While watching the stream, it appeared to me, the Jr was down. Definitely 1 should’ve been called, second looked less like he touched....but damn close!
What do you guys think?
He went to the canvas 3 times, twice from punches early in the fight which the ref did not rule on as has been shown and discussed and once later on as a result from a wild swing slip. That's why I originally said I personally felt it was a shutout with 2 10/8 rounds in the main fight night thread.
With regards to the referee, I do think Junior pissed him off. He was being quite lax with him initially and pulled Groves a few times then the second time Groves bullied him through the ropes the ref called time to berate Groves however Jr didn't see the call and kept going, pushing the ref resulting in him getting chastised instead of Groves and I did feel like after that the ref kinda let Groves away with what he wanted on the inside/at the ropes. I guess it was another level of Juniors inexperience shining through.
Great analogy

If the knee touches the canvas and you're hit by a punch it's a knockdown. But Eubanks got up so fast that it's possible the ref didn't see it and since boxing doesn't believe in instant replay couldn't determine otherwise.
The glove doesnt have to touch the canvas for it to be a kd.
Here are the rules as quoted from Referee rules and guidelines: The Bold Part tells us what we need to know. It does not appear to matter if his glove touched or not, because his knee sure did!
Knockdown
An official knockdown is ruled in boxing when a fighter is punched and:
a) a part of his/her body other than the feet touch the canvas (such as his butt or glove)
b) when a fighter is being held up by the ropes (i.e. the fighter would have fallen had the ropes not been there)
c) when a fighter is hanging on, through or over the ropes and
d) cannot protect himself and, for whatever reason, is lodged on a position where he can't fall
A slip or fall to the canvas by a boxer, resulting in any of the above conditions, is not a knockdown.
Note: The Association of Boxing Commissions Referee Rules and Guidelines state: "Before a bout can resume after a boxer has been knocked down, fallen or slipped to the floor of the ring, the Referee shall wipe his gloves." The referee wipes the gloves on his shirt to remove any dirt or debris that might have gotten on the fighter's gloves from the canvas.

I stand corrected.
The Rules for a knockdown from Association of Boxing Commissions.

if groves did not try to fight like Mayweather he would have knocked Jr down more times maybe KO him. with the blood pouring out of jr's eye groves did not even throw left hooks. he would not really commit to his punches. Jr swinging wildly like a drunk in a bar holding behind groves head landing uppercuts. In 15 years I can see the two eubanks as circus con men selling tickets to see the 500 lb woman with 3 heads
He ate a little left just before his knee touch the canvas but I wouldn’t call it a KD, it was more to do with him off balance. He definitely is blessed with a great chin. Because anyone else would have being knock tha fuck out with the punches that only stunned him.
That's not a KD. His glove didn't touch the canvas.
That is a knockdown in my opinion, he was caught with a sharp hook and he dropped to a knee. The referee was unsighted, so cant really blame him too much.

... of course it was a KD... by definition...
... but Jr "recovered" instantly...
Just one of those tough calls.
exactly. Could have gone either way, like the ref calling pacquiao knocked down against Cotto (I think it was the Cotto fight...)

Yeah, the early one definitely looked like a KD but I can see how the ref would let it go. One of those that are hard to see and be definitive about it, but I think it was a KD.
yeah, I wouldn't have wanted to be the Ref there, damned if you do, damned if you don't. split second ruling there.
