That was a great performance but Loma can be wreckless in his attack. He got hit with a lot of great shots from Linares, punches he took simply from being squared up, overly aggressive, and a bit careless. Most notably he got put on his butt with a straight right hand, something we never saw happen to Floyd.
I think Loma is beatable, namely because he leaves himself wide open for counters much too often, I think a real sharpshooter has a chance of timing and stopping Loma. I'm thinking a guy like Crawford or Mikey Garcia
But regardless great fight and Loma is certainly p4p right now!
Loma won 2 gold medals on two weight classes, Floyd won bronze.
Floyd never made 4 consecutive opponents quit.
Floyd never faced an elite opponent in their prime.
Floyd never put himself at a disadvantage.
Go look up Floyd's 12th opponent while we wait.
Loma fought in the amateurs well into his 20s while Floyd turned pro at 19. Floyd faced plenty of elite prime fighters. Corrales, Castillo, were in their primes and even Hatton was younger with more pro wins and more kos than Floyd.
Floyd came from 130 pounds all the way up to 154 pounds. Let's see Loma even try going to 147. I can guarantee Loma will get beat again by the time he tries to go up that high.
castillo is a slow come forward fighter. linares is a great boxer who has never been outboxed. his only problem is his durability and loma is not a power puncher and yet he still outboxed him. floyd went cherry picking and just miscalculated. loma took a risk pitting his skills against another highly skilled boxer while moving up in weight. also floyd wanted no part of stevie johnston so you can see the type of opponent floyd wanted
Everyone who actually believes Floyd ducked Stevie Johnson please speak up. Idiot
Would have been a great fight to have seen.
Floyd had Castillo at 135 who gave Floyd hell and won the first fight imo. Loma had Linares who gave Loma hell and Loma KO'd him.

Thats because Loma has much more faith in his ability than Floyd. Floyd fooled around much longer with the pros and when finally moved up like Loma's weight, Castillo apparently scared the risk taking right out of him out of him because he failed to take on scary fighters on par to Russel Jr., Rigondeaux, Walters., etc
This answers my question who would win at 130. Floyd is just superior in every way.

I'm a Floyd fan but damn, let the man enjoy his retirement.
I agree there was really no need for this thread. But I kinda saw Loma as his true heir apparent. So it dies kinda make for interesting convo.
Ok cool. Don't you 'dare to be great' he does it. Wins.
Evaluation is needed.
I thought he'd destroy Linares. In actually a Loma fan. I didn't expect he'd get beat up like that. He's a great fighter. His ceiling is just a little lower than I thought.
If Loma fights Mikey, that's a bigger risk than Floyd took in his entire career.
What does that have to do with this conversation about skill? And what is that even based on?
Linares isn't that impressive of a fighter. Let's not make it seem he is.

Floyd would win by decision against Loma but Loma has much more weapons and 100% interesting to watch
Flody would knock Loma out at that weight!
Let Loma fight for 20 years AND multiple weight classes
and then we can compare careers until then just remember Loma just got dropped at 140!

And Rigo wasnt the next boxing god here before he quit?
Lol ok sure.
Walters was supposed to KO Loma too.
Loma vs linares and these guys bring up floyd when nobody mentions his name.
Insecurity is a mutha.
I brought up Floyd because that's the p4p standard of the past 20 years

I'm guessing you haven't seen Floyd in the lower weights.

Great Win but Loma Not Better than Floyd | BoxingScene Community
