In a very stunning performance, Eleider Alvarez shocked Sergey Kovalev on Saturday night, knocking him down three times in the seventh round to capture the World Boxing Organization light heavyweight title in front of a crowd of 5,600 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This is not news. Cryvalev has faded down the stretch “consistently” over his career because he is an undisciplined fighter. And is arrogant. He thought he could go into fights intimidating his opponents and overpower them and stopped honing his boxing skills. He wasn’t a greatly conditioned athlete either. So when he finally got into the ring with someone that wasn’t 49 years old and could fight, he got exposed; simple as that.
Alvarez has a damn good chin. There was a right hand he ate in I believe the 4th round that would've KO'd a lot of other guys and he just kept boxing. I hope we can get Bivol vs Alvarez at some point in the next year
Both guys landed good bodyshots, but Alvarez’s jab really punished and slowed down kovolev in the 5,6, rounds. I think the jab was the most effective weapon last night, as Kovalev had his head snapped back on a few occasions and walked into some while attacking, kinda neutralizing his assault at times
And kovolev’s style of throwing hard shots does have a tiring effect, he throws a lot, golovkin throws hard shots, but is much more calm and cerebral abou it
I just watched the fight again. Alvarez threw that punch like 9 times before he caught Kovalev. He caught him with it good at the very end of the 4th but it didn't have an effect. The first KD punch caught him best. He also landed 2 vicious uppercuts after the first KD. He hadn't thrown any uppercuts the entire fight before that but it helped speed Kovalev's devise. The second KD was from a vicious left followed up by a right. He was catching Kovalev with the left jabs and a hibrid left jab the whole fight. Alvarez is a really good fighter but Kovalev was a perfect opponent for him because of his aggressiveness.
Wait a minute, let’s blame his new trainer for this disaster. He could not readjust to Alvarez, which left kitty Kovelez with no answers. His new trainer is trash.
Alvarez didn't say that it was a 2-punch knockout.
He said that he had been working on landing punches with his two knuckles.
But HBO's Spanish interpreter sucks ass and has trouble keeping up with the fighter's train of thought.
Exactly right.... God, i hate that guy. He does a terrible jobs.
Enjoyed this beat down. All that dirty racist talk and that "if he dies he dies", comment stuck with me. Ward knocked this idiot back into reality and Alvarez nailed the coffin.
