I gotta say this dude has become one of my favourite fighters of recent times
He's a joy to watch
He always gives his best
He has had highs and lows
And I have no problem with saying he is one of the best British fighters of recent times
Yeah he may not be an A+ Fighter but not everybody can be
Anyway give it up for George "UglyKid" Groves
The Man Deserves some credit.....

I do agree that mentally he's very tough but I dunno just come up short on boxing fundamentals twice now.
I wonder how much he can pick up at aged 28.
I think it was Bellew that said he can fight but he can't box. He's like Mayorga or somethingI've always viewed fundamentals as things that can always be taught and learned.
He possesses abilities which can't be taught on the other hand, you either have it or you don't.
I do agree he has similarities to Mayorga in that sense, and at 28 he's definitely not where he should be for the level he's fighting at in terms of boxing ability. He's not one dimensional but he lacks severely in fundamentals for sure...its a weird combination.
Hopefully he can get a decent trainer to develop these skills, he needs some time away from fighting where he can work on them in a gym. I like Virgil Hunter or Derrick James as trainers for him, I feel they can add a lot to his game.
He's naturally physically gifted.
Has good power, ability to throw beautiful combinations(when he's not being wreckless), stamina, volume, physical strength, he's slick (although nothing special defensively) he has a lot to work with, large variety of different punches in his arsenal, mentally strong/resilient as well.
He needs to learn how to set up his power shots with a jab, how to cut off the ring properly, how to set traps, etc.

George Groves: "I believe George Groves should be appreciated. He is a terrific fighter, he gonna whoop you all. My name is George Groves, and I respect George Groves."

Big Groves fan myself, I went to the Eubank fight and a lot of UK fans have a lot more appreciation for Groves now. I
remember going to Froch 1 and the vast majority of the crowd disliked him.
I’m glad he’s finally getting some much deserved credit.
He's trash, Brahmer would have won this whole tournament had he not pulled out lol, Smith is a joke.
Eubank had zero game plan.
If Eubank learned some actual fundamentals and learned how to get on the inside properly, he would've KO'd Groves. He has the tools he just doesn't have a proper coach or training.

I get it. I get what trash talking is and I get what Groves was trying to do.
What I don't get it how saying to a guy who is completely calm and not crying "Are you going to cry" is in any way funny, witty, or anything other than just flat out strange.
But yeah to each it's own I suppose. Agree to disagree.
Ok dont cry about it Mr Iron
I dont think you get it dude
But you are more than entitled to your opinion and I respectfully agree to disagree

Scuse me mate? are you refering to the governor? :lol1:
You hit the nail on the head... A plus or not, he is hard nosed, fights a full round, has skills and carries himself well. I actually felt sorry for him...Eubank really threw him around. He hung in there and might have had his shoulder jerked around by the kid. He is a good champ and has some polish and skills to show for it.
Yeah somehow I just can't see Ali sitting accross from Joe Fraizer or Sonny Liston and coming out with the great line "Are you going to cry"
His emotions were just normal. He was just sitting there totally normal answering the questions.
Then Groves says "Are you going to cry? He's crying" just randomly out of no where.
It's not funny it's just a weird, childish thing to say. No one really knew how to respond because it was just strange and random more than anything.
trashtalk in pro sports is generally stupid and pointless. They all high five each other later on knowing they won the lottery by promoting the fight to well.
In this regard it's actually better when it makes no sense and just seems like bad WWE writing. If you're gonna be cheesy then double down.

Its mental games
He understands some people can't control their emotions when being spoke down to
Made for a great build up
I liked it
Ali did similar things

Dude, I just can't fathom how that is funny.
A guy who is clearly not crying and asking him if he's going to cry? Literally play ground stuff.

Now that i think about it, the way he bounced back after that huge ko loss he suffered is a rare thing. Not many fighters have been able to make a good comeback after devastating losses. So he definitely deserves big respect.
