Matthysse beat a guy boxrec ranked 100th to win the title. He should not be a world champion for that win.
He wasn't ranked 100th by the WBA and that's what counts.
Just a little manuevering so that Crawford will become unified champ by beating Horn, Pac or Matthysse. Relatively an easy path, so when its time to negotiate w/ Haymon for the other fight (spence or thurman) He will be in a better position, with more leverage and a unified champ.:burnout:
Might be a blessing, he comes back and get big fights vs the Winner of Pacquiao vs Matthysse or Danny Garcia vs Shaw Porter whenever he wants:dunno:
If he signs with DAZN which has been rumored, then good luck to him maybe he gets a Amir Khan and/or Kell Brook fight :dunno:
Just hope he gets back to 100% and get active again, having Thurman back makes the Division EVEN BETTER IMO!
I guess you have a very narrow definition of elite then. Most people had Thurman top 10 p4p when he was unified champ.
Elite is a very narrow category my man. Not many fighters get to reach that Title. Thurman’s no push over but I never had him P4p and actually been on record saying it was ridiculous that he ever received that honor
Beating Porter and Garcia does not make you elite. Hell it isnt like he dominated them. Thurman’s not elite. He’s by no means a bum, but he’s decent at best

Me either. I could kinda understand it when he was KO'ing bums. But once he stepped up a notch above he seemed ok, nothing special. And everything he throws is so wide
All straight facts
He beat Porter and Garcia. I think that should count for something. Of course he's an elite fighter.

I like Thurman but he changed, wtf happened to this dude he used to go out there saying I aint like those dudes holding that 0, I dont care about my 0, and one time this and that, then he started boxing cautious and going to decisions rather than going for the KO and then started saying we need to fight a tune up and this and that.
Right now I say the top Welterweights are Crawford, Spence
This exactly
?!?!?!
Thurman didn't suddenly become a worse fighter, it is that he finally fought elite competition.
Crawford has yet to do that. So, honestly, Thurman could have continued ko'ing the bum of the month and be considered a beast, but since he decided to take on elite opponents he is suddenly average.
People wonder why the best don't fight the best more in boxing. It is because of this. If you ko a cab driver you are p4p. If you win a close fight against another elite fighter, you are just average.
Look at Broner. He fought bums and was on p4p lists. Then he stepped up and fought elite opponents and lost.
As long as fans keep saying how great a fighter is for ko'ing tomato cans and complaining how "average" fighters who beat top opposition are, then of course we get blatant mismatches. What incentive do fans give fighters to fight the best??? Fight the best and if you win, but its close, you are average and off p4p lists. But if you never fight anyone good, and look like Superman while facing the local Uber driver, fans proclaim you as a top p4p fighter in the sport!
Put Thurman in with Horn and Indongo, and I bet he suddenly becomes elite again.
Dr. Cool is P4P #1! You tell 'em how it is bro...
yeah he used to be a beast but i think when he stepped up in comp, that's when he became average.

it going to be a long road till we see thurman in a legit fight again he will be fighting average opposition and likely won't be facing anyone top 3 fighter till around late 2019
welterweight division has been on hold for too long just make the big fights already ffs
What happened to Thurman happens to a lot of fighters. When reaching the top, he was hungry. Once he got there he became a businessman. He got spoiled by the money. When the well runs dry, he will be back, just like how Peter Quillin is coming back.
That is exactly what happened. He made money, now is content.
I told everyone this was going to happen weeks ago!!!!!
My goodness, all you idiots must really be blind. The writing was on the wall and incredibly clear. Thurman hasn't fought in 16 months and has nothing scheduled. Somehow Matthysse has a regular "title" and somehow Pac is the #1 ranked contender.
Everyone could have just listened to me and known this was going to happen weeks ago. But now, idiots want to act surprised. I should get a 100 points added to my rep for telling everyone what was going to happen weeks ago. When apparently no one else knew the obvious.

I never been high on Thurman. I don’t know what the hoopla was about him. Especially on here. Some Having him top 10 p4p. Ridiculous to me

If this is true, LMAO Keith Thurmans dude dropped the wrong belt now he got no mo belts, dude was sitting out waiting for fights man, wtf?
I dont know what happened to One Time saying he wanted to go for the KO, this dude said in an interview several years ago that he was like Pacquiao that he didn't care about no loses and said you want it take it, now this guy over here protecting his 0 and talking about marinating fights.
Of course they gonna strip you, dude hasn't defend his belt in a while.
