It’s boxing not baseball so I don’t see the benefit of lying about your age. You still have to fight. And he’s been around amateurs for years. If he was really old the odds makers would pick up on that IMO. Handicappers definitely look differently at a 40+ year old fighter and for good reason! Ortiz had Wilder where he wanted him but took his foot off the gas which came back to bit him in the áss. That's possibly a sign of age. Anyway's, the odds makers only start the lines and the units being wagered change it from there. So essentially, odds makers make odds and public perception (units being wagered) alters those lines.

OK someone please explain to me why some people can't be a fan of a boxer unless they possess absolutely textbook boxing skills. Yeah Wilder isn't going to write a book on boxing fundamentals but he has a killer punch and charisma. Reading the comments by some I get the impression they are more snob than boxing fans.

We all have to be honest here and say, that was a horrible performance by wilder. He was absolutely clueless in that fight and easily got outboxed by ortiz. He deserves credit for the heart that he showed and the way he came back, but if it wasn't for his straight right hand he would be a gatekeeper type fighter. How the judges had wilder ahead on the cards terrifies me. Agreed One has to wonder are wilder fans confused nba fans who have no idea what boxing is, the guy got outboxed and nearly stopped in 8 rounds before the 50 year old gassed so wilder won because of that

Aj textbook style should counter wilder who has bad balance, combinations, and is easy to read. His trainer should show him different looks like his jab is just one thing over and over... He has a chin though and aj only has 20 pro fights so is kind of a novice himself

Maybe because a fight with the vastly superior and more proven Wlad became available for vastly more money?That is bullcrap! Once Wlad retired in August of 2017, the WBA sent two letters; One to Joshua and the other to Ortiz to make the fight happen in 30 days or face a purse bid. When Team Joshua refused Ortiz, then threatened legal action against them and the WBA but then once Deontay Wilder stepped up to the plate and had agreed to offer King Kong an opportunity to challenge him for his WBC tile, then Team Ortiz dropped their threat of taking legal action against both the WBA, Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua.
