What if Roy Jones retired after beating Ruiz in 2003? Where would he rank all-time?
-Wins over Hopkins, Toney, Griffin, Hill and Ruiz
-First fighter since Bob Fitzsimmons to win titles from MW to HW
-Only fighter to start career at JMW and win a HW title
Yea, he would have a terrible time with the spinks version of Tyson. He would have had to run for a large portion of the fight and give up most of the fight on the cards and try and pull it out the second half. There is a reason there are weight classes.
True.
I believe that Roy once admitted himself that he'd have had no chance against a prime version of Mike.
I'd have picked the Ruiz version of Roy, over the end of career versions of Mike who fought Williams and McBride.
I couldn't envisage Roy beating Mike when he was at his peak though in the 80's. I don't see how he could have kept Mike off of him. It would have been a horrible match up for Roy, and I say that as one of his biggest fans.

Lol, Roy wasnt a heavyweight man but Id be willing to give 50/50 odds Roy could stay away from him until he blew his load and win a UD.

I don't think Jones should have carried on anywhere near as long as he did, but only in the sense that it was tragic to see and you worried about him getting seriously damaged by the bad KOs he was continually suffering. As it is, nothing can take away the great run he had when he looked invincible. If he had retired undefeated that might have elevated his long-term standing a bit, but he's still a legend, first ballot HoFer and worth discussing in the conversation for all time best P4P.
You do know that muscle doesn’t mean sh*t in boxing right?
What are you talking about?
Roy added mass and dropped body fat to fight Ruiz. He hired Mackie Shilstone, a well respected sports scientist/strategist in order to gain the weight. Mackie has helped literally hundreds of athletes over the last 30 years, including helping Michael Spinks when he moved up to HW to fight Larry Holmes.
Roy didn't walk around at 190 pounds back then, but even if he had've done, he'd have had a different composition to what he had against Ruiz.
Yes, he did have to burn muscle in order to go back down to fight Antonio Tarver at LHW. Burning muscle at an advanced age can have damaging effects on the body. Chris Byrd, Antonio Tarver and Chad Dawson also suffered the same fate.
Tyson at heavyweight

Joe calzaghe
I hope your joking. Roy bounced Joe off the canvas when he was shot to ****. He would have won on knock downs alone in his prime. Joe was a good fighter but he fought Roy and Hop at the right time.
The funny thing is that RJJ in his prime was regularly blasted by the boxing media. Not just for his opposition...but because they thought him a boring risk-averse fighter in the ring. Weirdos.
Thats crazy 15 years ago was the last time he was effective...ever since then it has been sad..15 damn years!!!
Whe RajJ was effective, dayum was he effective... he was da man, he’d be ballin(basketball) in the morning, and afternoon ko his opponent same day, hours later.. he got ****ed in the olympics... he got old... I’m old... I love that video clip of RJJ in Moscow, watching pretty white wimmin show their skinny azz’s
On camera. Cracked me up....
Peace brother Larry...
Lol, I love listening to the talk of, "Losing muscle to get back down." Dude, he didn't gain any muscle to fight Ruiz. He just didn't cut. He probably walked around everyday around 190+.
Are you serious?
Obviously you're talking about Tarver.
He ruined his body though going from the 193lbs of muscle back down to making 175lbs...he was never the same fighter after doing that.

It would have been super cool, but it doesn't matter because WE KNOW Jones was a supernova.
I rate him right under Ray Robinson who holds my #1 slot.
i dont know but he would have saved himself a whooping from joe calzaghe
Just like Joe did when Roy was prime:
"Be honest, Roy's a great fighter. And I'm not chasing him, because I don't want tough fights"
Joe Calzaghe - 1999
