The city centre (makati I believe) had crazy big and modern malls, walking around felt pretty safe and dont know how, but there were also no homeless people in that area. So in the first couple days we stayed in a hostel in an area called Malate and around the place there were dozens of homeless kids runnings around. We met those same kids in the night high from some kind of glue on the way back and had to step over kids sleeping on the stairs to the hostel. But filipinos are very nice people, although there food is pretty lame compared to other SEA countries lol.
