So which stylistical boxing triangles can you think of?
Ones that happened and theoretical ones?
As for ones which happened... Hopkins' defensive style and speed-decreasing old age made Dawson's speed and reach too difficult too handle. On the other hand, Pascal's aggressive pressure style took the adventage of Dawson's speed and reach away - Pascal applied too much pressure for Dawson to handle, which Hopkins was unable to do. Hopkins beat Pascal, though, as Hopkins has the defensive skills to handle Pascal's aggressive but simple pressure style.
As for theoretical ones... I except Mike Tyson to beat prime Muhammad Ali, as Tyson is basically a better Frazier in every way and Frazier caused Ali all kinds of trouble. Tyson would lose to Foreman, though. His style is perfect for Foreman and he would get knocked out like Frazier was, but after having put up a better fight. A prime Ali would be too smart and fast for Foreman, even without the heat and rope-a-dope technique that playedinto old Ali's victory, and he would win by clear decision.
Aren't you the one who used to have that crazy triangle theory posted in your signature? I can't remember exactly what it said, but it mentioned how some current decent fighter was the GOAT because his wins traced back to someone who beat Ali?
Nah I think that was Bojangles.
Yeah one of the top defensive fighters I've ever seen. His main problem apparently was he didn't really believe in training. Not a good belief system for a fighter. LOL
yeah I heard that he barely trained for the Leonard fight.
Some guys are like that though, they are such gifted and natural athletes that they get by entirely on that. Ron Simmons (former football player and pro wrestler) used to just be able to walk into the gym, bench press 400+ for reps and leave. Apparently he only worked out like once a month if that.
Collins, Benn, Eubank. The U.K. excels at super-middle for some reason. Incredible series of clashes, though Benn was sadly on the decline by the time Collins stopped him. Collins was unbeaten in the four fights, but the decision when he ‘beat’ Eubank the first time was absolutely disgusting home cooking. Poor decision in Benn-Eubank II as well (a draw when Benn won reasonably comfortably).
I don't think I've seen someone dodge punches like Benitez did. His defense was pure art.

Honestly, I think Ali whoops Tyson. Yes its probably the most famous fantasy match up of all time and YES casuals get dragged into it but as a boxing fan, what can Tyson do? He is shorter, slowe and has maybe a 5 or 6 round tank. ALi taller, longer reach, much quicker, better skills, better heart, better stamina and better chin.
Tyson would be damn competitive for about 3 rounds but a prime Ali would overwhelm him, it would lookl ike the last few rounds of Ali/Liston.
Anyway, back to the topic. Barrera, mOrales and Pac had a great series of fights.
Pac simply overwhelmed Barrera with speed and power and beat him up down the stretch. Yet Barrera almost always had the answer to Morales awkward height and grazing punches because MOrales rarely overwhelmed anyone. Yet that range and awkwardness proved too much for Pac in the first fight and although it was close, MOrales edged it.
Yep, the four kings era will always be the best era in boxing IMO, the best fighting the best from 135-160. No ducking, no catchweight BS. (apart from SRL-Lallonde) just the best fighter’s wanting to prove they’re the best via fighting the best.
I should’ve included Benitez. He’s kind of the forgotten man of that elite era, he’s more famous for losing to SRL and Hearns more than he is for beating elite fighters like Duran. Also the fact that he beat Cervantes to win the WBA 140lb title at 17 years old is an incredible achievement. He should be appreciated more. He’s a top 3 Puerto Rican fighters of all time IMO.
Absolutely. Benitez got lost in that era. Great fighter..
It was pretty long and it started with Berto. Berto beat this guy, who beat that guy who beat that guy..................................................... who beat Trevor Berbick who beat Ali. Berto = the GOAT! Obviously it was a joke but it was pretty funny.
lmao that's hilarious. Reminds me of this other tree I've seen. I don't know if you follow hockey at all, but there was an incredibly lopsided trade that happened back in 1992, and there is a tree that shows the effects of that trade and there are still guys in the league now that branched off that deal. Also hilarious, but even better because it's true

well...Mike Tyson did beat Berbick AND Holmes haha
Not really a triangle like you described, but still interesting.
Liston Knocks out Patterson twice in the first round
Ali knocks out Liston in the first round
Ali goes the distance with Patterson
Tyson and Frazier were nothing alike other than being short and powerful.
Frazier led with his head and left himself unprotected, while Tyson utilized the Peak-a-boo style which kept his chin guarded.
Mayweather's length and counter punching style was too much for Marquez (who also likes to counter), but Pac's aggressive and offensive style matched up perfectly with JMM and made for 3 close fights and the eventual KO.
The very first one I thought of Duran, Hagler Leonard.
There a quadrangle also. Hearns, Leonard, Duran and Benitez. In the past good fighters actually fought each other. LOL...

Leonard, Duran, Hagler
Leonard, Hagler, Hearns
Leonard, Duran, Hearns
Duran, Hagler, Hearns are all interesting triangles.
Ali, Foreman, Frazier is another one

Tyson and Frazier are nothing alike other than the fact they are aggressive.
Fraizer is a great inside fighter, Tyson isn't.
Frazier is a 15 round fighter with a massive engine, Tyson is fast and explosive and fades.
