Looking at Joshua's record, I don't believe there's a single instance of his knocking an opponent out cold. Has he ever achieved this?
For someone who is being touted as some kind of Knock Out Artist, it's quite incredible, I think, that Joshua lacks cold power. Sure, some will say, 'Yeah, the ref always jumps in too early, that's why' but it's more than this, he seems tight and slow somehow. Is he simply too muscle-bound?
We all saw Whyte's KO of Browne last week. Why haven't we seen KOs like that from Joshua?
Im sure the time will come when he times someone perfectly and from the strength of the man it will be a serious k/o.
For his opponents im sure their very happy he doesnt have this cold power yet or their will be alot of fighters ending up in hospital
What do you mean by cold power? Knocking out COLD?
I mean decisive KOs, that make people slept, so yeah, I guess the KO on Whyte would count as that, he seemed out of it
More to the point, it strikes me that Joshua is not a one-punch kind of guy, but more of a cumulative-damage fighter, in spite of any reputation he has as a heavy hitter
Hey man, come on, I'm not saying Joshua is feather-fisted, far from it, he obviously has power there, I'm just saying it's not cold power, if that makes sense? Seems more like a thudding, clubbing type of power. Just means we might never see clean KOs from Joshua, there's always be a ref jumping in, or a towel thrown, or whatever

Thanks for all the responses, some interesting thoughts. Have to say, my take on Joshua has changed a little after this thread. If he can keep on improving/learning, he's on the right track to have a consistent and decent career, aiming to be a boxer-puncher (although he strikes me as more of a swarmer sometimes..) rather than simply a heavy hitter. Smart move, really. I still would like to see him being able to time and counter opponents better, though, walk people onto shots and things like this, perhaps then we'd see some more flash
Here are all Joshua's KOs btw, for anyone who's interested:
So? There are several reasonable factors that could explain that rationally. Lennox was ko'ing everybody, maybe his people wanted him to start going the distance? Lennox has more power than those dudes. Jeremy Williams, you serious?
Tyson was out cold when he hit the canvas. When that punch landed and he hit the canvas he was out cold for a good 4 seconds. People do all kinds of stuff when their out. Mike grabbed his nose, some guys wave their arms around like a baby in the crib.
This fool is still punching with a guard up lmao. Learn the game kid!
I don't see you bringing up Ruddock you creampuff.
That was Simon Brown when he fought Vince Pettway. Brown was fouling so much in that fight that he got what he deserved. And I was a Brown fan at that time.
AJ is a big alethic dude. He counters and throws fast combinations. He generates power in that way. Might not have the one KO punching power but enough power and accuracy to punish his opponent and then work him for the KO.
If you don't respect his power you are going down
And Lewis couldn't even slightly hurt glass-jawed bum Levi Billups in 10 rounds in his 19th fight. Corrie Sanders, Tim Witherspoon, Jeremy Williams all knocked him (Billups) out in 1 round. Hell, even feather-fisted cruiserweight Orlin Norris demolished Levi Billups inside 50 seconds.

Lewis battered shot to **** Tyson like a punching bag for 7 rounds and Tyson wasn't knocked out cold. He was getting up at the end of the count. Tyson covered his face with his right arm right after hitting the ground. He WASN'T knocked out cold.

What are you talking about, Lewis cold stopped Tyson. Lewis also lanced Ruddock cold too. You just start watching Boxing last week or something?
Also, you're comparing the best era of HW's to the shítstains that are out there now. Lewis' opposition was the best in Boxing history.
I'm NOT a Lennox Lewis fan, but come on dude lmao.

Ruddock got his ass beat and stopped by 208lb 6'6 David Jaco and drew with 7-20 Phil Brown years earlier. You're not that good if you're drawing/losing to these part time boxers.
Tyson's chin was questionable, he'd already been stopped by Douglas, he was getting dropped in sparring during that time too and not by world champions but by part time boxers. He was stopped by Holyfield who had more KO's at cruiser than HW, and was losing on the cards to Botha before he cold clocked him.
Zumbano would've been a legend in the 90's. Just like Mitch Green/Ruddock get remembered for their chins even though Green would get KO'd the very next fight and Ruddock had already been stopped by a walking stick.
AJ's power is legit, doesn't hit as hard as Wilder, but he is very powerful. AJ's opponents are in survival mode and that's what makes getting a KO so damn hard.
Klitschko for example was on the back foot from round 1, holding, dodging, barely throwing. He threw 22, 16, 12, 17 punches in the first 4 rounds.
Takam is another example, he literally said his strategy vs Joshua was to survive the first couple rounds in an attempt to gas him, then gradually up his work rate. 11, 21, 21, 17, were his punches thrown the first 4.

Who are people comparing josh to? Ernie shavers? Mike tysoin? Julian Jackson?
Josh must be hardest hitting heavyweight today so it seems to be a bout silly to question his power.

Joshua doesn't have that one punch KO put you to sleep kind of power but what he does have is a very hard sledgehammer style punch where every shot is going to hurt and he can badly hurt or drop you at any time from 1-12.
And if he has you hurt he has the potential to finish you.
That makes him very dangerous from 1-12.
His KOs of Whyte and Zumbano Love were impressive. BTW, Lennox Lewis also never knocked out anybody as cold as Whyte KOed Browne.

Look at his technique, he doesn't snap his punches and his form is off which negates power. His 1-2 is TERRIBLE. I watched the Takam fight last night and I'm like, this guy throws his right hand like an amateur. Joshua's trainer sucks.
If Joshua wasn't so big he would be fighting in the B-Leagues.
Joshua needs to lean down 15-20 pounds and get a new trainer. That one guy from the Kronk would be good, Steward's nehpew.
Robert McCracken is a bad trainer? :lol1:

Whyte was out pretty badly.

Lennox's KO of Rahman in the rematch was pretty devastating.

Yes, but Rahman wasn't out cold. He even tried to get up but collapsed again. I think Joshua's KO of Whyte wasn't any less devastating comparing to Lewis' KO of Rahman.
