Most overrated Puerto Rican of all time. Certainly doesn't count as a good win for Pac or Floyd.
Actually Jose Torres was the most overrated Puerto Rican fighter ever.
some of these comments :lol1: suddenly torres, quintana and malignaggi are world beaters :lol1: Who did any of them guys beat? fact is cotto did absolutely nothing special in his career and got spanked time and time again in his big fights. youre not talking about competitive fights either, he lost badly to pacquiao, mayweather, canelo and margarito. theres plenty of fighters who did better against them guys than cotto did. pacquiao hasnt stopped anyone since but he had no problem stopping cotto :lol1:
You DKSAC
Cotto's big fights were wins against Mosley, Margarito, Martinez and Judah and losses to Margarito, Pacquiao, Mayweather and Canelo.
The first Margarito fight is questionable obviously because of the plaster and how was that not a competitive fight? The scorecards didn't indicate that. He got beat bad against Pacquiao. He gave Mayweather a good fight, had Mayweather bleeding and Mayweather himself told Cotto that he was the toughest guy he ever fought, Mayweather himself said it was competitive. Against Canelo that was old lion vs young lion, one guy is 25, the other 35 and yeah Canelo won but Cotto didn't look bad. Alot of the rounds were competitive, granted Canelo won a good majority of the rounds, but Cotto was competitive in that fight. You just sound like a hater honestly.
Was Cotto the best of his era, no, but he was in that next tier right after Mayweather and Pacquiao and that's pretty damn good.
Haters can hate all they want, but the man is going to the Hall of Fame and at the end of the day, that's all that matters.
True That!
Going up divisions doesn't grant you any privilege, he went up the divisions that he choose to because he was struggling to make weight.
Wilder, Ali, Tyson, and many others never move through any divisions I guess you will criticize them for that as well :lol1:

Nope 👎 heavyweights can’t move up but Golovkin can.
Cotto has gone up 3 divisions Golovkin hasn’t had the balls to go up one!
Also your boy wilder has 40 fights and only beaten 2 guys who won titles the **** has he been doing? Lol!

GGG has not gave guys in his division a chance to take his belts (I don't mean ducking) unlike Cotto, handing his WBC to GGG and the constant losses :lol1:
GGG is really 39-0
Losing your belt 3 times and failing in 3 world title bids, its better to not share your belts its better to dominate I know that's hard to grasp.

All 3 of those guys won world titles! If they aren’t quality wins then I don’t know what is. Cotto has beaten 16 guys who won titles in his career. GGG has only beaten 4 that is horrible after 38 fights.

Cotto also beat 4 guys who were undefeated and went on to win world titles after losing to Cotto!
Maussa
Torres
Malignaggi
Quintana
That’s quality right there!
One legged martinez
One eyed Margarito
Lost to mosley
Was losing to judah until low blows. Who even considers Judah a great win on their resume? !
Malignaggi?!?:rofl::rofl:
Are we starting to see a pattern here?
He was getting beaten up pretty bad by that African dude wtf his name... Clottey totally didn't use boxrec, yeah Clottey was unlucky to not get the nod.
I've been kinda harping on Cotto for some time, his resume is obviously not something that would make you think he would beat the best of the best back then, that's me putting it nicely.

Cotto had an excellent career and provided a ton of thrills. That's as much as one can ask of any fighter. He was good for the sport.
Great fighter? Far from it. A damn good one. I don't count the Margarito loss so really the only guy who beat him near his best was Pacquaio. He's probably from 6-8 all-time on the Puerto Rican list because of his longevity and how he bounced back.
Best 5 wins?
Mosley, Clottey, Quintana, Martinez and Judah probably.
Great points you bring up. Cotto did face a prime Margarito, perhaps a little bit too prime in an illegal way, Lol and he did face a peak, prime Pacquiao and for sure most definitely faced the better version of Shane Mosley in 2007 than Floyd did in 2010 and Pacquiao did in 2011.
That Cotto-Mosley fight was close, I had Cotto winning 115-113. Cotto won most of the early rounds, Mosley came on too late, he won most of the rounds in the second half of the fight, but Cotto was able to adjust and win a couple of the late rounds to win 115-113. I remember Mosley just started too late in that fight.
Good stuff man, good knowledgeable post!
Thanks and yeah, I think Cotto won a close, competitive fight. I don't see it going for MOsley but whatever the outcome, it is far from a robbery that some like to claim and in all honesty, no one at the time saw it as anything other than a close fight.
Man Tito was getting out boxed and dropped by Vargas, and had to result low blowing Vargas to destroy his momentum and give him time to recover from Vargas' assault.
Yep.. Agreed.
Vargas was giving him hell. The low blows were devastating and had changed the fight completely in Tito's favor.
Those were the days when boxing was king!
once again. You're playing monday morning quarterback. That fight was not seen as a joke or a mismatch. and a sht ton of posters here picked Martinez to dominate since little Cotto didn't belong at that weight.
same thing happened with Floyd vs Shane. everybody predicted Floyd would never fight a "real" welterweight. Mosley was the boogeyman at the time. after the fight he was old and Floyd's win didn't mean sht.
J
monday morning quarterback.
I'll give you that . I was one of the guys that picked Martinez . But felt duped when I saw him flopping around the ring unable to get his footing . Watching that I thought to myself " Martinez took this fight injured for a Paycheck " .
Of course they are.
I saw some guy posting about how Judah is a laughable win but he is one of Mayweathers top 6 or 7 wins lol
Clottey is another terrific win in a close, controversial fight. People forget just hot big and strong and durable Clottey was back then.
I agree, the Torres fight is one of Cotto's finest moments, rocked and hurt and pulls out the win.
It's also important to note Cotto got in the ring with a prime Margarito, who Mayweather avoided like the plague, got in the ring with a prime Pacquiao and got in the ring with the best version of Mosley faced by Cotto, May or Pac.
