Not trying to take away nothing from Alvarez's victory, just wondering what your guys's thoughts are?
He looked slower, was breathing heavy out of his mouth after like the 3rd round, and didn't seem to take Alvarez's shots well even before the KO. The parallel isn't too strong, but this fight reminded me a bit of Robert Guerrero against Figueroa.
He looked like sht before the fight even started, literally upon seeing his body a second before the bell rang. People seriously didnt notice how skinny/soft he looked and how lethargic he was fighting?
Bums the lot of you.
I wouldn't say shot just yet. However he is definitely on the decline and showing all the early signs of a shot fighter like: Loss of stamina, reflexes, the normal snap on his punches etc.in other words, yeah, he’s shot. Hurts to say that, because as a fan, I wanted to see him get his due after the first Ward fight, but sadly, he is now finished at the top level.
Not shot to bits but his time is up at the real top level now.
He could still beat some decent fighters right now but the decline has definitely set in. He will be a gatekeeper in a couple of years if he's still fighting.
A monkey can see he was done in that fight. In the first 2 rds he was plodding forward and not throwing any combos. The old kovalev was bouncing around the ring in angles and thirowing non stop combos. Pascal 1 and 2. This kovalev just stands in front of you hands down waiting to get hit.
Getting hit on the dick numerous times messed up his punch resistance. True fact, ask our very own doctor here on this forum. Then he needs to visit an urologist :lol1:

Basically yes.
The "Kovalev" that people once thought of -- imperfect but very dangerous fighter, and possibly the best in his division -- is way shot. Done.
Look, 35 ain't a nice age to be a fighter unless you're extremely elusive. And rarely even then.
He's not shot, but age catches up to anyone. He was still leading the fight until a huge punch changed the tide, and Kovalev's mistake was to get back up wobbly and keep on fighting and trading, instead of clinching and going into defense to survive the round, an recompose, so of course he ate more shots and got dropped again. The second knockdown was really the one that finished it.
But of course while he is past his prime, I do think if he is focused mentally, he still has a shot at winning a rematch.
Idk bro. I think his chin has been dented enough that he will potentially get wobbled on any big shot. Kinda reminds me of Cody Garbrandt over the weekend in that the chins look like they may damaged beyond repair.
He isn't shot, but he is definitely diminished.
Post-Ward, he just isn't taking shots the same way.
He can still win fights, just not much of a chance against the top of the division.
No, he's not shot but he's on the decline. IMO, he should take the rematch asap. Beating Alvarez isn't going to get any easier and if he doesn't take the rematch, what worthwhile fight is there for him?
