Personally, I think all boxers should consider their optimal weight cut, and that they should fight in that division. All this talk about weight bullies seems kind of senseless and whiny...unless rules are broken (like missing day of fight weigh-ins).
Thoughts?
Yes, although usually the ones they're cheating the most are themselves. Draining yourself massively for fights is typically only something you can do for so long and eventually it'll get too hard and you have to move up to the weight that you probably should have been at all along. When you do have to do that you put yourself at a disadvantage because the other guy likely has experience fighting guys your size and you don't.
Its just playing every legal advantage you have, an age old adage in any form of professional fighting was to be as big as you can be at the weight, the idea is true, but the like all things people will find a loop hole, and the loop hole is the variation that is between dehydrated weight and the fighting weight, this varies between people and their particular system, add to this the use of drugs to draw more fluid out of you and now we have a slippery slope that can allow basically legal cheating.
If your big at the weight and do it fairly I dont see anything wrong with that, if your using drugs to be able to weighin lighter or forcing another guy down with the intent of draining him its wrong.
Right, if they make weight legally then I have no problem with what they rehydrate to. If they put on a lot of weight then that means they usually cut a lot which a lot of people say has negative effects. But everyone is different. Sum guys are taller than others, sum hit harder, longer reach etc. Nobody should get too bent out of shape if there’s proof u both weighed the same the day before your fight.

So why not weigh people before they enter the ring?
People would continue to try to manipulate their weight in weird ways, probably.
That would be truly dangerous.
No time to rehydrate or replenish at all.
You're forgetting that they brought in day before weigh ins because people were cutting weight on same day weigh ins and dying.
If they aren't fighting in the correct weight class there is a danger of that happening, yes.
But that's their fault. They shouldn't be weight bullying.
It’s honestly one of my biggest beefs with boxing. The only upside is your damn near always going to get to see weight bully’s get badly beaten down when they eventually can’t cut anymore and have to fight guys their own size. It’s as close to a guarantee as there is in boxing.
Didn't you predict Ali doing a master class clinic on the kid?
I never cared enough for this matchup to make a prediction.
I know more boxing than you though that’s a fact.
lmao damn bro cant even be honest

I never liked that, it just seems like a way to roll over for the people who cut weight dangerously
Long as they make the weight on the weighin day nope... no problems whatsoever.
This is also my view of weight cutting.
I tend to be more critical of guys like Gervonta and Nery who actually Missed the weight specified in the contract.
Although I thought Hurd had no business at 154 lbs. He did make the weight.
i think people overall want to see 2 guys fight who are the same or very close in weight and not a comp to see who can dry themselves out the most and rehydrate again which brings in play body types etc, maybe i'm missing something but why not just bring in stricter rehydrate limits, the ibf have made a start on it, weight classes exist for a reason, not an exercise to find ways to bypass them in a way
No i only call someone a weight bully if they miss weight on the scales
Exactly this, as long as a fighter makes the weight no one can complain about it being a weight mismatch.
Yea i do care. Ali-Munguia for instance..Did Munguia do something wrong or bully poor little Ali? If so please explain what he did wrong. It's not his fault if Ali fights above his best weight and is a weak champion. Munguia just comfortably made weight and then kicked ass. He is no bully and was willing to fight GGG. I like him.
I don't like the weigh in the day before the fight and I think same day weigh ins were much better. However weighing in the afternoon before the fight is now the rules. I don't think there is such a thing as a weight bully. I think it's a term some fans made up to discredit boxers they don't like. If a boxer makes the contracted weight then he has stayed within the current rules and cheated or bullied nobody. A boxer can only gain so much weight in 32 hours without doing himself more harm than good. If a boxer finds himself outweighed on fight night then drop down to a lower weight class. Their are 17 different weight classes and many are only a few pounds apart. Blame the current weigh in rules if you want but don't blame the boxers who follow the rules and cheat or bully nobody.
As long as they meet all the rules in place, I don't really care.
If a guy misses weight (ie Broner) or doesn't follow sanctioning rules (ie Jacobs), I'd probably complain a bit. Catchweights are fine by me for non title fights but if it's a title fight, I think it gotta be at the full weight.
yes the PED juiced mosley
he did not have concrete gloves during the mosely fight or the cotto fight. cottos trainer signed the wraps and mosely should have been jailed for almost killing margarito
Did Mosley pop for the margarito fight? No?
Regardless who gives a ****, doesn’t matter to the thread topic, I just like it when weight bullies finally get dealt with and was just using margarito v Mosley as an example.
Sorry if margarito triggered you
