Take it however you will. This isn't damming by any means, just "curious"...
Earlier this year Dominic Ingle was asked about Canelo's failed test, to which he responded;
“There are a whole host of other fat-burning drugs and supplements that are perfectly legal in sport up to a certain level, like salbutamol, which is a prescription drug for asthma. That has a similar effect to clenbuterol but it’s not seen as performance-enhancing.
“I’ve got a guy in my gym, for example, who suffers from asthma and has been on that since he was 14. He’s 24 now and the one thing you notice about him is he’s permanently ripped.”
Note: the drug mentioned above is NOT the drug BJS was popped for. Nor is Saunders the subject of the 2nd paragraph.
I only posted this thread because his knowledge and attitude seems to be very relevant to recent developments.
I agree. What I really have a hard time with is the brazen attitude of BJS toward Canelo, ripping him up one side and down the other over cheating. Saying he should be banned for life and he'll never consider any of his wins valid. Meanwhile, this SOB is gaming the system just the same.
I don't even say that in defense of Canelo, simply as someone who dislikes hypocrites.
I honestly think BJS thinks he's a clean fighter and doesn't know what he takes, or what his team give him. If it turns out he was using a nasal spray with this drug in it then fair enough, he should still get a 6 month ban and be stripped IMO. What troubles me more is the discrepancy between the testing agencies on what drugs can be used legally or out of competition. This drug is an obvious PED and if you are training for an event then - to me - that is in competition.
This is what it's all about. When fighters say they don't PED's what they really mean is that they don't take illegal or banned PED's. What happened with the British cycling team really highlighted this. Bradley Wiggins being legally given steriods for asthma before events (which he then won).
The boxing game has too much money involved for people not to game the system.

Best I understand, it's a variation of ephedrine. Drug makers often look to create chemical alterations of banned substances so that they can legally bring them back to market, though they often become banned too, which is extremely common in the supplement/drug market.
Wiki;
"Oxilofrine (also known as methylsynephrine, hydroxyephrine, oxyephrine, and 4-HMP) is a stimulant drug and is an amphetamine chemically related to ephedrine and to synephrine."
"Ephedrine is used for temporary relief of shortness of breath, chest tightness, and wheezing due to bronchial asthma."
Thanks for this.
Reason I asked is that. I'm asthmatic myself and was surprised to see an ephidrene based drug being linked to asthma treatment as I think that it's no longer generally used for that.
Part of that may be a movement to stop its misuse as a party drug, but there's also been different drugs developed. I got intal, becotide and of course ventolin which is salbutamol, the one which the British cycling team appear to be consuming suspicious quan****** of as bn posted above...
Do you honestly believe he didnt know the benefits he was getting by taking this asthma medication.
Nope, I'm betting no boxer can memorise the entire list of banned substances with their complex names. Unless it explicitly states on an inhaler "can enhance performance" they're innocent in my book.
Was the nasal spray designated for asthma sufferers? This is the first time I've seen anything linking this substance to asthma treatment?

Someone didnt look over the fine print close enough and now they are resorting to contaminated nasal spray as an excuse.
I've seen nothing from the Saunders camp indicating that they believe the nasal spray was contaminated? Do you have a source?
I also feel that's entirely unrelated to whether BJS is abusing asthma medication for an advantage.

He was definitely using for an advantage imo.
Asthma medication abuse have been a hot topic in other sports for years. For example, 70% of Norwegian Olympic medals in skiing was won by athletes diagnosed with asthma. It significantly improves your stamina.
Billy Hoe is a cheat.
Well 40% of the british cycling team before the 2004 olympics had asthma. The percentage for for the general population is 7%.
Make of this what you want.

Didn't know that about the Norwegians. Thx for sharing.
It seems that the trend has been toward PEDs the have a built in excuse. Medication, tainted supps and foods, etc. That's why I have a zero tolerance sentiment toward this stuff. Even if I sympathize with the athlete, we can't have these cracks in the system that allow the roaches to crawl through.
I'm genuinely glad she has medication. I'm a supporter of a couple of children's hospitals.
I also feel that's entirely unrelated to whether BJS is abusing asthma medication for an advantage. He did just fail a VADA test. I hope we can have an honest discussion about that.

My little girl has asthma. It's no joke to live with. It's good that there's medication that will allow her to function in the same way people without the disease do.
Sorry to hear that man.
I was diagnosed with asthma as a kid too, was using inhalers until I was 12 or 13, don't remember exactly. Never had an attack though.
Wishing your daughter all the best :boxing:
I mean yes & no. If its on the banned substance list its on the banned substance list. Then again there are a ton of things that are on the banned substance list that people actually use & need for their regular life & they are given or can be given a TUE for.
Without knowing about BJS's health situation I can't say he needs or doesn't need this nasal spray, but that seems like an argument in play for him. Meanwhile Canelo doesn't need what he took (or ingested accidentally) so that is a lil sketchier a situation, although obviously he has an argument for other reasons & why I feel like he only got 6mos (along with the money he brought which I'm too cynical not to bring up).
Its nearly the same situation they are claiming that they both ingested these peds without knowing.
They are both on the banned VADA list so he should suck it up and get ready for all the crap that hes about to be given.
Especially being so outspoken on Canelos dirty.
Do you honestly believe he didnt know the benefits he was getting by taking this asthma medication.
I have to say I don't know much about it and will have to do abit of research but that's just my gut feeling.
Even though I thought Canelo ingested clen from beef, I also felt he got off light and should have been banned for at least a year. If you fail a test, you should be held accountable unless you can prove otherwise. Even if it's by accident or circumstance. That's really the only way to stop people from gaming the system.
With the aid of science these days I believe it's whos isnt on Peds tbh.
These world champions put in the extra miles if they thought they can't get caught why not go the extra supplement.
IDK man I just think that's what it's coming to.
I hope im wrong cause a fight needs to be on level standing to start of at.

Definetely.
My point is that medication is for the sick and not for the healthy which is a point Ingle also makes.
If what your saying is true then he should cop the same 6months ban and heavy fine the same as Canelo.
A ped is a ped is a ped. No two ways to look at it.

"“There are a whole host of other fat-burning drugs and supplements that are perfectly legal in sport up to a certain level"
BJS's team was probably using oxilofrine for a while or other stimulant variants. The trainer is here on record talking about how the loopholes work. That is why the first thing out of their mouths was that oxilofrine was allowed up until fight night. Well that was true for WADA and UK commission testing. Not true for the VADA testing they signed up for. Someone didnt look over the fine print close enough and now they are resorting to contaminated nasal spray as an excuse.
