I know some boxers get paid really shitty but has anyone ever been offered this little?
Yup he got like 60k for his fight on the horn pacquiao card which is a little bit compared to what most champions get but he's small and not very well known
Ancajas is now almost in 6-figure territory. He got $95,000 in his latest fight against that Mexican boy Gonzalez.
Go ask Pride & Affliction how paying guys "what they are worth" (allegedly) worked out for them.
No one is getting rich or poor off of giving this cat a $250/$250 deal. But they got a budget & while this could be a pay drop from a previous fight & that might make me feel weird myself if I was in his position he might look at it like getting put into a situation where the ceiling is higher & this is an amazing opportunity for him long term vs this "Pay Me Now" bs.
When you are 1-1 in low level MMA leagues in a 4 year career you gotta take what you can get & this was a great opportunity to be a part of the 2nd biggest MMA league. Some guys are making more money in Bellator then they were making in the UFC. This is a cat who just doesn't want it bad enough to pay some dues like so many cats before him were willing to do.
When I say "pay what they're worth" I'm more or less siding with you but to be only guaranteed 250$ is terrible you're pretty much losing money. On top of that he has to sell a certain amount of tickets to fight
Jerwin Ancajas got 3k when he won IBF junior bantamweight world title....

Man I’m pretty sure the African arum got to fight Gilberto Remeriz last week got around the same amount.
yeah but $250 dollars in Africa be like

I would agree but it wasn't televised and he actually had to sell a certain amount of tickets to be on that card
Opportunity is still opportunity; again, this is knowing absolutely nothing about the fighter in question. If he fights well, a second and better opportunity likely comes with it
Man why don't Bellator and UFC just push to legalise slavery already? It would make them even more money and be much easier to make fights happen, and if they rat you out to the media you can just take them out back and put them down.
Someone call Dana White, if he can make this happen Bob Arum might start talking to him again!
Yup, I'm all for "capitalism" or being paid what you're worth but this is beyond low and also it hurts the development of the sport. So these big promotional companies need to consider that they're investing in the future
$250 is a **** offer to fight anyone, but it should be acknowledged that the offer (if it's actually true) was likely made to some no-name fighter likely being called as a late sub, and that Bellator gives him a set of trunks, a shirt, and a hat, all filled with space for said fighter to throw personal ads on; no idea where the guy was allegedly from, but is the argument that he couldn't find any businesses in his community that'd like to use the TV time to get their business noticed?
$250 turns to $1000+ pretty quick, if you understand what it is.

There's dudes from my gym fight for more than that on local promotions, man, but you woulda thought signing with Bellator would up the pay grade a little. I mean, yeah, yuo could argue that it gets you exposure but honestly, fuck that... dude's right to turn it down IMO.
Exactly an acquaintance of mine got offered $8,000 to fight prospect Mario barrios on an undercard. Imo that's really good. The bad thing about mma is it's not guaranteed they always have those bonuses to win or win by ko etc

Yeah... it's difficult for me to get perspective cos I'm an old git and I don't feel quite so indestructable any more, but probably if I was 25 instead of 45 I'd jump at the offer. I'll put the question to some of the guys who actually fight but thinking about it now I'm pretty sure they'd take the opportunity in a heartbeat.
