready for the moment the bull-rush stops then he goes to work.
There are 2 types of power punches, thudding like GGG and ones that crack like a small caliber bullet, Floyd had that cracking punch it was sharp and carried enough pop to stop great fighters from just walking through him, thats all it had to do, add to that Floyd proved to have a rock solid chin so even if you got something solid in he could take it and then he just goes back to dissecting you.
Did Floyd have flaws he is human he has to have flaws, but when you can take a mistake and turn it into a win mid flight it puts you in another league where adaptions that succeed have no flaws, adaption only has methods.
.
I can’t really find any flaw on him, as he got older he was getting hit with the jab but when you have 12 round fights then you would get it. I really do believe that he was the complete fighter in a boxing ring. He adapt his arsenal as he got older. When he was younger his biggest flaw was if you maul him, but he even adapt to that too and he even prefers if his opponents maul him. Even when he got hit with the jab he tends to adapt to that too and take it away from you. I really do believe that he had it all.

Power? No knock downs since Ortiz was looking at Cortez when Floyd punchded him. Let's not an amateur boxer, Conor McGregor .
I don't remember Maidana wearing shades after their fights .
Pac surely was not wearing shades .
Floyd has doubles power but not many home runs.
Floyd had decent power at 140.
But, at 147, he just does not hit like a welter with some pop.
Can't blame him, he has bad hands.
In all fairness, Floyd carried Conner so that is not valid. But neither was the Ortiz sucker punch!
Floyd has two weaknesses pressure and he's deceptively a boxer puncher a heart, a a plus boxer, but if you box with him he'll sit on the ropes and bait you into a war, like he did Oscar, cotto, maidana, Manny when tagged... Floyd understands especially later in his career he could get hit with shots he doesn't see in the middle of the ring, and there will be no ropes...If you boxed Floyd and keep his output low two task that clash against each other you could make it a close fight
The only person skilled enough to play that high level chess was Manny despite criticism he was super sharp vs Floyd and both had back n forth periods of rounds where they adjusted neutralize each other but, by 8-9 Floyd went into a whole other level, nothing not even a jab to the arm is touching him mode without earning it
He's undefeated in a professional career facing the most CHAMPIONS
He's in the PPV era he has 4 of 5 top PPVS
when he was fighting people his size at the lower weights he was getting many KO's
Using PAC as an excuse is for idiots, PAC didnt want to take the PED tests he eventually accepted, Roach said it was PAC'S fault that fight didnt happen also..
Floyd has shown what BOXING IS REALLY ABOUT, "Hit and dont get hit" But most of these people :usaribbon always have EXCUSES and when their people loses, they have an excuse or a plethora of them. But I grew up in America, so WE know this is another line to discredit someone that didnt fight the way YOU wanted, Wilder has knocked out EVERYONE he faced......that still isnt enough, (then they wonder why you dont believe them, no credibility) Floyd went undefeated, most money beat EVERY supposed rival, Pac and Canelo got MAYBE 4 rounds total vs him, Pac stopped his traditional "balls to the wall" approach just as every other boxer did. The guys that actually faced him, say power WASNT a problem, THE PEOPLE THE ACTUALLY FACED HIM have said DIFFERENT. ill take their opinion, and I'll take the PROFESSIONAL JUDGES opinion before I'll take a fans opinion (every fight is a robbery):boxing:

Floyd almost doubled Maidana over with a body shot as well..people think he has no power but those who faced him tell a different tale..thats why you cant just run in on him
Exactly! You can't know much about the sport if you have that opinion. It isn't a surprise considering who posted it.
he fought both Maidana and Cotto flat-footed
where was Maidana's jab in the rematch when Floyd boxed him?
Hoya was MUCH bigger, and still elite... and Mayweather took his jab away
Kenny Bayless ruined that rematch. you know it. I know it. inside fighting was essentially banned that night and Floyd used clinches to bring the ref over. and Maidana jab was still effective. Floyd never seemed comfortable with jabs. that's the only thing anybody can nitpick. If he would've followed through with his crazy plan of fighting Winky at 154 in 2005 he would've gotten his ass whooped.. bad.

I was going to post something similar so permit me to dovetail on Larry's observation. Floyd, like Ward is an incredibly accurate puncher. This matters because many times he hits guys blind side (the guy does not anticipate the punch) and when he hits its on an area that does maximum damage.
This comes into play for floyd when he is throwing his right over an opponent's briefly extended left. The opponent is looking at his own fist and arm and Pow!! Floyd not only catches him over the shoulder of the extended arm but he sneaks it right in on the jaw. Now, most guys would hit with that but not get to the jaw... that is the accuracy. Seen him use that punch many times.
Ward did something very similar when he beat Dawson. He kept throwing the left hook low to Dawson's guard...He let Dawson get real comfortable and think he had that covered...slowly he punches lower enticing Dawson to lower his back guard arm and suddenly when Dawson is conditioned to guard low, he throws a right (diverting/fienting) and throws that hook just high enough to sneak over Dawson's guard and that precipitated a knock down.
Accurate punchers do not have to be big power punchers.
Did not throw a left hook after connecting with a right lead.
The reward of a KO was just not worth the risk to him.
Even if Sr was screaming at him to do it and not fight like a f@g like he did against Pac.
Sr was screaming for it .
I keep thinking about any flaws, I'm no boxing expert, and I can't think of a single one. Apart from physical injuries (brittle hands) later in his career, did he ever make mistakes in the ring? Any fights where he lost focus and slipped up?
Nah, he comes in a fight with a good game plan and a greater mindset, he knows exactly what he’s gonna do to win. He knows if he’ll fight aggressively or not.
if something works for an opponent he finds ways to nullify them.
He has his flaws but they’re too minimal, that’s why he can adjust them in the middle of the game. Plus no one has been good enough to exploit them. As the windows are too short, and far between.
That’s why prime pac would have been a good test since he was relentless, and had the ability and energy to try and try again.. changing from 1st gear up to the 4th.
Guys like nelo has no 2nd gear even, cotto hoya nope.
Pac version floyd fought, was the hesitant boxer mode version already who got planked by marquez, stupid fans thought it was being smart but he’s lost what made him special and that’s unpredictability.
He no longer had the stamina to even throw 500 plus punches a night.
Floyd's flaw was staying on the ropes to long and trying to make someone miss, while on the ropes when countering and setting up his shoulder roll and trying to make fighters burn themselves out, trying to pressure him and knock him out.
Example Victor Ortiz and his pressure while Floyd being against the ropes, even landing against Floyd and Oscar and his combination attack while he was scoring points against Floyd on the ropes, thinking of certain counters and Cotto and his attack and Floyd on the ropes getting busted up and bleeding and the last one, Maidana and Floyd spending to much time on the ropes trying to get Maidana to burn himself out, but Maidana had great conditioning and didn't fold and this cost Floyd rounds and almost a robbery, it was when Floyd used his legs then Maidana couldn't do nothing, but eat punches and complain about running.
You ever notice Floyd didn't pull the ropes thing against Canelo, because of Canelo"s power and strength and Floyd wouldn't take that chance, so Floyd would just slip and slide off the ropes making Canelo miss punches, keeping him in the center of the ring, the whole fight.
So Floyd"s main and only weakness was fighting off the ropes for to long and getting tagged and hurt, just watch the Floyd vs Chop chop Corley fight and against Zab Judah when he also rocked Floyd on the ropes like Corley and others.
Also notice Floyd never played that ropes game against Diego Corrales, when Floyd shut him out.
For those who say Mayweather had problems with balance, simply incorrect, Mayweather had the best balance in the history of boxing, his footwork and balance was insane.
Punching power incorrect, Floyd had enough power to back up and stop Canelo who just went toe to toe against GGG and even GGG hurt Canelo just like Floyd but not worse.
Maidana should've tried to fight Floyd on the ropes the full fight and could've won and stolen it, just by keeping busy and using a constant attack, same thing with Judah and attacking Floyd against the ropes, but Floyd"s ring IQ and skills wouldn't allow this and Floyd"s number one strength was his Boxing knowledge and in ring IQ adjustments and strategy, not speed not power, but in the ring, boxing intelligence and adjustments, strategy.
Floyd almost doubled Maidana over with a body shot as well..people think he has no power but those who faced him tell a different tale..thats why you cant just run in on him
yep ^^
wasnt much of a power puncher. never understood why more fighters didnt just try and walk through him. when u fight a slick with no power youve got to get stuck into them. obviously its easier said then done but maidana was one of the few who started with intensity and showed no respect and he almost won despite being more limited than some of the others who werent even competitive.
I heard that schtick 10+ years ago
Mayweather punches are technically correct, and VERY accurate
like I said before the Hoya fight..... nobody has ever walked through Floyd's punches, and nobody ever will
it is deceiving, you got deceived
