Yet another big US fight, this time living up to its billing, this time both men delivered, this time it rocked back and forth...all of it spoiled by 3 American judges, at the most corrupt sporting city on the planet, in a nation where the sport is being slowly but surely digested by corporations.
A crying shame because GGG deserved his great night and Canelo deserved to go out a worthy loser and get ready for a third fight.
As I said before, the sport should no longer take place in the US. I can not think of a single clean, big PPV fight in America for the last couple years.
Abysmal.

i didn't say he has. i'm saying i believe that'll be the case in the event of a close fight in the UK. maybe i'll be wrong. My point wasn't to target AJ, it was merely pointing out that we watch fights, knowing who's almost certainly going to get the decision in a close fight. i just used him an example of a huge draw that i anticipate will get the decision in any close fight when it happens.
my point was that we shouldn't even be having these thoughts and expectations before the fight happens, but that's the way the sport has made us think, which is a shame.
Unless it happens to AJ lets stay away from hypotheticals.
We've had some huge fights in the UK and rest of europe in recent times and I can't remember a single incident like GGG.Canelo or Ward/Kovalev.
So lets tsop this "oh its the whole of boxing", it is not. Theb iggest fights in the US are the worst officiated on the planet. It needs to be fixed.
Such a stupid thread. Neither fighter is American. All of the most respected American writers had the fight a draw. Six rounds to six. The fight was very close. I personally had GGG winning 8-4, but there were so many close rounds that when all the top writers have it 6-6, how can you complain when two judges have it 7-5 Canelo? In close fights, people will disagree. The judges did a good job.
So what if they aren't American? Did I say Canelo was American?
Ok, name me the 10 respected American writers who had the fight a draw. I'll be waiting.
No doubt.
Then again, it's also understandable why wilder won't take a flat fee with no upside, only to have all those things working against him too. All these things add to reasons why big fights are hard to make.
it's all so blatant too and makes me less interested in certain fights and why i've resorted to streaming fights and stop funding the nonsense.
Yeah man, I aint watching no Canelo circus shows anymore. **** a 3rd fight. They just gunna keep on going til Golovkin cant make it through 12 rounds anymore?
Joshua would get a close decision in the UK for sure. But last night was a perfect example of why not to take that $50mil. Golovkin sold his soul, he knew what he was getting into, had the BJS fight there for all the titles, he went for the money. Fury will end up getting the same treatment if it goes to points.
No doubt.

Has AJ ever been protected? I don't think so. And as I posted previously, in recent times there isnt any major controversy in any of the major fights that the UK has staged.
The Wlad fight is a horrible example and AJ won by a clear stoppage.

I was lucky enough to write about and at times score many fights throughout my time working in sport and controversial (read unfair) decisions are as old as time. However, I must agree, the situation seems to have worsened in the US over the last several years. TV networks have more say in the decision making mow more than ever, logically they will have a star they want to back, as do promoters, so judges can be bought and sold more openly now. I saw it happen in Vegas back in the 80s, now it just happens on a larger scale.
The worst part is that the young man Canelo, who should have been applauded for his bravery and skill against a great master, is now mired in this controversy, yet again.
Excellent post.
There are a number of factors at work. its important to have educated boxing fans and history sections so that when our kids are debating these fights and somoene pipes up "Canelo beat GGG, not once but twice!" there is someone to go into some detail about the fight and the scoring. More than ever a fighter should not be judged on his record these days and this goes for some excellent journeymen as well, people like Glen Johnson for example.
It is the scoring... the systems are such how does one even see the punches land? when there is no time to review? Why not have six judges and they alternate rounds so more time can be spent on looking at the rounds, just one suggestion.
Its the lack of those last 3 rounds, that mean so much in showing a conclusion...the championship rounds, 13 14 and 15. This gives the puncher a few more chances, it gives the judges a few more rounds, and it tests the make up of the fighters, that little bit more... It is one more chance to take the conclusion out of the judge's hands.
And it is the economics. handsome, matinee idol looking kid, versus Russian guy who is a fighters fighter... They want the female market lol, wives used to let the menfolk watch with no objections when oscar was fighting...my wife would be "who is that handsome one?" Saul has that market cornered!
indeed. And he even got that 114-114 v Floyd.
Canelo has to be the most protected fighter i've seen when it comes to judging. Even Floyd's fights were generally near enough scored correctly, despite him being the money man in boxing.
That said, i'm not sure things would be different in the UK for someone like AJ. if Povetkin somehow beat him like 8-4 or 7-5, do you think Povetkin would get a decision over the cash cow? i doubt it, but who knows.
it's a business and the money will always be protected.
A lot of people had wlad up v AJ at the time of the knockout, but the judges didn't.

All that spoiled by judging so bad you wonder if someone other than Mayweather can ever get a decision against him.

always feel like im attacking the americans on here but i always find it laughable when they start complaining about UK decisions or make a massive fuss about a fight being held in eastern europe cause of corruption. american boxing is as corrupt as it gets, some of the scorecards and refereeing performances have been nothing short of disgraceful. im not saying the UK is great but those in glasshouses shouldnt throw stones.
The US is the single most corrupt sporting market on the planet, boxing is probably worse off than the NFL, NBA and MLB. It will stay this way till someone in a place of power decides to show some integrity.
Yer and you know the two UK fights that you skipped do you really need me to mention them or are you an AJ fan?
stop chatting **** and post what you want to post
Ok mention the fights I skipped. There are maybe 2 UK ppvs I skipped because they were mismatches or poor.
I missed the entire CW and SMW tournaments which did not have any such robberies.
I'll be waiting for your response.

Thanks for the laugh bruz.
You odviously fail to mention the fights that dont fit your agenda.
Once again though thanks for the lol.

Ok, looking roughly at the last 2 years of American PPVs -
Nov 19 2016 - Ward v Kovalev 1, fights ends in a very controversial decision for Ward. The crowd booes, the vast majority of the press has it for Kovalev. Regardless of who YOU think won, it was controversial. HBO try and put a spin on it months later by claiming Ward somehow turned the fight around.
Mar 18 2016 - GGG v Jacobs, most watching felt GGG won quite clearly, yet not only do the judges have it somewhat close, HBO tries to steer the conversation towards how Jacobs should have won the fight. That narrative is still played to this day.
May 6 2017 - Canelo v Chavez Jr, fair.
June 17 2017 - Ward v Kovalev 2, Kovalev is taken down by multiple low blows, something the ref had initially warned Ward for but by the time the stoppage occurs, the ref is waving off complaints and even laughing. Regardless of one thinking the punches were low or not, stopping a champion, who had just suffered his first KD is incompetent at best, corrupt at worst.
Aug 26 2017 - Mayweather v McGregor - joke
Sep 16 2017 - GGG v Canelo 1, a hugely controversial draw, with the vast majority claiming GGG won and won clearly. This time, even the Mexican fans boo Canelo. Regardless of who YOU thought won, it was branded controversial by all. One judge never judges again.
Should I mention the rematch?
UK PPV in roughly the same time period -
September 10 2016 - GGG v Kell Brook, the only controversy is Brooks heart.
4 Mar 2017 - Bellew v Haye, even with Hayei njured, as former champ and possible future contender, he is allowed to ocntinue and the fight is exceptional. Full of heart and grit. The crowd is on their feet and Haye almost looks to be coming on before he is finally stopped. No controversy.
27 May 2017 - Brook v Spence, Brook looks to be winning on points before the KD came in. The AWAY fighter is ahead on the cards before the stoppage. The judges are not all Brits.
2017-2018 - AJ v Takam/Parker, the only point of contention is Takam stoppage but even then, AJ was coming on strong. I personally believe it was an early stoppage but clear to see who was winning.
2018 - Haye v Bellew 2, no controversy. Whyte v Parker, no controversy albeit close at times.
So the UK has had a larger collection of PPV in that time and at most, 1 controversial decision. The US has had 5 out of 7 being debatable if not outright corrupt decisions.
I could start bringing up the SMW and CW tournament fought across Europe if you like? Not a single remotely controversial decision in there. That makes things look even worse for American boxing.
Thanks for the laugh bruz.

American money only comes with the PPV and it's more about timing than location.
You need a promoter who will back in though.
The Vegas judges always go for the money man, the people that pay their wages.
Very little oversight, training and new blood.
But just as bad in many places over the world.
Look at my previous post, it's not as bad else hwere.

I'm not even going to argue the fact with you cause its a stupid comment.
