If that's correct, the reason must be because of politics. Russian forces have occupied Crimea, which Ukrainians believe is part of their country. But Golovkin is not a Russian to begin with though. He is a Kazakh! So why should it matter?

The notion that Golovkin fans are only interested in the fighters listed is kind of ridiculous. True fans support any boxer regardless of race or color. Golovkin is still undefeated and has the highest knockout percentage in MW history. Its unlikely he will lose to Canelo unless of course the venue and judges have something to say about it.
