I think I'm done fellas, just recently I went and watched a live boxing event at The Belasco Theater in LA. It was a Golden Boy event ameture boxing. For the first time ever I witnessed a judge rob a amateur boxer, Let that sink in.
Don't get it? Ametures are making a few hundred dollars at best that's if they're even getting paid, so what's the point of doing it. I thought about it so hard because this bothered me far more than any PPV boxing event that had a controversial ending. It really pissed me off that kid earned it and the damn judges took it from him.
So I kept asking myself why has it reached the purest form of boxing, to a level where it's not about money you do it because you love it. The only thing that I came up with is that boxing is suffering from the Trickle-Down Effect, (look it up) it's just the norm now.
It's very sad to say but we all know this to be a problem but we still shell out the dough to see someone's face smashed but the guy that gets his faced smashed wins. I guess we reap what we sow. We (the boxing fans) did it.
Gentlemen,
it's been a pleasure.
Amateur pay outs?
The pay out is Per Diem (basically meals) for each boxer collected by the trainer and distributed by him. Amateurs fight for experience not money!
Amateur decisions are often times political on regional & national level along with international competitions. Years ago there was an Hawaiian sponsor for the islands regional team who would walk away with a decision or two at the Nationals. He was a large financial dona-tor to the national facility and organization so he got a few "benny's" here and there. We all new it. Rules are often times broken to benefit a local favorite.
My son fought in a regional in upstate New York and was forced into fighting 3 times in two day (twice in one day) which is a clear violation of the rules. His third fight decision went against us because of the opposition and his popularity. I protested before the bout stating the rule violation and was told the opposition would then win by default/ walk over! That"s the politics that happen in ALL sports! The opposition went on to win the national and later a pro title at lightweight. Good fighter but lots of little favors as he grew!

Good.. Cause you don't know sh*t about boxing. If you've never seen an amateur get robbed you don't watch much boxing. Especially in the amateurs where they don't get paid not even the few hundred you suggested. When I was kid boxing you'd get robbed mostly because the parents of the boxers from rival gyms were the officials. You didn't cry about it though because you knew you won and you got experience. Now stfu you just started watching boxing ass motha****a looking for attention.
Teddy got fired by ESPN and if not for that he would still be calling fights and annoying the hell out of viewers. Some guys like him. To each his own.
some guys like heroin also
I hope he is done. He hurt my enjoyment of the fights he called by talking his strange way every second not stop every round. It's impossible for him to stop talking for even a second while the fight is going on. He is a motormouth and what he says makes no sense. He is always trashing the boxers in the ring saying how they are doing everything wrong. I don't really need any announcers as I can see what is going on in the ring myself. Of all the announcers in boxing I found Atlas to be the most annoying.
he is a motor mouth in love with himself. I shut the volume off when he calls a fight
I'm not sure what you're implying, I haven't lived out that dream yet I was blessed with a daughter.
Congratulations . But you Obviously know what I'm implying by the reply you sent me .
I find it hilarious that most of the first page thought TS was actually Teddy Atlas.
I read his post which was definitely not Teddy.
However after seeing the replies, I thought is this actually him because I believe a few people in boxing do articles here.
Then I thought wait the post was definitely not Teddy and nor were the replies.

He said AMATEUR boxing, not pro boxing.
And I argue he's still full of it, because for example, Floyd was robbed in the amateurs/Olympics against Todorov and everyone knew it, including Atlas.
Tons of amateur fighters have experienced less-than-ideal outcomes and Atlas was there the whole time.
Reality is this. It's on a fighter not to leave it to judges if they're not 100% sure they'll get the nod. Questionable decisions by judges AND refs AND commissions have spanned decades in boxing, it's not new, it's not any more frequent. But the internet puts it in your face more, giving the illusion that it's happening more frequently.
I'm sure it's happened before. The past few years I've only been keeping up with big names and with all this going on for the big middle weight fight later this year I thought maybe watching 2 young hot heads going at it would give me that excitement again. I'm not sure if I'm just not as naive as I once was or if they put no effort into hiding the robbery anymore.
By far what did it was noticing how the boxers dad (I think) was doing his best telling the young boxer he was great in there how those judges don't know crap ect. That kids dreams were crushed you could see it. That sucked.
Or maybe I'm just old and developed a soft spot take your pick.
Yet we sit here debating about corruption in boxing and how long it's really been around instead of talking about the sport itself.

First of all no amateurs make a couple hundred dollars, maybe like 30-50 bucks at the most.
Also, Am's been fixed for decades dude. This isn't new by any means. Not sure why you're just seeing this now.
I see your point of view because I've been there I've been in the ring and I have sacrificed my body for this sport as well as emotionally investing myself in a fighter so I know the roller-coaster all too well.
This sport saves young men's life's or at least it used to all the non cool unpopular kids that were picked on in school would be at the gym were everyone is treated equally the place were you felt like you mattered. Ironically you now have to be popular to win.
So much has changed I don't see it the same anymore I loved the sport for what it did for me but I know it's lost that fundamental impact. I used to hurry to the gym everyday after class so I could use some of the loner equipment before they were all taken up. I go to the same gym now and everyone has the latest equipment top of the line equipment like it'll make em better cause it cost more.
I guess it's just a big issue to me, but I know a few will understand where I'm coming from.
In many ways with the internet and people not being as poor that they couldn't afford some form of luxury, things have changed. However I am sure we can adapt to that too.
There are plenty of poor gyms around I bet. My Muay Thai gym has stinky shin pads for example that people share and there's this comradely still.
Perhaps you can become a boxing trainer for the kids or something? When we reach a certain age, it's not time to participate as someone who joins in, but it's time to use our knowledge and experience to participate as someone who can share.
Staagnation is a part of life while the World moves forward. We need to either move with it, or share our slightly older knowledge which is lost.
As much as I agree that boxing needs a new system to ensure bad decisions are out and that consistency is upheld, I don't really see any other sport that I quite enjoy as much when I am in particular, emotionally invested in a fighter since I am a fan.
Boxing is such a good sport from the bottom level up. You can make really good friends with some nice to some really crazy ass mofo's. You can be part of a pretty niche sport and just enjoy it for the ups rather than dwell on the downs.
We lived to fight another day. No matter the wounds and scars, our fight is to continue.

Yeah bro . It's tough when your 11 year old son loses his first fight. But get over it man. Catch that rematch at the next show .

I hope you don't believe I'm Teddy, just a 30yr old Hispanic dude that loves this sport even when it's unhealthy to do so. I just wanted a good tittle so I used that quote.
No I didn't think you were Teddy. It was a good title and a good post on your part..
