Thought it would be interesting to delve a little deeper into how media scorecards played out & how the judges seemed to once again give Canelo the benefit of the doubt at every opportunity possible.

If you look at the bottom of the spreadsheet; when rounds can go either way (50% scored for both fighters) the judges always went with Canelo. Even then, judges needed to buck the trend by going against the consensus of GGG winning specific rounds for this to not at least end in another draw. It's the same as in the first fight. Gave Saul the close rounds & only the more dominant rounds are given to Golovkin. Rnd 3 & 5 both got scored for Canelo on all 3 judges even though media was split. Similarly, Rnds 8, 9 & 12 saw at least 2 judges give Saul the nod though media was split & even leaned heavily to Golovkin for the latter two. Conversely, GGG only received one round from one lone judge when the media leaned towards Canelo winning the 7th overall.
No matter which side of the fence you're on, it was a great fight. I give Canelo a lot of respect for facing GGG twice, even with all the controversy. He fought very well & showed real heart in there.
The part I & all GGG fans don't like is that Golovkin doesn't get a fair shake. Just like last time, 75%+ believes GGG won yet he once again doesn't get the nod.
I'll allow you to be judge, but when almost the entirety of press row had GGG edging out the win or at least earning a draw once again, he gets the short end of the stick. We all knew this was coming; that Gennady wouldn't get a fair shake against Canelo & am afraid that this only continues in the future for any foe of the top ppv earners.
I haven't denied or disagreed with any point you made. I am only discussing the Canelo/GGG fight. you are trying to take my points and expand them to the rest of the sport and bring up things that are not relevant to this fight.
Of course I want an even playing field but that hasn't been the reality in big Canelo fights. Now that we know this, any fighter going into a Canelo fight had best not plan to eke out a decision win because they have to know the judges will not give it to him.
So again, its best for a fighter to simply not fight the guy.
Lol ok. You can think that if it makes you feel better. Its clear you are not really for an even playing field in boxing.

I didn't say any of that. Again my comments are only about the mindset I felt GGG and his team had to have coming into the fight.
I am not denying it has happened before, I just don't think those cases are relevant here.

Oh, so no other fighters in history had the benefit of being the star fighter. So I guess Pernell Whitaker really wasnt good enough to beat Chavez and most definitely not good enough to beat Oscar either.
Ok

I'm only discussing this fight. Other house fighters records are not relevant. You are trying to take what I'm saying about this fight and apply it to all of boxing and that doesn't work. It's only about GGG and Canelo.
IMO GGG needed a different strategy knowing what we know about how judges score major Canelo fights. Unless he went out and completely dominated like Raheem/Morales where Raheem's lack of power is the only reason Morales wasn't in a coma, there was no way he was getting a UD win.

Ok
You can spin it any way you you like, but in a fight that could and probably should have been a draw, 2 rounds going against the grain of the consensus to the same guy was all it took to give that same guy another result of which the concensus feeling is .. he didn't really deserve it.
And could it have gone the other way ... really?
Did GGG really have the same chance as Canelo of winning a fight as close as that?
He should have. But many people - including me - don't believe he did, and that's what leaves a sour taste in the mouth. boxing is about fairness and keeping things on an even keel and golovkin did deserve to keep his titles and in my opinion he won a close decision.
On the other hand kaffas is that golovkin knew the situation he was going into.
He knew it was vegas and he signed to fight on mexican independence day against a mexican fighter who was also promoted by the lead promoter of this event.
Golovkin maybe thought he had the hearts of the mexican people but they dont pull the purse strings.
Yes its corrupt and it leaves a bad taste in our mouth but golovkin held all the cards with this fight.
Canelo was on a ban, he was stripped from his ranking and Golovkin and his team could have stood there ground and insisted this fight took place away from vegas and at his chosen venue of MSG.
canelo could not have dictated anything because he was on a ban and unranked.
So in a way golovkin held out for a bigger percentage but he also risked that by fighting at canelos party and when the dust settled that is what happened.
a close decision went to the home fighter.
I wrote to AJ about exactly the same thing with facing wilder in vegas and said to him 50 million is not a lot when you get screwed out of your world titles.
I saw that 1st hand when lewis faced holyfield in 1999 and holyfield got that gift draw in the states in there 1st fight.
Lots of fighters in history have been the house fighter. Lets not act like this is new.

Again, I'm speaking only about GGG going into this fight with Canelo. Not every fighter has Canelo's history so you can't take what I'm posting about this fight and apply it to other fighters.

So knowing that the judges cater to a particular fighter in any bout, how do we take these records of fighters seriously?

Take the fight but understand what it's really going to take to win the fight. Don't lie to yourself.

So as I said before, he should not take the fight, right?

I am not saying it's right or fair. just pointing out that those that forget history are doomed to repeat it.
GGG had all the evidence he needed to realize he wasn't going to get a UD win. If you watch the best fighter of a generation, an American, win all 12 rounds against Canelo and one scorecard read 114-114, then you already know the deal.
GGG appeared to decide to box rather than come forward and go for the KO. however unfair that reality is, the minute he decided to do that he conceded the fight IMO.
So as I said before, he should not take the fight, right?
It doesnt matter what a strategy is, the rules to win are clearly defined.
However, the reality is that the rules also vary on a fight to fight basis. “This is boxing not knockouts”. So why should any fighter need the mindset that they can only win by ko?
Thats not an even playing field which is what so many posters have been advocating from 2010 to 2015.

I'm saying that if GGG's team strategy was to try and box to win then that was foolish given what we've seen in big Canelo fights in Vegas. His team should've had the mindset that "we can't win by decision, we must win by KO or TKO".

I was talking about G too. So you’re saying that the rules vary depending on who is fighting. Because that is the reality.

No, i'm not talking about fans. I'm talking only about GGG and how he approached this fight. If you're plan was to try an outbox Canelo to a win, that was foolish IMO given what we've seen when Canelo is in with top tier talent in Las Vegas.

No. That said, if you are GGG and his team you need only look at history to tell you what was going to happen if you didn't KO Canelo in Vegas.
Floyd-MD when he won all 12 rds. GGG draw when he arguably won 8 rds in the 1st fight. Lara-controversial SD.
Knowing all this if you accept a fight with Canelo in Vegas you have to know if you don't KO him the cards are not going to be in your favor.
So then you’re saying people should not accept the fight?
So you’re good with the corruption in boxing?

Some of us are very stubborn!
Yes, I hear ya. As GGG said, he learned from the first fight what the Boxing business is really all about. He's only going to become more resentful of the system, his efforts go unrewarded.
He needed to do more to win against this opponent, I get that. He did enough to deserve keeping his belts though.
I don't think he needed to do more. I think a case can be made he won 8 rounds. He was never going to get 7 rounds on more than 1 judges scorecard.
If Floyd only got a MD after winning all 12 rounds GGG and his team needed to realize its KO or loss.
