How highly would you rate a convincing victory over Canelo should GGG win the rematch? Would GGG's stock rise or stay the same for you?
I get the feeling that the excuses are already lined up if Canelo fails against GGG. We'll have to see.
A Canelo win cements his HOF place. It'll be the best name on his resume and you can't say anything about Canelo's condition or experience - he's the best he'll ever be.
The eye did not take take Brook out of the fight. His trainer knew all about the eye and they let him come out for the round. The trainer stopped the fight in the middle of the round because GGG was a punch or two away from knocking Brook out. If it was the eye you evaluate it between rounds instead of stopping it in mid round to save your boxer from a certain KO. You make it sound like Brook might have won without the eye injury but Brook was done and was certain to get KOed eye or no eye. So he had close fights with Jacobs and Canelo. So the fuk what? Jacobs and Canelo are excellent fighters and no middleweight should be expected to beat them with ease. The great middleweights of the past like Robinson, Hagler and Hopkins all had close fights and loses. Now GGG has two close fights with two outstanding middleweights and you try to turn him into an average champion. He will be a first ballot hall of fame boxer much to your disapproval I'm sure.
The trainer threw the towel in because he could see that Brook no longer had clear enough vision to have a chance in the fight; sit and watch the final round of that fight and you can clearly see that Golovkin didn't really land any real shots to end the didn't, while Brook was only able to slip basically everything due to his spacial awareness with his back against the ropes. Golovkin had size, but Golovkin couldn't do hardly **** with Brook when Brook forced him to move his feet.
I like Alvarez and Jacobs, but if you want to call them great fighters, that's on you.
In his entire career, Golovkin has fought maybe a handful of fighters who could actually fight: 154lbs Kassin Ouma, Daniel Geale, 147lb Kell Brook, Daniel Jacobs, and Saul Alvarez. You might be able to count 154lb Gabe Rosado and almost man Martin Murray, but that'd be pushing it.
Let's see how many folks are even thinking about Golovkin 5 years after he hangs up the gloves.
Best of his era, but it was a weak era at middleweight. For legacy he should have fought Ward, for money he made the right moves holding out for the Canelo paydays.
If he were to beat Alvarez close, he would've fought Brook even (before the eye took him out of the fight), fought Jacobs close, and just fought Alvarez close in their first fight.
An A+ can crusher, but when put in with anyone who could actually fight, he ends up being just alright. The eye did not take take Brook out of the fight. Will depend on how he looks
If he were to beat Alvarez close, he would've fought Brook even (before the eye took him out of the fight), fought Jacobs close, and just fought Alvarez close in their first fight.

If he knocks him out they’ll say he would’ve lost if it went the distance because he isnt a good boxer or would gas out.
If he gets the UD and it is not 1000% obvious than canelo would be cheated.
The majority decision would cause melt down.
No winning with the clens
Nah, he'll be ducking Charlo who'd destroy him. Or something like that. Canelo will be a bum or will have been cheated in some way whether it's judges (even if it's a 12-0 ggg type fight) or by not being allowed to cheat.
If he does win he is top 3 P4P and HOFer no question. The same goes for Canelo if he wins. I just hope there won't be any excuses from the fans of the losing fighter. The winner will deserve all the credit in the world in my opinion.
Those who have been on the fence with him will show him a lil more love, those who hate him will complain about him not fighting Ward despite the fact they weren't in the same division and the other fighter in question admitted he couldn't even get down to 168 at that point. There is a grey area between where people just won't care.
He’d be a HOF with a signature win.
No one can dispute it..hes already a HOFer.
Bigger question is how much credit Canelo would get.
“Old”
“Shoulda fought years ago.”
Etc etc.
I dunno, he's already beaten Canelo in my eyes. so it'd depend on the matter he beat him. If it's a similar fight with a fair decision, it'll be a case of justice served. His stock won't go up unless he stops him or almost shuts him out.
I guess GGG fans will say beating Canelo makes you truly elite, seeing as only Floyd has and Canelo is rated right up there today.
And i'd say anyone that wants to dismiss the win will say Canelo isn't great, arguably lost to Lara and had only beaten guys like Khan, smith and Chavez in recent times and has never beaten an elite fighter.
I'll have it down as a very good win due to the general consensus being that Canelo is a top level fighter. Although i think GGG won the first, i think both are top notch fighters. I just think GGG's constant pressure is too much for Canelo in a head to head fight, but it doesn't mean Canelo isn't elite in his own right.
