Canelo Alvarez was hit, by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, with a reduced penalty for doping violations Wednesday, potentially allowing him to return to the ring in September against Gennady Golovkin. Alvarez was given a six-month suspension instead of the standard one year for first-time violators. His May 5 fight with Click Here To Read More]
Canelo should not fight GGG anymore, let him fight bums....Canelo calls the shots. GGG being a coward qith the meat contamination issue. Hey, stop fighting welterweights and fight Zurdo Ramirez or Benavidez. they have been calling you....coward.
:haha: so pathetic.
Canelo should at least have shown up in person for the hearing, he could care less, GGG will be older by the time they fight, that is all Canelo cares about.

Yea, I would honestly like to see the rematch in Mexico with 0 drug testing if they can't do 365. Let's see Canelo on PEDs vs. GGG on PEDs, not this bs with a dirty fighter gaining a sneaky advantage over a clean fighter.
ahahah. Though that won't happen, I know exactly what you mean though. Canelo needs to be on a 24/7 365. No matter what.
He owes that much to fans and the entire boxing community - IF he cares to TRY to repair his image and maintain ANY legitimacy he has left.
Which is the issue: He needs to be under 24/7 365 for the next 2 to 3 years. If not, then literally nothing changed.
Oh, and don't be surprised if you see Canelo fighting in Cali and Texas alot more often from here on out.

What fine is honestly going to make a difference if he's already made millions by being a PED cheat throughout his career? In the future, hopefully, they levy 3-5 year bans from the sport for any violation or remove the drug testing requirement entirely, so everyone is on a level (PED-filled) playing field. Is Canelo even going to be tested during his suspension? If not, he basically engineered a nice little PED training sabbatical for himself.

Eric Gomez, at the podium when they announced that Canelo was pulling out of the fight, admitted they didn't warn Canelo about meat contamination in Mexico, nor did they notify any other fighters.
But even with all that said, I really don't see this going to court. Out of court settlements happen alllllll the time, and they're far better than a publicized spectacle. The last thing GBP needs is to be in the court room, yet again.
IF, and a big IF, this rematch happens in September, I believe there will be a significant modification in their purse AND ppv % splits in Gennady's favor via contract.
So Gomez is falling on the sword! Interesting stuff. Let's see how this plays out
I agree, I think this is terrible, regardless of the excuses with the meat or what not, to get two tests that came back positive is bad, this has to put an asterisk on his other fights.
The guy probably just lost 10 million dollars and you want a hundred thousand dollar fine on top of that? He'll have been inactive for a year by his next fight and his name is being dragged through the press. I think that's a decent punishment already.
I believe he admitted that he made a mistake. I don’t think he said he was negligent in a legal sense. One thing is certain, they both lost a ton of money, and to your point GGG might try to recover his “loss” through the courts.

Gomez took the blame for not warning Alvarez of a problem that has been so prominent that the NFL has previously warned its players not to eat Mexican meat.
"We didn't and it's very unfortunate we didn't, but we're taking the proper measures now and we're in the process of notifying our fighters," Gomez said.

You don't have to prove intent in order for there to be a breach of contract.
Besides, Canelo/GBP already admitted to negligence/carelessness.

Negligence won't matter much based on the precedence that has already been set.

Maybe GGG will sue and we will be able to second guess the lawyers and the court, but I don’t think a law suit is in the cards.
The WBC is making themselves look like fools! Stevenson, Canelo, and Thurman, are making them look terrible!
Yeah. WBC has damage control issues. They completely mishandled the Adonis situation and reacted far too late. Canelo situation is completely wacky. The Thurman situation is a hard one. They're gonna have to make a decision on that one soon though.
Only one problem with that: This rematch was ordered and enforced by the WBC, so if he chose to not defend his belt against Canelo, he would be stripped. The WBC is making themselves look like fools! Stevenson, Canelo, and Thurman, are making them look terrible!
Don't count on a September fight as a sure thing. As someone has pointed out Canelo can choose to fight a "tune-up" because of his recent surgery. It would have been better for GGG, Sanchez and company to have taken the high road. The mocking, the constant complaining and fighting a retired 154 pounder on short notice is not being well received. Canelo has little incentive to put another $15 million in GGG's bank account. I would not be surprised if there is no rematch next September or ever.
You're right. It's definitely NOT a sure thing.
I think a lawyer would be in a better position to help sort this out, but even negligence seems a high hurdle to me. For example, I can think of a scenario where Canelo can say he has never tested positive before and they purchased the meat from the same place as before or ate at the same places or that his folks were given to believe that the meat was safe. The food chain is long and complex. The same animal can be bought and sold several times before eventually being sold by a butcher or local grocer. Mischief can occur at several junctures. A question to answer would be, were the other world-class athletes also negligent? Anyway, good food for thought.

Assuming the contract doesn't prohibit lawsuits of this type, Part of the "cure" would be for GGG to sue Canelo. That would be interesting. Since it was to have been a PPV fight, it would be in Canelo's interest to low ball the expected PPV revenues and in GGG's interest to try and convince a jury that the fight was going to set records or a minimum generate as much revenue as their first fight. A big hurdle for GGG would be to prove intent on the part of Canelo. Inasmuch as several hundred athletes from various sports have tested positive after eating contaminated meat in Mexico, proving that this was a deliberate act would be next to impossible. But it certainly would give the keyboard warriors plenty to rant about.

I'm guessing they've already agreed to the same contract for September. Ggg's camp was bullish on keeping this May date and now it makes sense as they'll be back in September most likely. If Canelo doesn't fight GGG in September and GGG got no payment for this cancellation then Loeffler and whomever else handles GGG career are absolute idiots
