I've been hearing talks lately of how Wilder is being compared to Joe Louis because of them sharing similar nicknames("Bronze Bomber" and "Brown Bomber") and how Wilder is claiming that he can knock out a prime Joe Louis, despite still being untested as a champion of only 1 of the 4 major alphabet world title belts(WBC).
Not saying that Wilder is a bad fighter/boxer but I still find it laughable for him to make such claims when he still hasn't been fully tested yet as a world class boxer(having not yet either faced AJ or Fury). Plus, Joe Louis in his prime, was KOing a few guys who were about the same exact size as Deontay Wilder(Primo Carnera, etc.).
It’s not that Wilder hasn’t wanted to fight the best, we now see how avoided he truly is. Most promoters won’t let the fighter & face that kind of danger. I view Wilder as the hardest 1-punch heavyweight ever. And yes, I grew up watching Mike Tyson.
^I wouldn't know about that. I can't see how he'll face tougher competition than Louis did.
I think going undefeated at hw is a huge accomplishment in itself and imagine beating marciano and Floyd’s record while he’s at it. Fury and Joshua would solidify his competition.
It is a little early and I also never heard anyone comparing him to joe Louis but with that said when his career is done he will be above Louis on the goat list.

It's a totally different era. But Louis accomplished a lot more than Wilder ever will.
It's sad that the IRS screwed Joe as badly as they did. Being from the Detroit area, I know firsthand how much of a legend the man was. He deserved better than that.

Joe Louis was much better in my opinion. Guys Louis beat like Schmeling, Walcott and Charles would beat Wilder in my opinion. Louis would never let Stiverne go 12 rounds with him. Louis would never need 9 rounds to beat Molina and would KO Molina in a round or two. Louis would never need 11 rounds to KO Duhaupas and would also KO him in 4 rounds or less. Louis KOed Carnera, 6 foot 6 inches 260 pounds of lean muscle and Buddy Baer, 6 foot 6 inches 250 lean pounds. He defended the heavyweight world title successfully a record 25 times.Louis is generally considered on of the 2 or 3 greatest heavyweights of all time. That doesn't mean you have to agree with that but I do.

Do you think Deontay Wilder is even worthy of being compared to Joe Louis yet? | BoxingScene Community
