boxingtalk has been informed that undefeated WBA and IBF cruiserweight champion Murat Gassiev, 26-0 (19), will now likely face Andrew Tabiti, 16-0 (13) on July 21st in Russia. Gassiev was slated to face undefeated WBO and WBC champion Oleksandr Usyk in the World Boxing Super Series final to unify the division, but negotiations have hit a serious snag and as of now Gassiev-Tabiti is far more likely. It seems a strong case its in jeopardy then but that website still has Saunders to meet Murray as latest news
I only looked for some other "source" to state the same... while Google search for "News" returned no link... :)

"RUMOUR - WBSS Cruiserweight Final In Jeopardy!
IntuBoxing has learned that WBC & WBO cruiserweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk (14-0,11KO) may not have recovered sufficiently from the elbow injury he suffered earlier in the year, rendering him unable to compete in the World Boxing Super Series final, slated for July 21st in Sochi, Russia. There is also talk that negotiations from the Ukranian’s team have hit a snag. Either, or it seems unlikely Usyk will compete.
Instead it is rumoured that Andrew Tabiti (16-0,13KO) will instead take on WBA & IBF champion, Murat Gassiev (26-0,19KO)."

Host it in USA so I can go. I understand though it'll probably bomb =/
Sucks because Usyk and Gassiev are two very respectful and likable fighters. I think I'm a slightly bigger Gassiev fan at this point, even though I have Usyk pegged as the slight favorite of a fight between the two.
They need to find a way to make this fight. If there is no way to do it then Briedis HAS to be the guy to fight Gassiev. Why does Tabiti all the sudden get the call? Briedis just about fought Usyk to a draw and KTFO the HW champion of the world. If they pick Tabiti, Briedis should get to fight Kalle
Just how big do we think Kalle's coke debt is, anyway? Maybe there's only one way to pay for the mountain of powder that's gone up that man's nose?

Neutral territory, why is that so hard for boxing morons to understand?
Boxing fans prefer neutral territory, people who want their guy to win want it on their home turf (I wonder why, it's almost as if boxing is notorious for being the most corrupt sport)
Lol, no "almost" about it, I'm afraid.

Yeah they just decided to invade Ukraine overnight haha! My point is obviously other boxers have been in worse political situations and worked through these problems -- ask the Cubans.
hmm...I'm wondering how would they go about picking Breidis over Dorticos, yes I know Yunier was KO -- maybe a suspension by that concussion automatically DQ's Dorticos from being a replacement, whatever. Tabiti is ok with me.
I doubt they decided to do it overnight, but Russia invaded the Crimea in 2014, a year after the Wlad/Povetkin fight.
No way should Dorticos be fighting anybody so soon after getting KO'd and taking the amount of punishment he took against Gassiev .. and especially not Gassiev again! I would literally fear for his life if that happened. Some fighters have too much heart for their own good.
And Breidis makes more sense anyway, as he lost at the same stage of the tournament and it would be a new match-up, like Eubank vs Smith.
If Smith had gotten injured in his semi, I doubt very much that the tournament organisers would have considered bringing Eubank back to fight Groves again.
The Russians weren't occupying Ukrainian territory when Wlad fought in Moscow. And what would Gassiev vs Usyk "represent" .. the struggle between Russia and Ukraine?
Seems like you have just given a very good reason why the fight should happen on neutral ground. A boxing match should never represent anything other than a contest to find out which man is the better fighter on the night.

Considering what a close fight Usyk vs Breidis was - a lot of people thought Beidis deserved to win it - I think he's going to be very pissed off if they bring in someone else instead of him. And rightly so, considering the precedent set by putting Eubank on stand-by in case Groves wasn't fit in time.
