The relationship that boxing fans have with marinating is a funny one.
Loma vs Tank is a perfect example. Loma's fans say it should've happened years ago. Tanks fans say he needs more experience and to build it to something bigger.
Juanma vs Gamboa was a case of marinating gone wrong.
Khan vs Brook is marinating overkill.
Now we have Spence vs Crawford.
Arum is in full blown marinate mode (500K PPV?) and Spence and Bud are saying similar things about waiting until its bigger
some fans agree others say fck that make it happen this year
how do you feel about marinate in general?
and do you want to see the Bud/Spence fight this year or wait until both guys build a strong resume and then clash in 1-2 years?
negotiation is between 2 groups.
does it matter? !!!!
Not any more. The only thing that matters is the staller gives his save a hoes enough solid excuses to vindicate him in the court of public opinion and perception.
Marinating a big fight is one thing, overcooking it to the point that it ain't tender anymore is another.
Looks like all these prime welters will have lost a step or two before the fights happen, and the Floyd Boys can look at their Boy for how current boxing politricks go down.
As a boxing fan and in a perfect world, I would prefer a rivalry similar to vasquez/rafa or castillo/corrales. Too many things can happen when attempting to marinate a fight.
I would make it NEXT if it was up to me :dunno: but don't blame the "FANS" want to Marinate ARUM that wants it to Marinate and want to make sure it can sell 500K PPV Buys at least. Arum job is the make himself and his fighters the most $$$ Possible it is not about just giving the fans what they want. Somebody have to pay for all of this and if it is a big fight then guest what Crawford and Spence Jr will have to be PAID Accordingly!
I wish they would fight each other next. I think the are the two best welterweights in the world and both are in their prime. Why wait? Settle who is number 1 right now. They are many years old than Leonard and Hearns were when they fought the first time. Crawford is 30 and that's the age when many boxers are just starting to decline physically.
so once again, random testing WAS floyd's demand, 14 days WAS floyd's demand. lol. negotiation is between 2 groups. thanks for proving my point.
Floyd's demand was to use more stringent testing in which USADA had ZERO cutoff dates for RANDOM blood test.
ARE YOU DUMB OR JUST STUPID?
so floyd calls himself the a side? lol. see what i mean by one guy making demands only lol.
Did it matter? Floyd felt he was the ASIDE in the negotiations yet he offered a 50/50 split.
What's is GGG split by the way? How about AJ?
If Spence and Crawford fought do you think ARUM agrees to a 50/50?
Lol.
Face it Manny ducked the test.
is that what manny wanted? or is that what floyd is offering to him?
Funny you should ask : Manny (as per ARUM) wanted 3 blood test.
1. Start of training camp
2. 30 days pre fight
3. After the fight
Lol. That's random blood test?
But Team Manny stated a 30 day cutoff.
The entire world knows there are no cut off dates.
Yet Floyd agreed to 14 days.
Met him half way yet Manny walked away from 40mil + PPV in 2010!
“Marinating” the fight isn’t a problem if they are fighting the other top guys in their division. It would also be nice if the alphabet groups didn’t force such overmatched mando’s but that’s life
They both deserve at least 10 million for this fight. Their, skills, ability, and mental fortitude say as such. By this time next year or the end of the year this fight should be made with all the belts on the line.
I think Spence and Crawford still have a lot to prove. They could go through Garcia and Porter first at the very least.
If Crawford and Spence pick up a win over either of those 2 then we need to start seeing Crawford, Spence, and Thurman mixing it up with each other.
If Crawford and Spence keep fighting Campos and Horns they should just get this fight on now.
I give Thurman the benefit of the doubt with his injury, so I think judgment should be reserved for when he has returned.
Crawford, Spence, Thurman need to be mixing it up in the next 2-4 years though. If they aren't, they need to be fighting top opposition.
a negotiation involves 2 groups working things out. not just one guy making demands then saying "take it or leave it".
1. For months Floyd publicly stated he was the Aside and deserved a 60-40 split - 50/50 concession was offered. Can't say that about GGG CANELO or WILDER AJ.
2. There are still no cut off dates allowed with VADA/USADA or any other ADO that I am aware of in 2018 - yet a 14 day cut off date was another concession offered.
Do you not see this?
I'm still amazed @ posters still claiming Floyd ducked Manny after
1. Manny refused the same test he eventually took. The same test is now EXPECTED and the NORM.
2. Floyd offered a 50/50 - despite being the A Side - agreed to an absurd weight penalty and even threw in an unheard of 14 day cutoff date for blood testing to appease Mannys blood phobia.
Considering all this recent 50/50 posturing from wilder aj canelo ggg - I would think people will have more respect for Floyd agreeing to 50/50.
Imagine if Wilder or AJ walked away from a guaranteed 75-100 million dollar payday over drug testing in 2018.
Marinating serves two purposes--ducking or actually waiting until each fighter has a strong enough fan base to generate interest in a big showdown.
In the case of May/Pac, Floyd was clearly ducking, yet used the term "marinate" to somehow suggest he was a genius for marinating their fight for five years, but we all know it was ducking until Pac slowed down a beat or two.
In the case of Spence/Crawford (or Joshua/Wilder) I think it makes sense to build up interest in these fights to make them bigger events. May and Pac were already household names and superstars in their own right when Floyd insisted on "marinating", it just wasn't necessary.
I would like to see either Spence or Crawford unify the division for one undisputed champion. Something tells me Spence may move on to 154 before that happens. Hopefully Spence and Crawford will be able to get some quality opponents until they meet. I would like to see Spence get the winner or Garcia/Porter, but I doubt either of them want it.
The problem is you have 3/4 of the belts tied to Al Haymon / Showtime. Spence will likely fight Danny vs Porter winner early next year. Who know when Thurman's coming back and or against a top level opponent. Crawford I feel is going to have a tough time finding solid opposition.
Here's what I propose:
Spence vs Porter vs Garcia winner
Thurman vs Crawford winner
Both winners fight each other.
But if we're going by a timeline that won't be happening any sooner than Fall '19 / Spring '20. Will Spence still be making 147 by then? Kinda doubtful.
Fans before pac-floyd: floyd is ducking pac for 5 years
Fans after pac-floyd: what a smart thing floyd did! He’s been marinating it for 5 years! See the results!! 500m!
I say give crawford-spence a year.
I understand both sides of the argument but as a boxing fan I want to see the fight ASAP. I'm well aware of the business side of the sport but I'm not either guys promoter and won't benefit from letting it marinate.
