God damn that gif of Jessica Lucas looks exactly like a girl I was fortunate enough to know a couple of years ago. Hell they could be identical twins they even have the same tits.
:frown:
thailand would dominate boxing in the lighter weights if they didn't focus all their attention on muaythai. Boxing isn't even big in thailand yet they produce a respectable amount of champions. South east asians make great fighters only thing keeping them back is proper training and size to compete in higher weight classes.
Thailand, burma, laos, cambodia, phillipines. that region has alot of untapped potential.
As someone whos stayed in both England and the Philippines/Manila there are a lot more boxing gyms in Phil but the passion isnt there, its for casuals not fighters. And frankly the trainers dont care if u can box or not, u do ur pad routine and ur done.
England you have good amateur programs with good trained coaches, in Manila there are boxing gyms at every street corner but very few competitive boxing gyms
Seems like they get noticed on the international stage late--should promoters focus more there?
There's a reason why they are late to be noticed. These guys need time to develop their skills and gain experiences to be at world level. If they are legit contenders, no matter how late they are to be noticed, they will get there eventually.
It's trainers they need rather than promoters I would say. I could be wrong but I think the only SE Asian country in the all-time top 20 on the Olympics Boxing medal table is South Korea.
You don't need a strong amateur program if the pro game is already strong in the country/region (eg. Mexico). But if there's another route for combat athletes to go down, like in Thailand or Brazil, it's going to be very hard to build a really strong boxing eco-system. You have to create some heroes, build audiences, and develop those centres of excellence like the inner-city gyms in the US.
Promoters are leeches first and foremost and they invest next to nothing in the development of the sport they profit from. Yes, of course you could find gifted 12/13 year old Asian kids who you could bring to a gym in the US/Mexico and turn into amazing fighters. But promoters will never do that. They like to swoop in and sign up the finished product. They won't put anything into producing it.
No it’s a bunch of Maui Thai even sor did that.. and btw he lost that fight on Saturday he got dropped twice and the ref didn’t want to count it, judges also didn’t want to score it fair.
I don't think it's a case of untapped tarent, I think it's more to do with the fact that the tarent might not be there in the higher divisions as it isn't a big part of their culture
Asia has always had sht load of talents but in the lower weight divisions that America doesnt care about.
I think Thailand, Philippines could provide good lightweights and welterweights as well.
It's just that there is a lot of untapped talent.
