He didnt start it, he was brought in to get US fighters and TV. Delivered Robert Brant.
... not a big Schaefer's fan here... but WBSS tournaments still are a joint venture between Sauerland Promotions and Richard Schaefer under the Comosa AG banner... :)
... Schaefer was banned from boxing for a while (due to his feud with ODLH)... last year he started the Ali Trophy -- which is not "precisely ****", tbh... :)

I'm yet to hear how Richard Schaefer is coming up with ideas that properly poo-poo the DAZN environment for boxers.
All I'm hearing him say is it takes away their PPV platform? What platform.. they haven't ****ing got one.
The US hasnt got one... As evident by every PPV buynumber that doesn't have Canelo in it.
Hearns already said that if they transcend to the point of being mega PPV stars then they'll be looked at to see what is more viable for them financially to earn the most they can.
Schaefer might be well respected in boxing.. but he has done precisely **** all for a long while. He should concentrate his efforts on keeping David haye out of the ring.. the fat slob.

Slightly off subject but I read today that Amazon prime have bought the rights to exclusively show some Premier League matches from 2019. Apparently the Premier League / Football Association encouraged the likes of Amazon, Facebook, Netflix and Youtube to bid alongside the usual SKY and BT.
Amazon outbid the likes of SKY for tennis rights no so long back.
I can see a lot more sports, certainly sections of them, going stream based over the next few years.
Who has less money to pay for sports? Those contracts get more expensive every year. Those networks will create their own OTT, like ESPN is doing. They aren't letting those contracts go. Live sports is still their biggest money makers
Well perhaps, but even so, fans will at some stage demand one platform that manages everything.
It's a pain to subscribe to 3 or 4 different ones. Once again, I'm not saying that DAZN will be 'the one', but that's their plan
What other sports will get Americans to buy in?
Well I think the sports americans go for are obvious. NFL, NHL, NBA, MLS, MLS, College football etc etc.
Do they have TV contracts now? Yes. But that doesn't mean it won't change in the future.
These entities are businesses like anything else and will sign with the highest bidder. Just like entertainment TV has suffered in competition with OTTs like netflix, amazon, HBO etc etc so will cable.
They'll have less money to pay for the big sports.
Who knows the timeline, I certainly don't. But I know that cable tv is a dying breed.
Hence why I said he's a solid enough secondary name to pick up cuz he can B side & be the A side on a 3rd or lower billing fight type guy.
I know, and I'm agreeing.
I'm just saying that he's definitely not a headliner on DAZN, unless as an opponent.
But he's kind of perfect as he has a name and generally puts up a good fight.
Dazn is great for people not living in the US and don't have access to watch certain sports. They get to watch US based sports along with PPVs. Here in the US, why would I want to suscribe to DAZN when I could flip the channel and watch MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, and some soccer. Only sports I care to watch are the NFL, MLB, the NBA and boxing. I don't need a DAZN subscription to watch that. As for boxing, Schaeffer has a point, signing a deal to DAZN and Hearn could limit a fighters earning potential. Hearn could just do fight by fight basis, but I'm sure he wants promotional contracts to control a fighter.
Well you don't right now, but that's the whole point. Whether or not they'll succeed is a different matter, but one OTT will definitely win major american sports over cable TV.
That's a fact.
It could be ESPN+ or DAZN or one of the new ones. But cable subscription is dying.
Hearn is limiting earning potential by paying more money to guys???
Granted the PPV angle will limit the biggest names upside, but thats a couple guys every decade who are losing money & there would probably be more guys getting paid more under the level of those couple PPV guys so it'll all equal out & it'll have more fighters making more big money most likely, but yes less Floyd's & Manny's around.
Seems from the offers he is been making, it's not that much and fighters are making more. Say a Charlo signs with Hearn and DAZN, will he be fighting a GGG or Canelo on DAZN? I doubt that, he doesn't need Hearn to get that fight. Jacobs got a PPV fight without Hearn and since then he hasn't really done much since signing with Hearn. Will the fighters be taking in some of the revenue they are now with Hearn? Hearn adds another guy these fighters have to give a cut of their earnings to. There's a lot of variable out there, but like Mikey said, the offers sounds good but it's not something he isn't doing on his own.

Yeah but the guys behind DAZN said it will take a few years to get where they want to be in USA. They have some serious investors and money behind them. They know boxing is a bit of a niche sport compared to others but were prepared to put big money behind it, so imagine what money they might offer up for rights to other sports when the contracts come up. When it comes down to it, there's no sentiment in business and if DAZN offer more money to get rights to other sports, then they will get them.
People said the same about Netflix when it started up, questioning why they would subscribe to it when they can watch movies and shows in many other places, now it has an insane amount of subscribers. The world is always changing, streaming services have taken over TV, Movies and Music and sport will be next. Whether DAZN is the platform to change sports viewing remains to be seen, but someone will do it.
It sounds like Schaeffer hasn't really done much research on the guys behind DAZN. This is also not a boxing subscription platform, but just sports - and boxing comes as part of that.
Showtime haven't made a PPV fight not including Floyd since..... when? I actually don't know.

Respect to Gabriel & fair play to JCC Jr, but if Hearn's top 8 guys includes those two its a bad sign for their first shows & he'll have a lot of work to do still.
As secondary names Gab & JCC Jr aren't bad. And I will say I can see JCC Jr being spun back into a A list guy potentially...although I don't think I'd bet on that sh^t, but its possible with the right fights, the right motivation by JCC Jr (maybe the biggest hurdle) & the right "big fight" to try to line him up towards in the near future.
Come on.. Rosado is being brought in as an opponent.
This is a guy who Hearn brought in for Murray ffs. of course he's just fodder for Charlo or JCC or Brook or one of the other guys Hearn has in mind
Same as Mikey Garcia said. That was just the opening offer though. Mikey's changed his tune since he done a bit of negotiating
I saw Mikey on ESNEWS saying "they were some very interesting numbers".
Sounded like he was offered a good deal.

They definitely ain't making what they claim to make. Hearn knows bs when he hears it.
Hearn said he signed 8 fighters for it already, but you would think if the had a big name he would have announced it already to bring in more fighters. I heard Gab Rosado and Chavez Jr. might be 2 of them.
:lol1: :lol1:

Jermall is saying that Hearn isn't offering him anything that he's not already making
