Gonzales was considered P4P 1 by many on the board and like all great fighters he moved up a weight division to challenge the 'bigger' guys.
So one day he decided to hold in his poop for an extra day to make the new weight division of SuperFly weight, a whooping 2lbs heavier than what he originally was.

Roman Gonzales should be synonymous for 'Overrated' in boxing.
Yeah a loss is a death sentence to the casuals. "Exposed", "Garbage", "Should retire" etc; Some guys lose their fan base altogether, some guys keep theirs but always have to be told of how he was a bum and never any good.
I truly believe had Mayweather-Castillo I gone the way most people saw it and Castillo got the nod Mayweather would have no fan base. I think a guy like Holyfield or Hopkins would have no chance these days with most of the fans but Wilder and Charlo are legends already.
Exactly. Mayweather's wealth, success and fan base is hinged largely upon his undefeated record. Which is why he fought in such a defensive manner during the last third of his career and was very prudent about who he fought. One loss and no one would have been buying any of his PPV's, because that is why most fans purchased them to begin with, wanting to see him lose that precious "0".
Today, these casuals shyt all over many of the ATGs because of their losses (Floyd started that when he trashed Ali for losing to Spinks) and it has had a trickle down effect on fighters today who are fearful of losing that zero in the loss column and the millions of dollars that follow.
He has a better defense than JCC and GGG.
Corrupt judging isn't unique to states, it's about how these judges can be reached and by who. Maybe they were corrupt or maybe just incompetent. Regardless, Roman should have won that first fight and most in the boxing community agreed.
Gonzalez is a classic example of how casual fans treat a fighter after he suffers his first loss. Suddenly he was a hype job, overrated, and not worthy of any further discussion. If GGG suffers his first defeat they'll be all over it with the "I told you so" routine. Same will happen to Wilder, AJ, Thurman, Spence, Crawford...it only takes one loss in today's boxing scene to lose all credibility. We still have casuals who shyt on Loma because he lost to Salido in his second pro fight.

I truly believe had Mayweather-Castillo I gone the way most people saw it and Castillo got the nod Mayweather would have no fan base and nobody here would talk about him. He gained a lot of Roy Jones fans once he was KO'd and then new fans that are only into the "0" and all the exposed stuff. I think a guy like Holyfield or Hopkins would have no chance these days with most of the fans but Wilder and Charlo are legends already.
New fanbases are horrible. A guy goes to fight everybody, get KO and now all of sudden he is a bum : facepalm
Yeah, unfortunately we (boxing) have the worst fans in all sports. We used to have the best.
I followed Chocolatito's career from the moment he defeated Niida and he got some quality work in from that fight until the second Rungvisai fight. He was always the consensus #1 in all three divisions until Super Fly where he actually dethroned a very good fighter in Cuadras despite being a little war torn and smaller (than the opposition) at that point.
He got jobbed in the first Rungvisai fight, beat Estrada, Yaegashi, Viloria, Arroyo etc; too all excellent wins and despite the biased fans on this forum (because of their anti GGG agenda they linked Choco to him) none of his wins are disputed either.
Was he the weakest p4p champ? I think he had a better career purely in Boxing terms than Tyson and Ward and I personally would rank him over Mosley and De La Hoya on a mythical all-time rankings list but by the time Choco was deemed to be #1 I think he was already slightly beyond his peak and I didn't think he was better than Lomachenko or Crawford but his resume was I guess.
He's a great fighter, a shoe-in for the hall of fame, had some great fights and backed down from no challenge and brought the little guys to a lot of folks attention yet he's hated by a large number of folks on this site. Makes sense.
His defense is sh*t though. He has always used his face to block punches. I don’t think any of those fighters would’ve crawled under a rock if there was a giant Roman Gonzalez up there. He would actually been easy work with his atrocious defense that those little Asians couldn’t do anything to down there, except when he met the Rungvisai dude.
We will forget he was robbed in the first loss, because he wasn’t. What was the point in robbing him in NYC? Oh NYC loves Rungvisai, we want promote that guy as the next Pacquiao. Man those judges don’t give a f*ck, they scored what they saw.

Could you imagine the internet being a thing in the 80's? Lol
P4P is not determined by resume alone. You have to factor in how a given fighter would perform with his skillset against other fighters in mythical match ups across all weight classes. Given Roman's style, skills, and overall performance I don't have a problem calling him P4P #1 during his tenure. Imagine a 6' tall Chocolatito at 154 with his skills...the Charlo's would have crawled under a rock as would Lara, Canelo and Andrade. What he were 6'6" 240 lbs. with those skills, you think any HW could touch him? I think he's a better P4P fighter than GGG when you consider the whole fighter concept. Don't forget he was robbed in his first loss.

Gonzalez trashes Crawfords resume at the same age. You don't know what the hell is a good resume is and consider Crawford P4P no 1
I don’t consider Crawford p4p #1.
My p4p #1 is actually Lomachenko.
It was Andre Ward before he retired.

At that point in time he was the proper fighter to have #1.
Like always ppl trying to spin it. He got robbed in his first lost and got trashed in the second one. At least he took on the competition and lost when he went up in weight.
people never understand this. ward was inactive / arguably lost to kovalev. floyd was retired. there's a list that exists, people exit, and next thing you know there's a new pound for pounder. and that was gonzalez.
New fanbases are horrible. A guy goes to fight everybody, get KO and now all of sudden he is a bum : facepalm
gonzalez is an easy choice for the hall of fame and will be in there quickly. luckyl these guys on bscene don't have a vote.

i don't think you watched a lick of his career before he made it to american TV. the guy started his world title run at 105 lbs and only a few years into his pro career. form there he was a championship level fighter for almost a decade.
like a lot of little guys, he peaked early and was moved as such. this isn't a HW who takes until his 25th or even 30th birthday to develop his man strength and fill out. what you saw was the end of his career and his third weight class, when he'd started to slow down, get hit more, and show the damage.

No. His mistake was going for greatness. He rose up too many weight classes.
At that point in time he was the proper fighter to have #1.

Yes, although I dunno if he was truly #1. His was the name that basement dwelling phaggots on here would throw out to try and sound smart. Like bring up some obscure midget in any argument and it makes you sound knowledgeable. But just as he started getting hyped in the mainstream he got exposed.
haha to be honest I have no idea who any of the guys on his resume are
105-115lbs boxers are like athletes in the special Olympics, you gotta let the tiny guys shine once in a while and allow them some scraps from the table. But not too much because they might accidently go up 3 weightclasses.
Andre Ward would probably be the worst guy to have held P4P1 status for me, because unlike Roman Gonzalez who was willing to carry on picking hard fights after hard fights without having to rely on robberies to get the nod, Ward had a good few favours through his career which I can simply not forget.
That and I don't think any part time boxer should be getting such liberties.
I'm a fan, but he was the worst #1 p4p fighter.
Being the worst among the best of the best still a great accomplishment. Not sure if he really deserved it on merit or if he just crowned it by default since the other two behind him were Kovalev and Ward. And Ward would have and should have been #1 p4p if he wasn't fighting tune ups after his period of inactivity.

exposed is a word dweeb boxing fans use when a fighter loses to make them sound knowledgeable
It's sad how HBO just chewed him up and spit him out. They were going extra hard for Choco. Now they don't even mention him.
But Breadman said Choco is a hall of famer soo.. I respect Bread's opinions on majority of things boxing related.
The rise and heavy HBO hype of Choco certainly made me take notice of the lower weights because honestly before him I didn't care about those fighters.
