I honestly think Loma has reached his ceiling as far as weight. The guy isn't that big and no matter the skill set you can reach beyond you grasp. I think 140 is probably too much for him especially against someone like Crawford.
That said it won't surprise me to see him go to.140 at some point.
yup...that's what you get
don't forget "ward said 160 for Floyd so why couldn't he also do 164..s.hould be easy" and also "ward a lhw he cant make 168 anymore anyway so he was bluffing with the 168 fight"....
worst fans in boxing and its not even close...although AJ fans might be coming close...but ill cut them some slack and give em a month...AJ is in the states..lets see what goes down over the next few weeks
lets hope lomas fans don't ever reach these levels
GGG has wacky and unreasonable fans but hard to say they are the "worst fans" in Boxing when you consider the following fan bases
Floyd fans (IMO the worst and most miserable bunch I've ever encountered in all sports)
Pacquaio fans
The pro black/anti white/european crowd
The pro white/euro anti black crowd
Canelo fans
Nationalistic fans (one's that are shut down to fighters from elsewhere)
I think Joshua, Wilder (his fans will go when he loses a fight), GGG are in the convo but not on the level of the above yet. If we are taking it back a few years who can forget Tyson fans, Roy Jones fans and much as I love Trinidad (my 2nd favorite fighter ever) his fans.
The more popular and famous the fighter often the wackier the fan. I guess my least favorite are the race warriors/xenophobics but if we are talking individuals it's got to be Floyd fans because they hate on everything and everyone and only care about him.
These fan bases are why it's always better talking about fights and fighters like Usyk-Gassiev, Estrada-Rungvisai, Lara-Hurd etc; for example because most of the above and hate filled casuals who try to derail any discussion but they don't care that much about these fights and aren't fanatical in their lust or their loathe of either man (that they've likely never met or paid to see).
or like andre ward saying he'd fight floyd at 160 right?
i mean...not going to happen right? i think loma/crawford 141 or charlo/crawford 155 actually have more of a chance than ward/floyd at 160 ever did
thats the point...why do lil g jizz guzzlers still point to that to this very day as an excuse? and then the other half of them say "ward went to lhw ...he couldnt make 168 anyway so he was just bluffing"?
wait... so the point of this thread was to somehow tie this into the ward/ggg situation?
Loma vs bigger guy coming down ie Crawford = omfg crawford a weight bully no fair
Floyd vs bigger guy coming down ie canelo = omfg canelo drained no fair
lel

That would be like jermall Charlo offering to fight Crawford at 155.

I would advise him to take no fight above 135. He is 30 years old so he isn't going to grow into a bigger man. His ideal fighting weight is probably 126. He had no problem making that weight not long ago and he was very strong at that weight. If he did fight Crawford at 141 I think he would get KOed. When two great fighters fight and one is much heavier naturally the heavier boxer will almost always win. Loma weighed 138 on fight night for Linares. If Crawford weighed in at 141 he would probably gain 15 pounds and weight about 156 on fight night. He has gained that much weight before. Loma would probably only weigh about 140 on fight night. Any heavier would just slow him down and hurt his stamina. You can't give up that kind of weight to a monster like Crawford and expect to win.
i think loma is the goods...but im not an overzealous superfanboy of him
i agree to a certain point that...some people are driving people to hate him....watching the fight i didnt think tessitore was really giving linares full credit for the work he was doing
but i get it...they are pushing loma as the face of the espn boxing program
this isnt even about hating on loma or anything...i wouldnt really expect him to take this fight ...just curious what the overall opinion would be if crawford came out and said he would take this fight at 141
Loma said a while ago that Crawford was the best current fighter. I think Loma is reaching his limit at 135. Crawford might have to cut off a leg to make 141 so it wouldn't prove anything no matter who wins.
Here's a question, would Linares be the best win on Crawford's ledger had they crossed paths at 135?
If not, who's he's beaten that's proven to be a better fighter?
solid...ya i agree
which brings me to my point...the situation i presented, while not identical, reminds me of ward saying he'd fight floyd at 160
now we all know floyd said he would never fight there..."everyone has limits".....and we heard time and time again from golovkin fans that "ward cant even make 168 anymore hes a lhw"
golovkin fans have a 2 way street going on that ward duck...half of them point to an unrealistic joke fight ward conjured up that had 0 legs.....as proof that ward could have made the 164 CW golovkin said he'd consider....the other half of them say "168 fight with golovkin? ha ward cant make 168 anymore thats why hes going up"
as crazy as loma fans are getting i dont think they could ever come close to reaching the levels of golovkin superfans...even lomas fans realize theres certain things that are off limits and if crawford offered that and loma rejected? i bet loma and his team and fans would all be realistic about it instead of making up excuses as to why the other guy was full of crap
But golovkin stayed at 160 because opposition was weak... that's the difference.
Not without a fight at 140 so we can see what the hell Loma looks like at the weight.
But I mean obviously I would be very excited to see Crawford and Loma fight.
Is it safe to say this thread is really about GGG then?
pretty much ya
his 2 way street fans are the worst...lomas starting to build up a rabid following...but i dont think his fans could ever take it as far as golovkins...at least i hope not
chris...youve seen guys running around here saying "ward said 160 for floyd so why couldnt he do 164 for golovkin" right?
and you know 160 for floyd was NEVER happening right?
you also know half of golovkins fans said ward could never make 168 again anyway and thats why he went to LHW so even when ward said he could fight at 168 he was lying right?
I'd probably put a re-hydration clause of no more than 7-8 lbs in if I wanted that fight but not sure why certain people are already saying Loma should move up.
He could still make 126 and realistically should be at 130 still. I'd advise he stay at 135 and look to dominate that weight and become an all-time great at that weight.
Bernard Hopkins is probably the last fighter to establish himself as a top 10 all-time at one of the traditional weight classes. Too many fighters are doing the belt grabbing at multiple weights. Call me old school but I think it's impressive to be an ATG at a particular weight class that's been around over 100 years. He has that chance and would be at a disadvantage fighting much bigger men in their primes if he decided to move up ei
im in no way suggesting loma should move up...not at all....just creating an imaginary scenario i think compares somewhat to one we saw recently in the last couple of years.....i dont think loma would/should take this imaginary fight...and i think he should stay where he is

Loma might be the most skilled boxer out there...but he's not strong. He is certainly out working guys and fairly easily at that but the Linares fight showed that weight added to decent power will slow his workrate. Pac learned with margarita that there is an upper limit no matter how good you are. He won but he felt every punch in that fight.
