Per ESPN, attendance for Jessie Vargas-Thomas Dulorme at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago was 6,235.
The crowd was pretty active too.
Does this mean Vargas is a bigger draw than we thought, or was Chicago just primed for a show?
i'm not going to be this dude who ****s on eddie hearn for putting on boxing matches. it's not easy to break into a new martket, and he's putting boxing on my TV and the fights were decent - very good action fights when they played out. dulorme and vargas was a fantastic fight.
i'll **** on eddie for keeping joshua away from the biggest payday in HW history to make less money and fight at home in 2019. i'll **** on eddie for NOT putting on boxing matches.
Yea I think I heard someone say that in some video I watched earlier. Mighta been Hearn actually. But yea I used to live in Chicago & been to plenty a show there & that Polish audience is for real & loyal. I could see them leaving after Adamek fought.
adamek was one of the biggest domestic ticket sellers in the states for a number of years, there are huge polish crowds in chicago. he couldn't go to vegas and sell 1500 dollar tickets, but he could sell a bunch of 150 dollar tickets in chicago for about a decade.
thanks. yea the fights were great, but vargas pissed me off by pressing for more in the last minute of the 12th when he already had the win wrapped up.
i think matchroom have the right idea. people in america, especially immigrants from certain countries, are hungry for national heroes, boxing is unique in its ability to get people inspired. a big baby fight in belize would probably do great numbers, just like a polish fighter would always attract folks in chicago. its clear that the potential is there for huge success if boxing events are done right.
I'm a fan of boxing events being held in Chicago, in Boston later this month, and maybe smaller cities after that. Too many people opt for the NY/LA/Vegas circuit and leave potential fans out in the cold. That's one reason why the UFC was able to build so successfully. They weren't afraid to put on shows in smaller towns across the country.
He's lying.
Right, and if he doesn't believe in that strategy, he sure will promoting shows in the states. I don't know if he gives away tickets or not in the UK, but that surely happens everywhere stateside. And looks like he was doing the same for his Chicago card.
Very good post and sounds like it sums up really well. For a first fight without any top names, I see it as a beginning of a journey. They have openly said they want to go to many different cities and this is a start. I watched the last four and agree Miller ended up too one sided but the other three were great fights!

so with events in chicago, i think you have to be able to understand the city a bit. chicago is one of the most diverse cities in america, but yet, one of the most segregated.
hearn probably put together the card with the diversity in mind, with belizians, hispanics, polish, white, and african american boxers on the card to draw people from those communities. it worked to an extent, because the crowd was truly diverse. but because of the aforementioned culture of separation, and the fact that this was the first chicago mainstream boxing event in a while, different crowds would filter in and out of the arena as different fights were going on. and after the adamek fight, probably about 50% of the crowd left. throughout the event, many people were hanging out around the gallery and the bars if their "representation" wasn't fighting, so that explains why it looked empty at some points. at peak, the lower bowl was probably 80-90% full. not sure what that number translates to, but probably around 7k, if the arena capacity is truly 10500. i wish the big baby-adamek fight was longer or more competitive. people were really into it, and the energy was great. it wasn't a bad first show for a new entry into the american boxing events scene.

Listen to the latest Yahoo boxing podcast. Hearn doesn’t like the idea of giving tickets away for free. It’s against his philosophy and he will never do it.

It was hijacked by French Canadians according to that poster named W1ll

Crazy how poorly attended boxing is in the US though, 2 world title fights and 2 other top 10 in their division guys. Ritson's sold more tickets for next weekend fighting for the EBU title.
PBC routinely draws huge crowds for high prices in New York.
The problem with these Matchroom USA shows is that they don't have any fighters Americans care about.

This thread can't possibly be real. They were giving away tickets left and right. The building looked empty on TV. There were probably 6,235 tickets out there, but I'd be shocked if they sold more than 3,000.

Not necessarily it's just Hearn can't promote well here in the States For Example Broner vs Vargas at Barclays nearly sold the arena out while the next Week his Show with Jacobs who's a NY native on same venue make 6-7k in attendance
I was there at the show I don't buy that attendance there was maybe 3,800 tops and many of them left after Adamek lost keep in mind that the capacity is 10,500 and the arenas top layer was completely unused and blocked off

Two title fights who exactly who though? Roman has no fan base at all, Beterbiev isn't selling any tickets, Vargas has no base and Miller isn't selling any tickets in Chicago. The location of this card wasn't good, but Adamek salvaged it as well as he could.
