" Legit question, do liver shots hurt that bad"?............
It's not a legit question, when you get hit there it can cause a debilitated state for 15 to 45 seconds. Just like a solar plex shot can cause you to become defenseless.
This reaction is caused by nerves there reacting back to the spine and it's result renders you helpless.
There's no set time for the reaction but there's nothing you can do about it once it occurs!
You can get hit there without the nerve reacting but if it does your toast!

How hard is it to connect on a good liver punch? Is the target area small...or can you defend them by flexing your abs?
I can't imagine why fighters down on the cards wouldn't try to go for broke with a liver shot then.
There's not enough muscle there to really guard it. Just take your fist and lightly punch under your right elbow... you'll feel it.
I have taken shots to the liver from HWs at my gym and I dont feel anything for real so Im always shocked when I see fighters collapse because of them.
Also do you guys think the fight was stopped early? I know he said "nueve" and linares looked dejected, but it's the champ. I would've like the ref to give him a chance to fight back
No, he would easily have gotten completely knocked out, and possibly really hurt. No more punishment was needed.
Hell yeah it hurts. It's trauma to an organ. Just imagine getting kicked in the testicles/groin area and you will experience a similar kind of pain that Linares felt.
that shot didnt even look that hard but linares looked like he was in paaaaaaain
With a head shot, your brain doesn't process the pain, that's why a fighter can take multiple head shots and continue fighting. But with a liver shot your brain is clear but you autonomic nervous system (the part of the brain that controls heat rate, blood pressure etc) reacts. The vagus nerve is stimulated, blood vessels through out the body (except for the brain ) dilate, blood pressure drops and heart rate drops. In an effort to maintain blood flow to the brain the body forces itself into a horizontal or supine position.
This survival tactic is a reason the fighter collapses.

that fight needed to be stopped. linares wasn't in a position to defend himself. he didn't make a peep after the stoppage. went straight to his stool. the guy probably hardly knew where he was.
now, if oyu want to make the argumetn that linares could have tried to apear as though he was more ready, fine. i'm not in his body and woudn't, but i guess you can say he could have tried to just keep his head up and tell the ref he was ready.
but he didn't appear ready, did he?
Arturo is in the Hall of Fame. He was inducted around 2012-2013.
Yes I know he’s in
What I’m saying is he belongs in there imo
Just cause of his fights , the excitement , the crowds etc etc
that shot didnt even look that hard but linares looked like he was in paaaaaaain
It does hurt the hardest bit is getting your breath back quickly, it keeps you floored so when you see guys struggling to get back up its not an act.
If you tried sparring or whatever I'm sure it would maybe eventually happen to you, although, its not something you'd want to put yourself through.

People land there all the time, but may not get it perfectly timed or their opponent can embrace for it well enough. Flexing your abs will protect you, but if your abs aren't strong enough, fatigued or your opponent connects hard/accurate enough, you'll still go down.
The best time to land there is when your opponent is throwing a right hand. Him exhaling will expand the liver and make it more exposed. That's why they teach you to counter with a left hook to the body when your opponent throws a right hand.
YES THEY DO!! I've never caught one in the boxing ring because I as a fighter that used my legs and never did the toe to toe infighting, but on the basketball court one time, someone caught me with with a forearm in the liver when I jumped and extended my arms to grab the ball. I could not breathe or stand up for at least a minute. Every piece of oxygen I had was gone as I was on the floor in a fetal position. The only other time I've felt pain like that was when I had a groin tear haha
