I've never understood the hate this guy gets on boxing forums. Was he overrated? Was he arrogant? Was he humbled by Barrera? IMHO no, but even if all that was true....I cant think of anyone who was more entertaining in and out of the ring in the history of boxing. EVER.
Must be the same people that find Broner entertaining? He was a show boater & a front runner, the one we loved to hate. As others have said, he was exposed & never even attempted to come back from it. Great power, has some decent names on his resume but missing some key ones like Marquez & Morales. One of the LEAST entertaining fighters to me cause how he acted in the ring, has no place in a sport that should be respecting your opponent. Go watch WWE or some other crap. I'd like to say absolute fraud but he definitely had skill, just that he retired at 28 & left so much on the table by not facing so many that were coming on.
He was extremely talented. Maybe the most naturally gifted UK fighter of the last 30 years. But he was never a great fighter, and his technique was horribly exposed by the first top class opponent he faced. He then quit and never had the heart to get back to the top like the great fighters do.
As well as being a massive c*nt.
He was a very entertainig fighter in the ring. But the boxer in your av and sig was THE most entertaining SPORTSMAN ever!
Unless you lived in the sixties and especially the seventies - you will never fully appreciate that. Just do your own investigation on Youtube.
Not sure how many books have been written about Ali and Hamed but I'd wager that probably at least 20 times more books have been written about Ali.
You gotta be an idiot to believe one fighter alone can carry the whole sport.
How many times a year did he actually fight when he stepped up in competition?
Twice, once? A year has 12 months (365 days.)
Another one of those stupid threads.
So there haven't been any other entertaining fighters since 2002? What?? And why do you have over 4,000 posts on a forum dedicated to a sport that you think is "boring"?
He was good and he was interesting. I thought Barrera was better and more interesting. Year after year I find excellent exciting boxers to keep me very entertained and right now is no different. GGG, Spence, Crawford, Inoue, Bivol, Beterbiev,Loma, Davis, Hurd, Ursk and many others keep me looking forward to their next fight.
