FOX just got the full Thursday Night Football package from CBS/NBC. Beyond that, they have the $200m a year standing offer to extend the UFC. With rumors of FOX/FS1 making a play for the WWE's content package from NBC (leaving NBC needing content), and the AT&T/TimeWarner merger turning Turner Sports into another broadcaster looking for content.
A wilder game of musical chairs than anyone would expect, to be sure.
Disney isn't buying FS1 or FS2. FOX is confident they will retain UFC as TNT/HBO/TRU is getting cold feet.
We shall see.
OH OK Read a old article from back in December Wrong, you're right I thought they said they would be GETTING Fox Sports but instead it would only only be Fox Sports West
The sports networks include the YES Network in New York, Prime Ticket and Fox Sports West in Los Angeles, and networks that carry 44 professional teams in Major League Baseball, the NBA and the NHL.
As part of the deal, 21st Century Fox retained the Fox television network and stations, Fox News Channel, Fox Business Channel, FS1, FS2 and the Big Ten Network. They will be part of a newly listed company after the close of the deal
Interesting to see how things play out. I hope Fox/FS1 Invest more into boxing. It is a lot of Boxers and it is no way 1 Network can show all these fighters so the more Networks Showing Boxing the BETTER it is for the SPORT
UFC should buy PBC and take over boxing. This is a great sport suffering from structure and proper promotion. #MakeBoxingExcitingAgain #GiveItToTheWhite
The only thing that's changed is the acronym is PBC now instead of GBP. All the fighters are the same except Canelo and Hopkins left for HBO.
Canelo and Hopkins were eating up a lot of the budget. And the budget in 2014 wasnt anywhere near what it is in 2018.
So Haymon has more control of a budget, and that budget is now much larger. Big difference.
Buddy when GBP was putting fights on SHO it was through Haymon's lackey, Dickie Schaefer. GBP of today is not the GBP of 2014.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. had each of his fights promoted by GBP from 2007-2014. Haymon had GBP by the balls back then. You can spin, spin, spin, but you ain't getting anywhere.
There is a big difference between controlling most of GBP, and therefore most of SHO, and cutting out GBP and controlling all of SHO except for AJ.
Look at the SHO 2014 schedule, look at the SHO 2018 schedule, and tell me honestly that Haymon's control of SHO hasn't increased. You can't.
Lies.
Showtime did 16 fights in 2014. Haymon controlled at least 1 main event fighter in each of those 16 fights.
Haymon was also the de-facto ruler of GBP while Schaefer was at the company.
GBP had plenty of non-Haymon fighters on SHO.
Haymon control of SHO from 2014 vs 2018 has clearly increased. It's a virtual monopoly now.
So much for that goal of putting boxing on broadcast TV, huh? CBS, NBC, FOX. Whatever happened to that?
They bought time on NBC to prove that boxing on network TV could generate millions of viewers. It did generate millions of viewers. NBC was uninterested in paying for shows, so they shifted their focus to FOX and CBS. Until the UFC TV deal is finalized, FOX isn't going to make a big commitment to boxing.
They way I remember it, Haymon fighters fought on Showtime well before PBC's creation. So essentially you are fellating Al Haymon for giving the stable of boxers he manages a promotional name of "Premier Boxing Champions".
It was easier for non-Haymon fighters to get on Showtime before PBC and Showtime wasn't paying nearly as much money for boxing back then either. Showtime has had to substantially increase their budget, and substantially increase the control they've given to Haymon, in order to remain the primary outlet for his top fighters.
Well I think Fox on the verge of being sold to Disney not only effects PBC but UFC on Fox as well which could explain why Peter Nelson was at a UFC Event because UFC is also looking for a new Network Deal

Just have to wait and see I guess but Showtime clearly happy with their boxing programming and is dedicated to it :dunno:
Showtime boxing is alive and well. PBC on the other hand...
All of those fights are PBC fights.
The only non-SHOBOX fight coming up for Showtime that isn't PBC is the AJ fight.
al haymons lawyer did say that his plan was to create a more competitive environment for boxing. I mean since PBC began in 2015 boxing has in someways boomed top rank got a deal with espn, eddie hearns come to the usa, golden boy is on espn 2, Roc nation was on BET for awhile, Now Zuffa is getting into boxing.
RN boxing is basically dead at this point.
GB gives ESPN2 the shows for free.
TR is being paid very little by ESPN.
Matchroom USA has been a dud so far.
The only real budget in US boxing is Showtime's and Haymon has a firmer grip on it than ever.

PBC is as good as dead, someone just needs to put it out of it's misery.
Upcoming PBC schedule:
ORTIZ vs ALEXANDER
GARCIA vs RIOS
BENAVIDEZ vs GAVRIL
WILDER vs ORTIZ
CHARLO vs CENTENO
GARCIA vs LIPINETS
BARTHELEMY vs RELIKH
LARA vs HURD
BRONER vs FIGUEROA
STEVENSON vs JACK
SANTA CRUZ vs MARES II
With Thurman, Spence and more to still be confirmed.
Seems far from dead, no?
Right there is what's wrong with boxing today, NBC, Fox, offers, Turner Sports, mergers, just a mish mash of gobbledy**** statements which amount to nothing but ****ty and sporadic ****ty fights.
Showtime is doing their part in delivering fights, with their full schedule already rolled out.
With the UFC deal ending in December (and WWE's own deal ending in December), so you'd imagine what ever broadcaster ends up with the deal would want to have something announced before we get near the summer (FOX just got TNF, and that was announced an easy 8 months before the chance of the first game).
Things just need to settle out.
